Actor Anupam Bhattacharya, who will next be seen in War 2, feels that the content on Indian television has changed. However, he stressed that traditional content will still flourish. He said, “With the introduction of web series, definitely realistic content has found space within the Indian audience, but it's difficult to knock off saas bahu serials, as they're embedded in our mainstream TV shows and form a formidable part of entertainment for the B-town audience, which is a huge sector.”
“While Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is coming back with a second season, the story has to be calibrated according to the current generation, but it definitely has the potential to draw an audience even though the expectations are going to be immense. Any show with a relevant storyline will do well today,” he added.
However, he feels that the content on the TV today lacks multi-level screenplays where there are multiple tracks and many stories within a show. He added, “Instead today we follow a single-track lead story, leaving many characters redundant in a show. It would be interesting if the former format could be backed again.”

Asked for his preference between a limited series or long-running show, Anupam said, “As an actor I would prefer a limited series over long-running shows to simply beat the monotony and avoid overexposure, though I agree long-running shows can be rewarding financially.”
With the social media boom, influencers have gained widespread popularity, so much so that they have also entered the acting realm. Talking about that, he said, “I don't look at social media influencers as my direct competitors, as I am not a reality star. Influencers bringing the power of followers developed from making reels are far apart from experience drawn from films, ad films, OTT, or television; hence, they are more suitable for reality shows, which is not my preference.”
With growing content and opportunities courtesy of OTT platforms, the actor is clear about the kind of content he wants to be part of. "On OTT I would like to associate with thriller content mostly, as it is more engaging and commands a bigger scale, and the characters are well designed and are not stereotypical,” Anupam ended.
