It was Christmas season and the city wore a festive look. The sight of little children celebrating with Santa Claus in malls and other places increased Geet's longing for another little one. Their daughter, Muskan too had been asking her in her childish gibberish why there were no babies in their home like in her friends' homes. When she asked her whether she too wanted a baby, she nodded her little head vigorously. Muskan was a little over two-and-a half years old and Geet felt it was time that they gave her a baby sister or brother to play with.
She had been sounding Maan on this matter but the guy was adamant in not wanting to expand their family further. He said that he cannot bear to see her in the tremendous mental and physical pain she went through to bring Muskan into this world. No matter how much she tried to reason with him, he just wouldn't listen. He took the responsibility of limiting his family size on himself as he was paranoid over the side effects of contraceptives for women on Geet's body. Although Geet knew that Maan was doing all this because he loved her very much, she wanted to give Muskan a sibling. She also wanted to present Maan a baby which was also biologically his, even if he always considered Muskan as his own.
Geet finally decided to resort to deceit to fulfill Muskan's wishes. She felt bad about tricking her husband but she felt helpless in the face of Maan's stubbornness. She hoped that he will forgive her after he learns the truth. To make her plan work she had to get Maan sufficiently excited. Although this was not a very difficult task, she decided to go all out to ensure it.
She had read in an article that garlic is a potent aphrodisiac since it improves blood circulation and has an enzyme called nitric oxide synthase (NOS) which stimulates men. Although there are many among the contemporary medical researchers who may dispute the validity of this theory, Geet felt that there was no harm testing it.
That night for dinner she had added garlic in all items she prepared. Apart from that she had made garlic chutney and a garlic mushroom dish. She even bought a bottle of garlic pickle. She put her daughter to sleep early and as soon as Maan freshened up after returning from work, she served him his dinner. Maan relished all the food and liberally praised Geet. After dinner Maan went into his study saying he has some unfinished work. He asked her not to wait up for him, for he may be late. Geet's face fell hearing this, but she went up to their room hopeful that he will join her soon. She quickly had a shower and changed into a tastefully sexy nighty which was not too revealing but was sufficiently enticing. She then sat in front of the dressing table, brushing her long hair.
Soon she heard Maan's footsteps on the stairs and smiled to herself. Her garlic therapy seems to be working she thought. She continued brushing her hair as he entered the room. Although she did not turn around, she could feel Maan's smouldering gaze on her. Maan was behind her in a jiffy and she could see the reflection of his piercing intense eyes in the mirror. Holding her by the shoulders he lifted her from the stool and turned her around to face him. He took the hairbrush from her hand and threw it aside. Snaking his arm around her waist, he dragged her to him and captured her lips in a searing kiss. His lips then slid down the side of her neck and below. Just as things started heating up, he gently seated her on the bed and asking her to wait so that he can take the necessary precaution, he rushed into the bathroom. After a few minutes, he returned to the bedroom, looking confused.
"I could have sworn there was a whole packet in the cabinet," he muttered more to himself than to Geet.
Geet feigned ignorance, and asked innocently, "What packet, Maan?"
"The packet of Kohinoor."
"Who would want to steal that?" She asked with her hand on her chin.
"That's what even I am wondering. It's really strange. I can understand if it is the real Kohinoor diamond, but this? Who will be interested in it?"
"Maybe whoever stole it is a responsible citizen."
"What?" he asked sharply.
"Well, maybe the thief wanted to restrict begetting more thieves like him," she said with a straight face.
Maan looked at her incredulously.
"Come on, Maan. Who will steal that packet of all the things? You must have misplaced it somewhere. Forget it now. Why waste time in pondering over such innocuous things when your wife is in desperate need of you," she said and not wanting him to dwell on the matter further, she pulled him to her and gently bit his lip.
Maan forgot the packet for a moment as he caught her face between his hands and fervently kissed her back. His desire which had waned a little in the confusion over the missing packet was rekindled. He pushed her back on the bed and rolled over her, but just before their union he stopped himself. She knew that he was hesitant to take the risk without the protection.
Understanding his confusion, Geet whispered in his ears that it was OK as she was safe. Maan did not look fully convinced by her assurance but looking into her desire filled eyes, his own yearning for her seemed to peak and sighing deeply, he let go of his apprehensions and gave in to his need, sinking deep into her. She enveloped him tightly in her arms as they spurred each other to dizzying heights before tumbling over together in bliss.
As they lay in each other's arms trying to catch their breath, Geet felt guilty for having lied to him, and decided to come clean then and there.
"Maan," she said hesitantly.
"Mmmmm," he responded huskily with his eyes still closed.
"I have a confession to make," she said in a small voice.
He opened his eyes and looked down at her in puzzlement.
"I am not safe. In fact it is the peak of my cycle."
He cursed himself for his lack of self-control.
"No, Maan, don't. I was the one who lured you. I prepared the spicy garlic diet to kindle your libido and hid your Kohinoor packet."
"You did what?" he asked in anger, as he caught her shoulders and shook her.
Geet held back her tears and with as steady a voice as she could muster, she said, "I'm sorry I lied and tricked you into sleeping with me but I do want to give Muskan a sibling, Maan. I am sure you do too. It's only that you are so concerned over my well-being that you are unwilling to admit it. Don't worry about me. It will not be as painful this time. Even it is, I am quite willing and capable of bearing it."
She tried to pacify him but Maan grumpily turned his back to her, refusing to speak. She tried to turn him around but he shrugged her hand off. She wondered whether she had pushed things too far. She turned to her side and whimpered softly, trying hard to keep the sound of her sobs down, for she did not want him to know she was crying. After a few minutes she felt his hand on her shoulder and he turned her over to face him. He wiped her tears and dragged her into his arms, hugging her tight.
"Please don't cry, baby. It breaks my heart to see you in tears. I'm sorry for over-reacting. You are right. I too want Muskan to have a sibling. But after witnessing what you went through to bring her into this world, I could not bring myself to put you through the torture of child bearing again."
"Maan, the second delivery is supposed to be easier than the first. I am sure I'll have no problems with this one," she tried to reassure him.
"If you crave for another baby so much, I'll support you all the way."
He then kissed her eyelids and her cheeks, before catching her lips in a tender kiss. Soon the kiss turned more passionate. This time he gave himself to her more willingly, wanting the same thing that she did.
Nearly nine months later, a bonny son, who was a splitting image of his father, with the perfect M shaped lips just like him, made an entry into this world. He brought great joy not only to his parents but also to his sister who had been eagerly looking forward to his arrival. As Geet had promised Maan, this time the delivery was relatively smooth and hassle free.
