Summer Affairs Chapter Three
Sana was sitting on her bed crying when the door opened. She looked up at her father and saw the sorry look that covered his face.
"Can I come in?" He asked with a soft smile.
"Dad," she stood, "you're already in."
"I'll remember to knock next time."
"Dad!" She marched to him and hugged him tightly. "You don't ever have to knock to come into my room."
He sat down on the sofa and pulled her down beside him. After gathering her into his arms again and kissed her forehead. "Sana I'm sorry. I know how you felt to see Kripa sit where your Mom used to sit. But I didn't mean to be rude or not understand. She sat there because Sia was sitting on the next chair. Not because she wanted to take Mom's place. No one could ever do that."
Now despite of her anger she hugged her father back again.
"You owe her an apology." She nodded. "Now would you like to go to 'Kold Stone?'?"
"No Dad I…"
"I'll let you drive."
"Really?" She looked up at his grin.
"Really. Who else?"
"Just us. It's always nice to go somewhere alone with you. You're a fun girl."
"And you're the best Dad." She kissed his cheek and they both stood.
Saturday's were Kripa's days off. She wasn't responsible for any of the girls. But on the third Saturday when Angad asked her to look after the girls she refused. When he asked why she replied by saying she had already made another commitment. Now he didn't ask what this other commitment was because she couldn't tell him she had found herself a charming guy.
Now as Angad drove his car to Mr. and Mrs. Singhania's party with his date Neha Raichand beside him, he couldn't help but wonder where Kripa Sharma was at the moment. Although Angad had planned he would cancel his plans for the night and take his daughter out to a movie and dinner, he was forced to change his plans when Neha pleaded him to come along. Sana agreed to look after Sana and Sia and forced him to go as well.
A part of him was glad that he wasn't going to go at first because it was a formal party which meant he had to dress up. And wearing a dinner jacket for hours was beyond his control. But he had to please Neha. They were dating each other after all. And after being married he knew how to treat a lady well.
"How's the new Nanny?" She asked in him in a sweet voice to break the silence that had surrounded them for the past fifteen minutes.
"She's ok. Sia and Sanjana love her. And then Sana… you know her."
"Good. I'm glad it's working out with the Nanny. At least we won't have to leave early."
He looked at her carefully. "Why would we have to leave early."
She shrugged. "Well you know-" she waived a hand around to make it sound casual. "the kids."
Angad was disappointed in her comment. "Don't worry. We can stay for as long as we wish tonight."
"Oh thank you! It's going to be so much fun! And I'm hoping she won't run away this time… specially because of Sana."
"Neha," he tried his best not to show his irritation towards her at the moment. He kept his voice calm as well. "Sana is taking care of the girls."
"Oh! I'm thrilled. She thinks she's the princess of the worlds." She sounded disgusted and so un-lady like.
Angad gripped the steering wheel of his car tightly to keep himself calm. Only if Neha understood that Sana was a normal sixteen year old girl. Only if Neha understood what it felt like to loose a mother at such a young age. Sana was a good kid. Her teachers never complaint against her in school. She has been on the honor roll, gold, since fourth grade. In her entire life she had only got one "C" on her report card which was in Geometry. Which she made up to an "A" during summer school. As far as her behavior was concerned he didn't care. She was acting like another teen in this world. The important factor was she understood her mistakes. That was a fact because she had said sorry to Kripa before they had left for Kold Stone that night.
"She didn't mind Neha. And she's always helping around when Kripa isn't home or I'm not around."
"Kripa?" She looked at him completely.
"Yes the new nanny. She isn't home tonight. She had other plans."
"What the hell does that mean? She works for you, she's not a guest."
Again Angad felt like his temper was rising and he picked up speed to keep it cool. "Saturdays are her days off, Neha."
"What?" She was in disbelief and her eyes pooping out of her head was a proof that she was very thrilled. "That's ridiculous. You're suppose to give her Monday nights off not a weekend night. You're too generous sweetheart."
Sweetheart, it reminded him to Roshni. He closed his eyes and quickly opened them again. He loved her so much and she just left him. Left him hanging in the middle. He stayed quite for a minutes or two until Neha spoke again.
"I'm sure she asked for it. Well I'm sure I can arrange someone else whose not so busy."
"No!" Angad snapped at her. "Last time you send someone Sia wouldn't step out of the room unless I was with her. She's really comfortable with Kripa and that's what I care for. I can cancel an appointment with anyone for my daughters Neha, and you have to understand that if you want us to continue dating. I promised Roshni I wouldn't neglect my daughter for anything and I'm going to keep my promise. If it annoys you you're free to leave."
"Relax Angad." She placed a hand on his shoulder as they reached the party. He stepped out and waited for Neha. "I'm sorry Angad." She looked at him and he knew she was sorry. With a roll of his eyes he pulled her into a hug. "I love your daughters. But I guess I'm used to getting the attention." She held him back and then tilted her head back to look at him.
"It's ok." He kissed her lightly and they walked into the party.
"Kripa!" She turned around in her sizzling gold gown and looked at the tall handsome hand with his arms wide open. "Here you are. I thought I would never find you."
With a smile Kripa placed her glass of Champaign down and walked into his arms. When they parted she looked up at the handsome man.
Yash Singhania was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Singhania, and absolutely spoiled. He was a business major and determined at the moment to woo this brown eyed beauty in front of her.
"Yash, sweetheart."
With a straight smile he nodded his head and slowly turned. "Mother. You look absolutely beautiful. By the way meet Kripa Sharma. Kripa, my mother."
"Hi Ma'am."
"Hi sweetheart." She hugged her and Yash picked up two glasses, handing one to his mother and the other two Kripa. "You better be careful with him. He knows how to make and break pretty well." She winked and then excused herself.
"Don't listen to her Kripa." Yash waived a hand in the air. "She's extremely sweet, but very annoying at times. Don't mind what she said."
Kripa smiled weakly and glanced the party. Yash had told her to dress fancy for the party and then after the party he would treat her. She dressed fancy and waited for the party but didn't like it very much. She wished she was at Khanna house playing board games with Sia and Sanju like she had done for the past two Saturdays. But now she was stuck here waiting for her special surprise. She hated seeing all the rich ladies brag about their diamond rings and designer outfits. She felt uncomfortable and not to mention out of place.
Right when things couldn't get any worst she spotted Angad Khanna standing arms hooked with a lady just a few inches shorter than him. She wore an elegant black dress with studs spead evenly around the entire dress. In her delicate, manicured fingers hung a sleek wine glass. Her silky, brunet hair hung down her back curled delicately at the ends. She clung to Angad Khanna like she owned him. She was fragile, perfect, like a princess.
As Angad turned his head towards Neha and kissed her cheek, Kripa felt her heart burn. Her eyes started to get blurry and she felt like she was going to fall back and faint. She couldn't allow him to see her here at such a lavish party. Somewhere she didn't belong. Before she could turn she spotted him glancing the crowd and his eyes stopped and met hers.
She looked like a statue of gold standing between statues of stones. Perfectly polished. Her glittering glorious gold halter neck dress clung to her body. Her eyes looked lighter than they normal. Standing out against the beautiful creamy skin. And her hair, he never knew they were so long. So bright, for far away they looked like silk.
When he saw Yash by her again running a hand down her hair and then grabbing her around her waist, pulling her close in a harsh manner, he felt his blood boil. Yash was a playboy and he knew that well, better than many others.
Kripa's eyes left him and she turned, clung to Yash as he took her for a dance.
"Neha." He looked at her and took her wine from her hands. "Would you like a dance?"
Neha was surprised at his question. Angad never asked anyone for a dance except his wife. Neha knew well of that fact. "Of course." She slipped her hand into his and they walked to the dance floor dancing beside Yash and Kripa.
Neha glanced around and spotted Yash. "Angad isn't that Mrs. Singhania's son, Yash?"
"He sure is." He mumbled looking at her, pulling her an inch closer now.
"Who is that charming girl with her. I don't think I've seen her at any of these parties before."
"And I wasn't expecting to see her today," he mumbled and Neha looked back at him. There was something in his eyes that she had never seen before. He looked disturbed, like he was somewhere else but not dancing with her. "Let's go say hi to Yash. We haven't seen him in a long time."
"Yes," she drew her hands away from his neck and clung to his arm again.
"Yash!" She called.
He left Kripa and kissed both her cheeks. "It's been long since I've seen you. And you look stunning. Like always. I don't know how you keep yourself so fit."
She laughed lightly, in the flirtiest manner.
Kripa frowned, he was flirting with someone else right before her eyes when he was her date. More importantly he hadn't once told her how beautiful she looked.
Angad noticed her frowning face and wasn't surprised. She obviously didn't know Yash or his reputation.
Kripa was disgusted he hadn't even cared to introduce her to the lady. She was surprised when Angad stopped the conversation.
"Yash, would you care to introduce the beautiful lady?" He looked at Kripa.
"Oh of course. I forgot." He turned and she smiled quickly. "This is Kripa Sharma. This is Neha Raichand and this is Angad Khanna." He was about to add in 'you must know him' when Neha broke in.
"Hi Kripa." Neha pulled her and kissed both her cheeks. "You look beautiful. And your outfit is absolutely magnificent? Whose the designer?"
"Thank you, Neha. You look lovely yourself." She managed a slow nervous smile. She had to answer who the designer was.
Angad could see on Neha's face she was waiting for the name so she could go see him or her first thing tomorrow. Then he noticed that Kripa was still fumbling with that question.
"Neha." Angad said leaving her waist. "What matters is that the dress is beautiful and so is the lady wearing it." Kripa was in awe by his comment, she couldn't help but lower her dark lashes and smile. "Not the designer, right Kripa?"
"Thank you Angad." She smiled more comfortably now.
"So what do you do?" Neha asked stepping into Angad's arms again.
Kripa was disgusted by her behavior and so was Angad. Why couldn't she stand like every other lady in the room without sticking against him like a lizard to the wall. He was a fine man and no one could deny that. But she needed to show some trust in the man instead of feeling insecure.
"She's Kripa Sharma." Angad spoke before she could. "She's the nanny I was telling you about."
"Yup! " Yash nodded. "She must love kids." He looked back at Neha, as Angad left to attend his call. "Neha care for a dance?"
"Only if Kripa doesn't mind." Neha looked at her for a reply, but Yash didn't give her a chance.
"Of course she doesn't mind." Yash took her arm and left a fuming Kripa in the crowd alone. With sad eyes she walked out of the party outside in the grass. Angad followed her when he saw Neha busy with Yash.
