Next day Naina was on her way to Malaudh. She was wearing her jeans but instead of a t-shirt had a kameez over it. She wrapped herself with a long black dupatta, covering her head. Unless one looked at her eyes, she very well looked like any ordinary Punjabi small town girl. She had taken a jhhola type of carry bag with the most essential items and a couple of dresses. Rest of her things she had dumped in her bag which she left in the waiting room of the bus-station. She had been careful not to leave anything in that bag that could be traced back to her. The gun which she managed to "pick-shoe" from Abhimanyu was firmly held near her waist by the tight jeans. She had checked last night and found it to be fully loaded. The metallic feel of the gun on her skin provided her with some kind of assurance. Moreover it made her feel like a solder again.
Naina had also printed out some local maps from Yudi's laptop. Now she was looking at them. She was trying to find out which road would take her from Malaudh towards the north –east. By the time she would reach MAlaudh, it would be quite dark. She did not want to travel at night. Surely there would be someplace – dhaba beside the bus-stop where she would be able to spend the night away.
She looked at all the village names along the north-east road and wondered which one hosted Rajveer Sir. She looked out of the window and got lost in her thoughts. She was drooling about the time of the mentorship program – how they were engrossed in that clue-finding exercise and never noticed what time it was. Were they really engrossed with the exercise or they just enjoyed each other's company? Naina literally hung on every word uttered by Raj and Raj said everything to invoke admiration and awe in Naina. He loved to stare at her, to watch her without bating his eyelids. Even now Naina started to blush remembering his stare. She remembered their playing around in that dirty muddy pool. It was real fun. If it would again happen now, she would pull Rajveer deep into the mud and would………..
"Bahenji , Bahenji, hum Malaudh pahunch gaye. Aap ko utarna hoga." The Bus conductor was trying to wake her up without touching.
Naina wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, shook her head. Pulled the dupatta around her face and got up from her seat. She picked her bag from overhead rack and got down from the bus. It was eight-o-clock in the evening and quite dark. The night air was fresh but slightly chilly.
Naina looked around the place. The Bus Station was scattered with few people here and there. An old man with his glasses up on his forehead populated the ticket counter. There was a dhaba nearby, well lit and bustling with Punjabi songs and activities as it was dinner time. A number of trucks were parked close to the dhaba, whose drivers were most probably enjoying their meals. Strong aroma of spicy and well-cooked Punjabi food pervaded the air and made Naina feel hungry too.
First things first – she had to fix up her mode of travel to the exact spot "30 miles and 40 degrees north-east. " Naina had already seen in the map that the road to Payal from Malaudh will be in the direction 40-45 degree North-East.
She approached the ticket counter and enquired about any bus to Payall next morning. The old man nodded ,"Kal subah chhai baje ek Bus hain, ticket bana du?"
"Jee," replied Naina.
After buying the ticket Naina got to the Dhaba, sat on a vacant charpai and ordered for Lassi , paratha and some vegetable. She studied carefully all the people around her to assess whether the Dhaba would be the right place to spend the night.
Here, she, a young and beautiful girl was in an unknown place and without any clue about her nightly abode. She did feel a little nervous as few men were already giving her lurid glances and trying to catch her attention with suggestive gestures. Naina just ignored them , but her right hand was firmly grasping the cold metal tucked in her jeans. After rigorous training of KMA and especially getting useful tips from Rajveer Sir, Naina was a very good shooter, probably the best among the new cadets.
The dhaba-lady herself was carrying the food to Naina. She was an experienced lady and could understand her guests very well .. It was her business to understand them. She had read the determination and despair in Naina's face. She was also enchanted by the beauty of it . Naina was gifted with very clear complexion and very beautiful eyes. Draped by her black dupatta her face shone like a diamond under the night sky.
"Tu kahan se aye re?" asked the lady/
"Delhi se." lied Naina
"Tera koi rishtedar hain yahan?"
Naina did not answer and looked down.
"Abhi mere samajh mein aya – tera ashiq zaroor hai aas pas.
Naian at once looked around her to find Rajveer and then blushed deeply.
"Oh so kitne sone kudi ," exclaimed the lady," Chal , aaj raat humare yahan rukh ja , ohir kal ashiq ko dhoondh lena. "
So the night job was done. In exchange of fifty Rupees Naina was given a charpai and a rug. Not before long, Naina was fast asleep with her hand on the gun.
