""rey!" she knew he was upset but this still hurt her . controlling her frustration ," rey, main aana chahthi hoon..."

"but aa nahin rahin ho na..tumhaara presentation ek din baad hain , u can come and go back in time for your presentation. This dance is so... new and exciting , im sure you ll like it, tum enjoy karogi dance ko... aur hamare success ko bhi ..." he spoke rapidly , disappointment heavy in his voice..

" i need to prepre for the next day rey aur main kaise..." she attempted feebly. He interrupted

" its not easy taani to get something like this...we r a part of dances that are a story...its worthe a watch aur tum... and i want you to be a part of it but theres no point in forcing it on you jab tum chahthi nahin ho" no reply,"tumne promise kiya tha ki ksis bhi important performance ko tum dekhne aaogi but..."he sighed running his hand in his hair messing it up.

her eyes filled up, "rey , please listen..i know ki yeh team ke liye big break hain but yahaan sirf mere akele ki baat nahin hain. outside log aanewaale hain tho its college work, i just cant..XXX ne mujhe kuch responsibility di..."

That was the last straw for rey s self control," fine!" he snapped ," apne GS ki baat ko tum kaise taal sakthi ho.Tum apne GS ke saath ...jo karna hain karo" anger threatening to replace the disappointment completely ,he continued in the same furious tone

" rey thats unfair" it took all of taani s self control not to throw the mobile at him

"unfair? Really?? U know whats unfair ? yeh ki tum soch bhi nahin rahin ho ki tum kaise aasakthi ho, attempt hi nahin hain... " he stopped and then closing his eyes in irritation that he was screaming at her so much said," i dont know taani..sorry ...im just disappointed maybe ..but uve become pata nahin kya...workoholic ...shayad tumhaareliye sahin hain but i ...i just miss the girl who forgot being a GS and came running to goa ..mereliye." there was complete silence on either end...there he had said it out - what had been running in his subconscious mind the whole time came out - sounding rude and hurtful and lost

she felt a lump in her throat, she swallowed, wiped her eyes and after a moment replied in a breaking voice,"and shayad usi ladki se aapne breakup kiya tha " it took him a second to realise all that the sentence conveyed , before he could reply - not that he knew what to say, she continued flatly not bothering about how she sounded now ," rey im sorry but main nahin aapaaoongi bcoz ...chodo aap waise bhi reasons nahin jaana chahthe ho.." he frowned ," aur abhi dono hi tired hain so lets not talk , aap apne performance pe concentrate karo bas , koi aaye ya na aaye..."

"oh i can take care of my dance , tumhe worry karne ki necessity nahin" she lost her patience and he lost his cool

"fine then. Main chalthi hoon.mujhe..."

"...kaam hain i know" he completed sarcastically. She disconnected in anger and disappointment.

Taani scene-

she sat staring at the laptop screen for a while attempting to ignore the leaden heaviness in her heart and do something but as his words echoed in her ears, her eyes filled up again , she wiped it and they just filled up...taani stop it, phir se nahin samhaalo apne aapko, u know ki he doesn't mean anything , bas khudh ke disappointment nikaalrahen hain..seriously mat lo...but main kya karoon...kya karoon ...I

"lots to do taani...taani..." XXX/Natasha in front of her talking, she didnt realise , natasha shook her and she looked at them," hello! Madam kahaan khoyi hui ho? bohot kuch hain karne ko..." XXX

Natasha," ru ok darling? Whats up? Itna upset ??" and put a friendly arm around her shoulder. Taanis controlled tears flowed down at her friendly concern and she shook her head trying to stop , the two exchanged worried glances but let her cry . she stopped after a few minutes , wiped her eyes with the tissue XXX gave ," sorry"

"kya hua? U fought with ur boyfriend?" Natasha in all bluntness

"Natasha! " XXX

" kya? Thats the most common reason for girls in college to cry. Taani , guys are horrible and boyfriends are ...horribler" taani forced a smile ," see i was right," Natasha continued to XXX who looked bugged with her ," rey trouble hi hain, kya hua?" taani shook her head nothing ," of course tum nahi bataoge but its ok u know u can backbite and bitch a little on ur boyfriend once in a way. Its healthy" XXX rolled his eyes at her," tum chup raho, u wont understand" he made a face at her what did i say," jab tum bad stuff ke baare mein baat karogi, tab it all comes out" she made a gesture with her hand like coming out ,it looked like she was puking " and then only the good stuff stays in " gesture to show staying in looking funny now," and tumhaara pyaar badega rey ke liye"

"OH shut up Natasha...tumhaara gossip meter badega bas" he stopped her and looing at taani," taani kya hua? Do u want to talk" she hesitated," maybe we can help" she looked at them from one to the other and told them in brief that rey was angry she wasn't attending his big break performance.

Reys room/sharons place

Rey was furious, he didnt know if he was angry more or disaapointed more. All that he knew was nahin aayegi, itna zidd.he stared at the mobile , at her snap on the screen getting angry with that and it rang- Sharon...sigh! he was in no mood to talk.

it rang persistently like Sharon was screaming out,he received-"rey ! listen. Kal costume rehersals ka time shift hogaya haina? Why didnt they tell us before? Just bcoz hum new hain, they cant ...Blah blah blah..." he went blank and when he heard her ," REY R U THERE?" he replied," Sharon i dont care ok...ki why they didnt tell us or u or whatever but thats the time and tumhe aana hain tho aao, otherwise just ditch it. im not talking to them about this again 5 days before the show.. and bharat ko bhi boldena .." and CUT. Sharon stared at the mobile wondering what happened and turned to swayam -" i cant believe he hung up on me! Isse kya hua? And main bharat ko kyun boloon? Kya? "

Swayam had glimpses of troubled rey on and off during the past week," sharon agar time shift kiys bhi ismein rey ki kya galthi?? Show ke liye 5 din hain, ab yeh sab chodo and about rey- dont worry, maybe he s just stressed out. he s been balancing between all of us for quite some time ...and bharat ko main batadoonga .." Sharon looked like she agreed. Swayam wondered if there was more- rey wouldn't hang up on Sharon so easily.

Reys room

Rey turned from the call and wanting to punch something looked around , caught sight of his dad at the door stading and looking like he was watching him , " dad, aap? Aap kab se khade ho? wahaan kyun? come in"

"no its okay, i came to see if you want an early dinner kyunki mujhe kuch kaam tha later on"

Rey looked at the time ," haan of course chalo" and still looking like he wanted to hit someone moved ,both walked out for dinner

Dinner table

Rey was unusually quiet , mobile rang - Taani, his expression changed , he cut the call and pretended to be busy eating . noticing it, his dad asked," taani ka hain?" rey nodded and added ," baad mein baat karloonga"

"umm still going strong?" rey hesitated a small second, nodded,"umm, surprising tum dono"

"matlab"

Rey s dad stopped eating as rey waited and replied slowly like he had been wanting to say it for a long time now," matlab, u guys are very different , came from different backgrounds and phir bhi ...kab se saath ho?" rey calculated mentally

"more than an year and a half...minus some time beech mein jab hum saath nahin the" he added.So they had had their share of troubles..reys dad thought," but dad why?"

"i know ..now isn't the right time , tumhaara show hain and uve to concentrate on that...i happened to overhear ur conversation abhi abhi" rey rey was embarrassed and it showed on his face "...not intentionally...so i just asked.." and pointing to reys plate ,"and Usually agar girlfriend troubles hain tho khaane ka mann nahin hota, kisiko maarne ka mann hotha hain"

Rey s embarrassment high,he said ," "no no..dad its nothing ...really..." and as his dad had the look of dont bother lying to me, he stopped and continued,"just a small fight...taani s not coming for the show and i was upset bas"

"umm..why s she not coming?" he asked eating

Rey stopped pretending to eat ," uska presentation hain a day after the show and she has to prepare kuch..."

"oh yes, she messaged ..but i know , its hurting jab wo apne project ko tumhaare show se zyaada priority dethi hain " he replied there was a slight sarcasm in his tone and rey was surprised

"no no dad , wo aisa nahin hain..i guess she just cant help it this time ..." he supported . reys dad raised his eyebrows," i mean she usually puts the team first really, she likes dance aur usse wo struggle , jo humein karna padtha hain each step mein, ache sa samaj aathi hain ,in fact usne itna fight kiya tha jab hamare team ko NDC se baahar nikaaldiya tab..." he stopped remembering , his expression softened for a sec and then continued seeing her in the minds eye ," ...and she always puts me first," in a flashback mode , not realising he said me instead of the team ,"usne apna project change kiya just to stay here with me ...she.."

" then its all the more reason that shes not the one for you " this pulled rey back from flashbacks , shocked at the direct comment," i mean u dont need someone worshipping you all the time! " and then correcting," atleast i dont think its good for you to be with someone who worships you , who cant think beyond you and your interests " he was again sarcastic

" dad...i thought u liked her.."

"of course i do ..shes sweet ,bohot pyaari hain and im going to send her a cheque for her idea..but thats professional ..."

"i dont understand aap confuse karrahe ho mujhe...ya aap hi confused ho?"

Reys dad laughed," no no im not confused. She s nice but i dont think she s the one for you bas " rey was about to talk but his dad held up his hand," look rey, i don't want you to think im interfering in your personal life ( dad!) but now that its come up...im just saying it..u guys are different " rey had a so what look almost aggressively, his dad though he noticed it, ignored it but

"i dont get it dad..so ..?" he interrupted his tone irritated

"rey, firstly this is not a conversation i want to have with you so you can change your tone" reys dad shot back

"sorry," rey closed his eyes, backtracked and said again in forced normal voice," sorry dad ...i dont know ki mujhe ...sorry..."

"i dont expect you to understand rey but listen - and listen completely - you are ambitious, you have a sense of adventure jo usmein nahin hain..." rey s face fell," ...and thats a huge difference" he stopped," u want different things in life...she ..."

rey looked at his plate but interrupted again," but dad har couple same nahin rehthe..u and mom r different..."

" u never listen !!! " he sighed ," itna impulsiveness! " he stopped looking at a guilty but angry rey, " well, if u want to make any relation work, you have to work at it - thats what im saying" dad snapped. Rey looked confused angry frustrated all at once...his dad continued," iv e no problem who u r with as long as u can handle it but from what i have seen of u and her ..." he hesitated and toning down continued," well...u need to do ur bit .." rey still didnt get what his dad was saying exactly didnt he run all the way from here till her college to bring her back in his life! ," if you cant otherwise break up sooner the better" he said flatly, " especially for her"he added

" no!" rey s response was immediate," no dad ive done that once before aur main phir se wo galthi nahin karne waala hoon" he spoke almost to himself his voice strong.

His dad smiled and got up, moved patted him, placed both his hands on reys shoulders and said," dont get me wrong rey, she s very sweet but yeh uske baare mein nahin hain, its about you...well, ive to go, mera kaam hain abhi"

Rey half smiled, half nodded and half heartedly said thanks dad

Dad laughed ," but for now forget all this if possible, patch up soon and concentrate on ur performance ok. " and started walking away but stopped and asked," actually taani ka presentation day tumhaare dance ke baad haina? " rey nodded," ummm , so i guess you are going there" rey looked puzzled for a second and then stumped. Reys dad happy that he had finally got his point across went to do his work.

Rey sat at the table , his mind in whirl with his dad s words.
