She took Nivi and dropped her off at Munirka at Akka's in laws house
He stood in the balcony watching her load the baby, Nivi cried and grumbled and sniffled and sneezed
He had changed and tried to feed the baby some oatmeal when she packed her own lunch
She didnt call Sam she knew Sam would immediately agree
She felt like she was using Sam
After last night's revelation to Tan she was being cautious
She replayed her admittance to Tan of how she missed R&B
It wasnt a huge explicit rant, she had casually crafted it to sound like "R&B was too busy to hook up with his wife"
She hadnt intended for it to sound like a physically frustrated wife

She missed it more now because she was sure it wasnt her fault
He had fondled and made out after her Chennai visit and they had blown up like cannon balls over having the second baby
The Chennai visit had caused her to miss him too

"Fine" said II not texting back a picture of Nivi like she would usually... no not this morning

However fragile their health was, their face lit up upon seeing Nivi

II held him and kissed him all over setting him down
Paati was serving brunch (older Iyers eat rice sambar rasam at 11 AM ) to Thatha
Paati mixed rasam rice in a bowl and added beans bhaji for II handed her the bowl
She accepted it with a smile
Thatha looked at her and said "saaptutu po kozhandey" (eat and go) "Avalukku Kamakshi anupichale maa laddoo kudu dee" (give her the laddoos my sis sent) he said with a mouthful of rasam rice
Paati wobbled to teh kitchen in a hurry and dropped the lid of the tall container it clattered to the floor startling Nivi causing a crying fit

II went in and packed some for herself
"Irukeya konja nazhi? akka vara?" (will u stay? Kamakshi athai is coming from NOIDA)
"No paati pohanum" (I have to leave)
"Pohanum sollade, varen sollu) (dont say I have to go, say I will see u soon)
Ii nodded her throat clogged with tears at the simple warmth
"R&B na ketten sollu"(tell ur husband I enquired) Thatha said through squished lips
"Avan Paris poraan thatha" (hes goingt o Paris) II said bitterly
The kids sat on the floor playing with thatha's beetel leaf container trying to open in Nivi forgeting abt II
"Aval payasama?" "good good" (did u bring poha kheer?) Thatha asked joyously
"AYYYO ILLE THATHA" II shook her head realizing Thatha was as deaf as Kamakshi Athai now
Paati smiled, amused... Ii let her self out somberly walking down the steps texting Akka
"thanks ka" she said tears blurring her eyes, biting into a laddoo pati just gave
"Po dee" Akka scolded her for being formal
