Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap arrested for killing a college student

Guwahati police have taken Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap into custody following a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 21-year-old student Samiul Haque. The incident occurred on July 25 in Guwahati's Dakhingaon area, where Haque was allegedly hit by a Scorpio SUV, driven by Kashyap, while he was on his way home. Despite severe injuries, Haque succumbed to them on July 29, prompting the police to add more charges against Kashyap.

“The actress was officially arrested around 1:30 AM on Wednesday. We have added Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the case," police officials were quoted as saying by local news network Gplus.

“The accident occurred late at night, but we did not receive any information on July 25. We came to know about the incident only on July 26, after the victim’s family lodged a complaint,” an investigating officer said. Police then called Kashyap for questioning.

“Though there were allegations that she was under the influence of alcohol, it was not possible to establish because we came to know about the incident the next day,” the officer added.

DCP (Traffic) Guwahati, Jayanta Sarathi Bora, announced that a case has been filed against Kashyap, citing sections from the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The charges include BNS 105 (culpable homicide) and BNSS 125B (hit-and-run causing death), both of which are non-bailable offenses.

NDTV reported that the incident took place in Guwahati's Dakhingaon area around 3 AM on July 25. The victim, identified as Samiul Haque, a student from Nalbari Polytechnic, also worked part-time for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

The student was reportedly on his way home when a Scorpio, allegedly driven by the Assamese actor, hit him. The 21-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital, where his family said he had severe head injuries and multiple fractures in both legs. Sadly, he later died from his injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the actress did not stop to help the victim and left the scene. The family also claims that the Assamese actor promised to pay for his medical treatment but never came to the hospital.

Police have seized Kashyap's car, but she denies any involvement in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
