Part 4

Arnav grabbed the collar of Shyam's expensive purple satin shirt and pulled him away from Khushi, who immediately rolled away from the bed and straightened herself up.

Arnav's fist connected with his nose which cracked under Arnav's fist shaking with fury. His nose began to bleed but mercy would not replace the infernal anger in Arnav.

"How dare you do this, Shyam? I was bearing your sister's shameless antics till now for my parents but not anymore. I will not spare you for this!" he warned, dragging Shyam along with him outside and throwing him onto the floor from a height of 5 stairs.

The party faded into pregnant silence as everyone stared at the remorseless face of Arnav Singh Raizada and the bloodied face of Shyam. Khushi, who had followed Arnav in an attempt to stop him from doing something he would regret later, had stopped in her path as she found everyone's eyes boring holes into her already conscious body.

"What are you doing, Arnav? Have you gone mad?" asked Sheetal, appearing out of nowhere and holding his biceps. Arnav immediately pushed Sheetal away from him as if her touch burnt him.

"May I have your attention, everyone. This, shameful excuse of a man lying on the ground," he said pointing towards Shyam, " has absolutely no manners or morals. A person who cannot respect another person doesn't deserve any respect, and your brother is no different, Sheetal. He proved to be just like you."

Khushi decided that it was crossing the line. She was aware how important the alliance of Sheetal and Arnav was to Arnav's family and she would not allow his family to lose something so important due to her. She paced down the stairs and reached by Arnav's side.

"Arnav, leave it. Let's leave," she offered, holding his hand.

Her mere touch was enough to melt his anger and transform him into an ocean of concern. He turned towards her and held her shoulders gently.

"Are you okay? You aren't hurt too much right?" he questioned, eying at her bruised hands and running his hands slightly over them but moving away as soon as he heard her hiss in pain.

He pulled her into an embrace, not caring about the audience watching their display of affection, while Khushi clutched his lapels tightly in her grip, trying to ward off the glimpses of the dark incident.

" Don't you love her, Arnav? Don't you dare lie about it. I have seen the way you look at her and this friendship is just a facade. I think no one is innocent enough to not look beyond the facade and see what exactly it is. After all, Ek Ladka Aur Ek Ladki Kabhi Dost Nahi Bann Sakte." Shyam smirked evilly at Arnav who felt Khushi's grip on his lapels loosen listening to Shyam's words.

" Even this hesitance from your darling girlfriend is a facade I am sure. All these middle class girls just look for rich boys and make them fall in their trap.." Sheetal added fuel to the fire burning Khushi, who stared around to see everyone was smirking at her and immediately pushed Arnav away and ran out of the sight.

"KHUSHI! STOP!" Arnav screamed but it was of no avail, Khushi had made her mind.

"This is not done, Shyam. You will have to pay for your sins," he said, before running after Khushi only to find her sobbing against his car.

"Khushi," he whispered, moving closer to her but as soon as she grew aware of his presence, her face turned nonchalant and cold.

"Khushi, it's okay. It's not your fault. It is a well known fact that Shyam is an idiot and womanizer, who tries at every girl he sees. I swear, I will get him punished. Calm down," he requested, unable to decide if he should hug her or not.

His words were greeted with silence. She would not even look at him in the eye. Remorse and pain hit him hard. He was unable to take care of her when she had come to the party for him. She was insulted due to him. Why would not he learn to be careful?

"Khushi, love, let's go home," he asked, unlocking the car. Only shock found its way into his heart as she silently took her seat without even glancing at him.

Normally, Khushi would fight with him to be the one driving but in the present, she was putting up no fight. His heart ached to see her fight with him and probably come close to him like she always does instinctively while fighting him. He jerked away his thoughts, mentally scolding himself for such thoughts and explained to himself that it was Shyam's words which compelled him to think in that way, but he knew that it was a plain white lie which he offered to himself, unable to accept the truth openly.

Throughout the journey, not even a single word was exchanged. Khushi remained as nonchalant as one could be, immersed deep in her own thoughts. He is true, she thought.

She knew the lowly way in which society worked. Middle-class girls falling for richer men were always gold-diggers and were portrayed in a way that they were incapable of true unconditional love which did not guarantee money or luxuries. For her, her self-respect and pride meant the most and the comment she heard about herself in the party, threatened the very same aspects in her consciousness. She would not endanger her most precious assets, she decided. She would not threaten her father's name and would not give way to the rumors that her father left her in Raizada Mansion so that she could trap their only son, she vowed.

She was unaware why a decision which was almost involuntary and elemental would hurt so much. Only if she could glance at the heart beating for the man beside him, without the lenses which the society installed in her.

Next Day,

Khushi had retired to her room without a word after they had reached home, much to Arnav's annoyance. He was growing tired of Khushi's response to the gibberish spoken by Shyam in the party, the previous night.

"Khushi, why don't you talk to me?" he asked, as she made her way into the garden to take a stroll and relax.

Don't make it tougher for me Arnav, she thought as she decided to sever the bonds between them and destroy whatever little infatuation had brewed in the dark and deep crevasses of her heart.

She continued to ignore him as she would do to a stranger and sat in her favorite gazebo of his garden. She was gnawing the last nerve of his patience when she opened the newspaper and began acting as if she was reading, but it didn't escape Arnav's attention that it was just acting, nothing real.

His patience had fused, giving way to his outburst,

"Khushi, listen to me. You are not going to care so much for an idiot's words and ignore me. This is honestly getting on my nerves. Stop it, for the love of god."

Khushi took in a deep breath, holding her nerve, as she rose up from her seat and prepared to depart from there when Arnav pulled her towards himself and held her against himself.

" Khushi Gupta, don't you dare ignore me any further," he hissed, while Khushi looked back at him defiantly.

Nice update

Hating Shyam and Sheethal. Just to cover up their mistakes, started to accuse Khushi and her status saying she is trying to trap Arnav and make him fall for her. Khushi is also giving importance to their words and hurting Arnav in the process.

Waiting for the next one.

But I'm looking forward to know how Arnav is going to change their screwed up bond into a lovely spring blossoms!!!!!

I barely sleep for two hours a day and I guess it is next to impossible for me to update any sooner. I have already cited the reason of my inactivity, through a note written long back.
