Author's Note: Hello, guys!
Anuradha here and I have penned down part 4.
First of all a huuugggeee thanks to Nidhi (Sarunforeva) for giving me this opportunity to collaborate with the other awesome authors of IF.
And this part is dedicated to Nidhi, Rads, Zoya and Arushi, all of whose amazing earlier parts inspired me to pen down this one.
PART 4
"I wasn't wrong when I fell in love with you...My mistake was that I expected you to fall in love with me too.."
------*------
They say love is blind. But she hadn't realized just how blind.
The more Sanyukta tried to forget him, the more she drowned in his memories. If nostalgia could kill, then she would be long dead.
It is strange how that one person you trust and love beyond all others, ultimately becomes the reason behind your misery.
All her friends including Parth, Kaustuki and Jiggy kept telling her to move on. It's not like she didn't try to, but the love you bear for someone doesn't wither away just like that, does it? And Randhir...he was her first love. He was the first guy she had trusted, the first guy she had loved, the first guy who broke through the barriers of the heart and captivated her soul. She had entrusted him with her everything, which he had taken, toyed with and tossed aside like trash!
She couldn't get rid of the images of him out of her head. The images of betrayal.
-Flashback-
They were the 'it' couple in their college - the hunk and the diva. For Sanyukta all of it was like a living dream. They were never like other clingy couples, but they spent their time together among things that they enjoyed the most. Machines.
They rarely went on dates, but their most special dates were the ones that they spent in the mechanical lab.
It had been almost a year since they had started dating. They were madly in love.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, Sanyukta", he used to tell her. And it made her giddy with happiness.
One such blissful evening, Sanyukta was brimming with excitement and told Kaustuki, "Guess what Kausy! 2 more days and Randhir & I will have our first anniversary! I am planning a surprise for him! And i need ur help..."
"Ohh yeah! Ur anniversary is here, how could i forget it? Of course i will help u Sanyu", replied her roomie and best-friend.
And they sat down to plan what Sanyukta declared would be the 'best anniversary ever'.
After an hour of deciding about the details of the surprise, Sanyukta decided to go out and take a little stroll.
She came out of her hostel and walked towards the ground of FITE. Her mind wandered off to the first day she & Randhir had fessed up to their feelings.
He had confessed in a unique way.
"You are reason behind my smile. And i want to smile all my life...Sanyukta Agarwal, would u want to see this poor soul smiling?" he had said.
And she had responded by bursting into tears...tears of happiness.
And that day had marked the beginning of a saga of unadulterated love, unflinching trust and astounding faith.
Several students were jealous of her perfect love life. Some even tried to create differences by filling her mind with words like "Randhir is cheating on you and u don't even know it." But she knew they were all just a lie. The others were envious of her and couldn't help but try to ruin her paradise.
As Sanyukta approached the FITE park, her thoughts still on Randhir, she noticed some movement behind the bushes. She smiled mentally thinking about the 'couple' that must be hiding behind it, doing god knows what! And it made her recall all the times when she & Randhir used to sneak to the most secret of places just to 'kiss' and have some moments of their own!
Sanyukta was about to turn away to give the couple their privacy when she got a glimpse of them, deeply engrossed in a kiss, blissfully unaware of their surroundings. But what struck her was that they seemed familiar...somehow.
On an impulse she moved closer. The darkness of the night was making it difficult for her to make out the two figures, but curiosity drove her to inch even closer.
And she stopped. Stunned. The scene before her was a nightmare and she wanted to wake up and escape it anyhow.
Randhir, her Randhir, had his tongue down the mouth of Vidushi...the bitch Vidushi.
"He is cheating on you and you don't even know it" their words hit her...hard.
Sanyukta felt weak, her legs were giving up...What was happening? Why wasn't someone waking her up from this nightmare? Didn't they see that she was perishing into oblivion? Didn't they realize that her world had just come crushing down before her very eyes?
She felt numb, her throat felt dry...
"Randhir" the name came out barely as a whisper. And the person in question suddenly snapped his head, broke the kiss, pushing Vidushi away and looked at Sanyukta...aghast. His face looked pale, the realiztion of what he had done having just sunk in. His eyes reflected his inner turmoil, his guilt and his shame.
And Sanyukta finally realized that she wasn't having a nightmare. This was the stark reality. Her world really had crumbled. And she ran and didn't dare look back.

Randhir didn't know how or why the kiss happened. One minute Vidushi was blabbing utter giberish about how foolish Randhir was to not have reallized that Sanyukta was making a fool out of him, and the next moment the bitch had her mouth crushed against his. Before he could react, the kiss had happened. And when he tried to jerk her off, she simply deepened the kiss.
And screw the Gods, Sanyukta witnessed it all. The love of his life just saw him kissing the 'good-for-nothing' twerp.
The shocked look on her face and the simultaneous look of betrayal is something that Randhir would never forget. Sanyukta looked like she had just witnessed a gruesome murder. He had promised himself that he would never let anyone hurt her. And now, he was the one responsible for all her sufferings. He knew he had done something that would taint his image in her eyes forever. But he also knew that she was the one person for whom he would grovel on the ground until she forgave him.
He made a promise then and there. He would redeem himself no matter how long it took. And he ran after her, determined to explain. He wouldn't lose her, he couldn't lose her.

Sanyukta kept running as tears flooded down her face.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, Sanyukta" those words kept ringing in her ears.
She finally paused outside her hostel, catching her breathe.
"Sanyukta, please listen to me" he blurted, having caught up with her finally.
She turned to face him, seething with anger, betrayal etched in every lining of her visage. "You...you swine...you utter piece of crap...you have no right...NO RIGHT TO TALK TO ME...get LOST" she screamed, litteraly.
Randhir had expected this. He deserved it. But he wasn't backing down.
"Sanyukta, please, I didn't mean to kiss..."
"Oh yeah", she cut him across, "You didn't mean to...she forced u to kiss her, right? So, that's ur excuse?? U asshole...I trusted u, loved u with all my heart...I ...gave u everything..." and she broke down. There was only so much hurt she could take.
"Sanyukta" he reached out. It broke his heart into a miilion pieces to see her so distraught. And worse was that he was the reason behind it.
"Stay away from me Randhir Singh Shekhwat..." She spoke in the coldest of voices that sent jitters down his spine, "You have lost the right to even address me anymore. Since how long have u been doing this behind my back, huh? How long?"
"Sanyukta, u are getting it all wrong. I never betrayed u...ever...I love u..." he tried to reason with her.
"Love me?? Really?? u call this love? I was a fool...a fool to have believed that a jingoistic jerk like u was ever capable of a holy thing called love...But it's done now...We are through.." she spat.
"Sanyukta,,please ...don't...give me a chance to explain..please..." he begged.
" It's over Randhir...u had ur chance and u failed. It's so damn over."
And without another word, she turned around and walked away, leaving him rooted to his spot.
Her words cut across Randhir like a knife, wounding him deep. He didn't know what to say, how to respond. And he realized with a jolt that he may have done something irredeemable...he may just have lost her...Forever.
*End of flashback*
Fresh tears leaked out of her eyes as the memories of that fateful day haunted her.
"Why Randhir? Why that Vidushi? Did I mean nothing to u? Was all those words u told me just a lie? They can't be...they seemed genuine to me...Was I so blinded?"
These questions plagued her mind. And Sanyukta realized that some scars were harder to eliminate than others. And this particular scar was dented deep, so deep that it disrupted her very being.

"What does forever mean to you?
When you couldn't even keep it true;
You said to me that u would forever be there;
But were those mere words, pulled out of thin air?"
