I have very very long back made 2 posts regarding the same topic with much more detailed analysis on maans behaviour n its reasons.. The comments ppl r giving here have been addressed in detail.. I had updated this post from time to time depending on the new entrants.. I have included the updations too...
Plz read them n let me know wat u think...I spent a whole lot of time on these..
Maan Aur uske Rishton Ka Saach
The Dialogue that Dadi Said
"Aaj Pehli Baar Aapke Dil ki Ek Jhalak Dekha Hai
Hum Aapke Dil Ko Phir Se Haarne Nahi Denge?.."
Has set many ppl taking that Maan might have had a romantic relation in the past...
No yaar, i beg to differ. Pls read the first line...
Dil has always been associated with a lover whereas love is associated with anything ranging from parents to bro-sis to friends to lifeless objects...
Had Maan been in love b4, it wouldn't have taken him so long to comprehend his feelings for geet...
He as of now looks like he has no idea wat hit him, y else does he keep repeating that he has gone mad?
Maans past has everything to do with his parents..
1) Have u noticed that there r absolutely no pics of Maan's parents anywhere in the mansion...
Not even the one containing chandan ki maala considering they r dead.. Isn't their absence conspicious??? Any normal house will have pic of the dead unless of course.....
2} Dev's mum calls him Chote Sahab. It means she must have been his Nanny whom senior khurana latter married either cause of Maan's upbringing or cause he had an affair with her..
3} Maan's perceptions bout womens r that they r weak, uncapable of logical thinking cause they r always crying...
Women just silently suffer at the hands of their family members, they don raise their voice against injustice done to them.
Thats y he asks geet to stop crying, stand for herself, work out ways to get out of the prob she is in n fight against the injustuce done to her...
I think Maans mum was in an abusive relationship with his father.. He must have physically n mentally tortured her n she must have silently endured all that cause she really loved her husban.. He must have cheated on her..finally she must have commited suicide... His exp with his mum taught him that love only gives pain.. He tells geet he hates emotional talks cause he must have heard his mums..So he made himself so strong that no emotion should ever bother him...Maan must have witnessed all this n was deeply hurt that he was unable to do anything for his mum..His father might have ill-treated him too......His mums death was the final blow....
His mother was his only hope when she was alive, after her death he felt betraied by the only 1 who loved him n whom he loved too..
Check out Maans expr when geet told him that he cannot love anybody n nobody has ever loved him.. She touched a nerve there..
Maan has always helped geet only bcoz i feel she partly reminds him of his mother. The only difference being that she is fighting for herself... This promts him to help her... Many have already told that Maan feels it his right n duty to protect geet. When he saved her from Brij there was no romantic angle of him for geet but even then he saves her with all his might n makes it very clear that till he is alive no one will be able to touch her...This may be cause he feels that he was unable to do anything for him mum, atleast he can help geet out... He was doing all this subcounciously ofcorse untill he fell in love with her...
Regarding Naintara being Maan's past, i highly doubt it... Her rishta might have come for Maan but he must have flatly refused so she eyed dev n married him..Regarding his hatered for her i feel he knows wat she really is n must have opposed the wedding...
He must be blaming Naintara for his bro's misdeeds (it was her who came out with the idea of Dev's fake marriage to clear off their debts.). When Maan punished Dev for his mistakes n thrown him out of the house, she must have blamed him of doing so to Hog the entire property n rule the house... So he left the mansion n is living in the outhouse n he is so adament not to return to the mansion at any cost..
Regarding Naintaara's intrest in Maans marriage might be that since he rejected her he cannot absolutely cannot fall or marry any1 else.. We alreary know that she thinks very highly of her self...
I have written this post very much b4 sameera came into pic, when ppl were linking NT-maan.
At that time the weak mum logic seemed right to me.
After darling sameera came into pic even am a bit confused...

Some how sameera as his GF does not fit into the story n characterization, even now..
In the whole of HP seq, maan kept telling geet that women r weak, always scared n bullied into doing wat others say.. they lack strength of character, they r bewakoof, stupid etc..
Now maan in delhi accuses girls to be scheming, manupulative, greedy, etc etc ..
If a girl is a bewakoof how the hell is she scheming??? If she is bullied by others then how is she manupulative????
My god he is still confused with his feelings for geet, so he's in love for the first time..Then he never loved sameera...in that case y in the world is he so ruined till date that he does not allow anyone else close to this heart??? Y is he so scared n determined not to let any1 in??? Y is he hurting himself a 100 times more in his bid to hurt geet so that he leaves him...
Either the CV's have changed Maan's past track or else we r mistaking sameera's connection with Maan.
I feel sameera is not Maans past (romantic).. May be a GF or Mistress of his father who ruined him. Or else it has something to do with vicky, the younger bro who is still on the run.
Am even now praying no direct connection b/w sameera-maan. Want geet to be the first n last girl ever maan's life..

Afer the word that sameera is his GF came out, here is my take on wat had happened n y maan is like this,...
Regarding sameera all i say that maan was never in love with her... I think sami n maan were coll friends or family friends... Either maan for purely commercial reasons decided to marry her or dadi fixed them up..
His charac n behaviour as i have explained abouve were due to his troubled childhood... He was never attached to sameera... Sameera would have aggreed coz he is handsome, rich n successful along with family pressure..
But very soon realized that she is entering an alliance where love will never blossom.. She was entering a loveless marriage n this troubled her a lot... Or else In the mean while she might have meet her lover n fallen for him.. So on the d-day (engagement day) she decided to give it a run...
Dev (NT can also be involved) in the mean while would have stolen some money n put the blame on Sami.. Sami just to break the alliance would latter have admitted of the crime...
All the anjana ehsas n the confusion from maans end only teels that he is in love for the first time.. Wat sami did to him was hurt his EGO.. She ran away or rejected him coz of his behaviour.. But he thinks very highly of himself so it hurt his EGO big time...
Till now he had been nursing a shattered ego n not a broken heart...
A son is usually very close to his mum.. If Maans mum ditched him, it perfectly explains his detachment from relationships n emos... It'll justify his bitterness n views regarding women... A mum's betrayal will give more authenticity to the story

Reading your post and all the comments here, I think there's every reason to believe that Maan had a horrible past regarding his parents that made him belive that women are weaklings. But, still there's one thing that doesn't fall into place with this hypotheses.
It may be only me thinking about that, but I find it wierd.

Maan lives with his grandmother and he respects her. Her dignity is a matter of pride for him and her mere request is an order to him that he follows (accept her wish to come to the house again).
He knows that his grandmother uses many tricks to make him follow her but he never takes it in wrong way.
And I clearly remember that when the story of Geet shifted to Delhi, we saw Maan's Dadi Maa working on laptop, seeing the progress of business and all. At that time Maan asks that she still keeps the record of business progress to which she replied, "Though I have retired from the business and handed all the responsibilities to you but that doesn't mean you can cut me off from it. Afterall this empire has been setup by me, I've given the most valuable years of my life for this company" (Sorry, for messing up with the dialogue). This clearly shows that he knows the potential of his Dadi and her strength.

And if he was disillusioned with women because of his mother, why didn't he believe that women can also have the will power, strength and skills like his own grandmother, who plays a pivotal role in many of his decisions.

Surely he isn't blind that he can't see his Dadi, as an epitome of Strength and not just a weakling, who also happens to be a women.
Is his hate so much stronger than his love for DadiMaa for which he says, "Her existence is everything"?????

Sorry for meddling up my own thoughts. I just wrote whatever thoughts crossed my mind.... And I'm yet undecided about what Maan's Past is related to!!

@JhankaaR000: It has been hinted that Maan was brought up by his grandmother which clearly shows the lack of an actual mother figure hovering around growing Maan as a child and as a teen. Its either that or the woman was figuratively absent as a part of his growing up process.
Irrespective of how many women a man would see - fictional or the ones in real life, the woman who influence him the most as a part of growing up, is his mother.
If Maan had seen his mother being emotionally abused or being distant or fighting with his father - or whatever traumatic for a kid may be, the part of him which draws a general outline of woman would automatically map everyone to his mother's persona.
Going by the argument of Dadi and her personality - why does he respect her so much then? She is his primary caretaker and she has been around since he was around. She is vastly different from the general perception he has about woman and I think it has taken years for him to accept her and realize the importance of her in his life. He has seen her performing the role of a person who drove the empire to what it is today and also be the person who hugged him when he fell of his first bike. She has always been there. Maybe that was what he expected out of a mother. But in the end, she still is not his mom.
Any new woman he sees are catagorized that way which is perhaps a customary reaction on his part after whatever he has gone through in his past.
Also, I think there is influence of another woman on him which has completely altered the dynamics of his interaction with the ladies. Someone who is anti thesis of his mother but without any good intetions at heart. By seeing these two aspects, he catagorizes woman as either emotional fools or gold diggers.
Well, that was my take on your query...

Agree with you Sookie.
Swati you have some interesting observations there.
I wrote this post in July when we still were in the dark about Sameera. Now with Sameera in the picture and clearly indicated as his ex-flame, many of my earlier perceptions have changed.
I also think that with the change in writers (Priya to Vincent), they have altered the original story. I so want Priya to be at the helm. Nothing like a woman writer to portray a sensitive story like Geet. Hope the guy does not treat the issues raised in the show flippantly.
If they had changed the original story, then all this analysis appears a waste because as per the current track Maan detests women because they are manipulative. This is pretty dumb considering all the scenes they gave us earlier show a totally different side of him.
Then again as Sookie says maybe he has categoried women as either helpless and useless (like his mother) or manipulative (like Sameera), the reason he feels he is better off without them. But then there is a lot of conjecture in this theory because we have neither been shown the dead mother nor the elusive Sameera. With no knowledge of their characters, everything is in the realm of speculation.

Very interesting points!

Sometime back, I also wrote about the possibility of Maan's abhorrence of a woman's inability to fight for herself and always crying being a result of some childhood experiences....and not a result of being betrayed by a past love/girlfriend. His feelings are too deep-seated and come from years of having been exposed to...and a witness of this kind of behavior. I even bought up the possibility of his mother being emotionally (maybe even physically) abused by his father. I also wrote about the fact that Pammi cannot be his mother because she calls him 'chotte saab' and that only an employee (in this case...his nanny) would call him that. So here is what I think.
Maan's Mother - Possibly withstood years of emotional abuse by Mann's father, who may have been a Dev type character who ran after all the women and had affairs that Maan's mother was aware of. Maan must have been old enough to witness his father's behavior and his mother's reaction to such humiliation and rejection. This must have been very upsetting and frustrating for a young child to witness. Her inability to fight for herself and his inability to help his mother at the time has made him shut off from emotions that make him feel too much. By doing so...he is protecting himself from being hurt. If Dev and his younger brother are Maan's real siblings, they may have been too young to understand and remember all of this.

Pammi - Was Maan's nanny not his mother. She could be his step-mother since Dev and Kayma call her Mom'but even here...there could be an explanation. They simply call her mom because their own mother (Maan's mother) was not capable of being a mother to them by that time...so they automatically called Pammi "mom" as she was the main care-giver. She could have been sent to Canada with Dev to look after him if he went there for his education. I would be very surprised if she is Maan's step-mother because she still dresses like a nanny and not like a bahu/widow of an aristrocatic (Raj Gharana) family.

Dev - Clearly has lived in Canada for quite a number of years...and possibly with the youngest brother who could still be in Canada and being looked after by Pammi (since she hasn't returned back with Dev and Naintara.) He has clearly got an overseas accent (kudos to Abhinav for getting the accent right or to the production company for picking him to play the role of Dev). Kamya could be Dev's real sister or Pammi's daughter. I saw photos of all three brothers in the Khurana mansion but none of Kamya...so she may not be their real sister.

Naintara - From an aristrocratic family...but clearly married Dev for money and aristrocatic connections. She will do anything for money and her hopes are to replace Maan as the main heir to the family fortunes. Why doesn't Dev get a share of the wealth...I don't know. Could be possible that Dadi knows that Maan is the responsible grandson and has tried to ensure that Dev does not gamble away the family wealth. BTW....did anyone notice that Ms. Rasika Rathod has the same last name as Naintara who was Naintara Rathod before she got married. Wonder if there is a connection!!

Dadi - Possibly the only person who showed Maan any affection when he was a child and a pivotal character in his upbringing. Hence his connection to her is very strong. However, since she was the sole person in charge of the company and the family's fortunes....she would not have been there 24/7 in his formative years. So he had a nanny (Pammi) to look after him. He does love his brothers but clearly sees them both as his duty and responsibility....possibly like a father...because their own father may not have been interested in being a father to them. He is also protective of them.....can be seen from the looks he gives Naintara...which clearly says he is aware of her personality and doesn't trust her at all.

Sameera - At first, I was a little confused about Sameera being a positive character. It could be that she may have been a possible arranged bride for him. I say that because the feelings he has for Geet are clearly something he has never felt before and is confused by them. So he can't have felt the same feelings for Sameera. Somewhere along the way....he thinks (rightfully or mistakenly) that Sameera has betrayed him and was only trying to trap him for his money. Wonder if Naintara had something to do with this. Sorry...but I can only imagine Naintara doing something like this. If she can get her husband married to another girl...this woman is capable of doing anything. She may feel that if Maan got married...and had a child....the possibility of Dev inheriting anything would be diminished.

Phew!!!........All this sound very complicated and none of the above could be true. But it is fun speculating about all the characters in Geet....especially Maan's character. From previous articles his character is supposed to be that of a quiet but very intense guy with a strong character which emulates an 'angry young man' who comes across as arrogant and egotistic but is really quite soft at heart. Such an intense guy...when he hates, he hates intensely and passionately....and when he loves, he loves intensely and passionately. Gurmeet potrays him wonderfully!

i think the reason why Maan respects dadi is because of the persona she holds and the way she carries herself.. their relationship is laced with sarcasm on the top but, immense love and mutual admiration and adoration down under.. Maan is afraid of being vocal about his feelings even for dadi, he hides it with a tough exterior.. dadi gets that perfectly well.. and perhaps that why, though she belongs to an aristocratic family, she still has the maturity and the understanding to see why geet would be perfect for Maan...
which now brings us to Geet, who also holds anj important place in Maan's life as of today.. !In Geet Maan perhaps see's that side of his mother that he doesnt want to see in her ( cos, he is afraid drawn towards her though he doesnt want to, and he dusnt wanna go thro that turmoil once more).. and somewhere see's a little of his grand mother as well, as other than dadi, if there is someone who can answer maan back or challenge him, or for that matter get away with anything, is geet.. thats why, he is torn! he cant decide, if he should keep her close to himself, or if he should shut that door fearing the repetition of what happened in his mom's case...!
either ways i feel, he does respect his dadi, has learnt alot from her, and treats her different from the rest of the women he knows .. and for Maan singh khurana as he proudly calls himself in third person, to give that status is a huge deal...
now meeting someone else, who may not have the stature but, still pulls him towards her, is what is confusing the guy! and thats what makes it interesting to know MSK more.. so many people, so many theories... its been a fun discussion!!

love,
niha

i am pretty sure about the fact that Dev and Kamya are Maan's step siblings.. ill tell you why i think so!
when Dev had made the blunder he had, Maan is the one who was supposed to have thrown him out of the house... now, this is what i feel, may be dadi, accuses maan saying, he is doing this because they are his step siblings.. and may be NT says he is doing all this for money... all of this coupled with anger and jawaani ki josh, maan could have decided he doesnt want the money... nor will he live in the house when his siblings are not around..!!
there is this episode where dadi clearly tells him, she was the one who asked him to leave the house, and now she is asking him to return, he refuses saying, he wont, cos, he knows though time has passed, the issue at hand was too big to have been forgotten...
though Maan did all that an older brother was supposed to do, he was still blamed. The fact that he pays off the debts, not at first but a little later shows he doesnt want his brother to take the wrong path, which also shows he cares, Dev on the other hand is shown to be filled with bitterness, that maan has all the power and the control and he is using that to prove his might....!
so... there.. like u said, there are too many possibilities... its good fun to be discussing it..but with tv shows you never know..
at one time, we would discuss Armaan's past also with the same amount of passion and they ended up making such a crappy mess outta it, it just sucked out all the fun! Armaan was still this young, flamboyant boy! with maan they better do justice with his past!! or i will lose faith in tv soaps and what they wish to portray!

niha
