CHAPTER 8:

Rishto ka koi mol nahi hota..
wo anmol hote hai..
kab kise apna bana le..
patani hi nahi chalta..
rishte man se hote hai..
jinme koi dikhawa nahi hota..
ek dusre ke prati..
apnapan , pyar aur vishwas hota hai..

"Choti... Choti... can you hear me??" there was no response.

Arjunn retries the number, but the call does not get connected. He calls his officer to know more about the call. It was located from an isolated path, a bit far away from the main road. He doesn't know what to do. He calls Sameer.

Sam: hello Arjun, kaise ho yaar?

Arj: Sam I'm sending you an address. patha lagao ke Choti waha kya kar rahi thi?

Sam: what? Baath kya hai?

Arj: abhi kuch der pehle, she called me. Bohot dari thi. Keh rehe the ke, koi un dono ko follow kar rahe hai. Aur kuch kehne se pehle, call cut ho gayi. I don't feel its good Sam. Please check karna.

Sam: hey relax, I'll look into the matter myself. Tum chinta math karo. Just give me the location. Mein Choti ke number bhi trace pe lagatha hum. Tum fikar math karo. Mein dekhlunga.

He cuts the call and sends the address. Somewhere inside he was frightened. He waited for a while. Roshni was waiting for him. He used to be late at times, but then he used to inform someone at home. but today he didn't call.she was worried. It was almost midnight. There Arjun was waiting for Sam's information. He called him again. Sam said that he needed some more time. Arjun could feel the tension in Sam's voice.

Roshni decided to call Arjun.

Rosh: Arjun, kaha ho aap? Everything alright?

Arj: ha Roshni. Bas... thoda kaam tha...

Rosh: kya hua? Kaafi tensed lag rahe ho? Aap teekh tho haina?

Arj: ha... mein teekh hu...

Rosh: agar jhoot bolna nahi athe tho math boliye na!! kahiye, kya problem hai? Koi case mila hai??

Arjun was so silent. It frightened her.

Rosh: Arjun... Please... bathayiye na... baath kya hai...

Arj: Roshni, wo... Choti...

Rosh: kya hua??

Arj: sh... Roshni... dheere. She called me today. (he tells her the matter) meine Sam ko bheja hai, patha lagane keliye. Rosh are you there?

Rosh: ha yahi hu. Wo teekh tho haina Arjun?

Arj: usse kuch nahi hoga Rosh. Bas ab ma-pappa ko kuch math bathana. Wo dar jayegi. I'll come as soon as possible. Ek bar Sam ka call ane do.

Rosh: ok. Aap fikar math kijiye. She'll be fine.

Later by midnight, Arjun came home. Roshni was waiting for him at the door. He looked so tired. She came forward and hugged him.

Rosh: kuch patha chala?

Arjun nods no. "Sam ne kaha hai ke bohot jald hi call karega."

Rosh: dont worry.

Arj: ma-pappa so gaye hai na?

She nods. "ayiye khana khalijiye."

Arj: nahi Rosh. Bhoog nahi hai.

Rosh: kaise nahi hai? Ayiye. Kithne thaki lag rahe hai. Jao, fresh hoke aao. Mein khana lagatha hu.

Arjun goes and comes back after a while. She was waiting for him at the table and places his plate ready. He was just touching the food, eating only once in a while. She takes the plate and brings forward a mouthful of food for him. He just watches her.

Rosh: khayiye. She'll be fine. Please kayiye.

He takes the food, but his eyes get full. Rosh touches his cheek. "hey, ye kya? Aap aise nahi tuut sakthe. Sam haina waha pe. She'll be fine." He hugs heer by the neck; the food was choking at his throat. She carasses his hair. After a while he composes, and she makes him a few more times. But then he stops her. "tumne khana khaya tha kya?"

Rosh: mein kha lungi. Aap khayiye.

Arjun was upset now; he takes the food and feed her too. They feed each other, and then she goes to wash, while he sits in the room. She comes in a while and sits by him holding his hands. Then his phone rings.

Arj: Sam, Choti kaha hai?

Am: relax Arjun. Mere baath dhyan se suno. Kya tum Delhi aasakthe ho?

Arjun is shocked. "kya hua Sam? Wo teekh tho haina?"

Sam: Arjun relax please. Daro math she'll be fine.

Arj: tum mere sawal ka jawab nahi diya Sam. Wo teekh tho haina? (Roshni is too worried and holds his hands tightly)

Sam: actually patha nahi Arjun.

Arj: patha nahi matlab??

Sam: Arjun, she is missing.

Arj: what???

Sam: sab bathatha hu. Bas tum yaha aajo. Jaldi.

He cuts the call. Arjun dosen't know how to react.

Rosh: kya hua Arjun? Choti kaise hai?

Arj: she is missing. (Rosh is in shock) Rosh, mujhe jaana hoga. Jaldi. (he calls someone and arranges a flight ticket.) Roshni, mein kal sabere 5 baje hi niklunga. Ma-pappa ko kuch patha nahi hona chahiye. Please.

Rosh: Arjun, kya main bhi...

Arj: nahi Rosh, main chaltha hu. Tumhe yahi rukhna hai. Unke khayal rakhna hoga. She'll be fine. Mein use kuch hone nahi dunga.

Rosh: patha nahi kyu Arjun, bohot dar lagraha hai.

He hugs her."daro math. Everyhthing will be fine" they pack his bag and wait for the morning. He was ready by 3am, and goes to the door. He hugs her and kisses her forehead. "ma-pappa ko math uthana. Sone do. Bas ithna kehna ke koi zaroori kaam agaye, isliye gaye hai. Aur kehna ke Choti se milke hi aunga. Mein nikaltha hu. Aur daro math ok?" she nods and he leaves for the airport.

By 8 am Arjun reaches Sam's office in Delhi. He walks in with an officer. Sameer who was speaking with his colleages saw him and comes forward. He hugs Arjun heartily. The team mates looked surprised. Maybe they never saw this face of their chief.

Sam: kaise ho?

Arj: leave me Sam, bolo kuch patha chala.

Sam: come bathatha hu. (he takes him to the team mates) Team, this ACP Arjun Suryakanth Rawte. Mumbai se hai. Aur mere dost bhi. Aur Arjun, welcome to ETF... ye hai mere team.(introduces each one of them) Riya Mukharjee, the Reseacch specialist. Shree, IT specialist and Chotu, Cammando. Hum yahi case pe lagi hua hai.

Arj: Sameer I need to find her soon.

Sam: patha hai Arjun . we are with you. Kya tumhe kuch aur patha hai? Did she mention something else yesterday?

Arjun was about to speak, when his phone rang. It was Roshni. He looked at Sam and he knew the matter. Arjun excused and went out.

Riya: Sir, ye missing case ko solve karne Mumbai se koi kyu aya hai? We could do it.

Sree: ha sir. Aur wo kaafi disturbed bhi lag rahe hai.

Sam: tum ye sab isliye keh rahe ho, kyunki tum log usse nahi janthe. He is one of the best officers back at Mumbai. Aur mere bohot purane dost bhi. Aur rahe uske disturbed hone ke wajah, ye case sirf usse hi nahi, mujhe bhi bohot important hai.

Chotu: aise kya baath hai sir?

Riya: ha sir, kal se notice kiya hai humne, aap kaafi pareshan lag rahe hai.

Sam looks out at Arjun who was in phone. He looked tensed. He was consoling a frightnened Roshni.

Sam: kyunki the missing girl,Anjali, I mean Anjali Suryakant Ratwe is his sister. Anji, yani hamari, Choti, we need her back ASAP.

Sameer was silent again. Now the team knew the tension. Arjun comes in and watches the team being silent.

Arj: kya hua Sameer?

Sam: kuch nahi. Roshni the line pe? (Arjun nods) kya ma-pappa ko patha hai? (he nods no). its ok, Arjun, hum usse dhond nikalenge.

Arj: ha Sameer jithne jaldi hosake uthne jaldi.

Sam: ok Arjun sit . aur bathao.

he sits at the other end of the table. (NB: just like the older days in Arjun... remember??)

Arj: kal sham jab Choti..(he stops and looks at Sam and team. Sam mentions to carry on) ok Choti ne call kiya tha aur keh rahe the ke 'wo hum dono ko dhund raha hai' that means there was someone else too. Par kaun?

Sam: did she mention someone?

Arj: no, par she sound as if she knew the person. (he thinks for a while) kahi wo ladki tho nahi?

Sam: kaun?

Arj: kal ke newspaper hai tumhare paas?? (Riya gives him and he mentions the girl) Sanju. Choti usse mile thi. She called me yesterday ye bathane ke, Sanuja ko wo ek park me mile the, aur fir gayab hogaya.

Sam: Shree patha lagao, iss Sanju ke bare me. (Shree looks at his laptop and search for a while)

Shree: Sanju Khanna. Khanna group of industries ke owner, Mr. Samay Khanna ke eklauthi beti. 10 years. Kal sabere apne maa ke saath park me gayi thi. Thode baath wapas athe waqt, mom kuch khareed rahe the, uss park ke pas hi. Ek van aaya aur ladki ko uthakar chale gaye. Van mein number plate thak nahi the, bas ithna patha tha ke red color ka van tha.

Arj: koi ransom call?

Shree: abhi thak nahi.

Sam: Riya, tum aur Arjun waha jao. Mein aur Shree uss park me chaltha hai. Chotu tum informers se puchlo.

Arj: par Sam, mein tumhare team ke saath kaise?

Sam: ab problem wo nahi hai Arjun. You are a seasoned officer. You can get along. Tum bas team ke madad kar rahe ho. So its fine as long as I allow you.

Arj: thanks Sam.

Sam: wo sab Choti ko milne ke baad bathana...

They leave. Riya was driving the SUV. Arjun was silent. He was noticing him at times. He looked worried.

Riya: aap fikar math kijiye sir, she will be fine.

Arjun looks at her and nods. He takes his phone and call home. "hello, Roshni?"

Ro: kya hua Arjun kuch patha chala?

Arj: nahi mein Sam ke saath investigation kar raha hu. Choti ek missing ladki ke bare mein bathaya tha na, wahi jaraha hu. Shayad ye sab judi hai.

Rosh: ok. Kuch patha chala tho batha dena...

Arj: tum teekh tho haina?

Rosh: ha. Aap fikar math kijiye. She'll be fine.

Arj: ok. Bye. Raktha hu.

Riya led the SUV to the home. "Sir, ye hai Sanju ki ghar. (he was about to get out) Sir, if you don't mind... Roshni??"

Arj: she is my wife. Chale??

She nods and they goes out.

They goes in and wait at the door. A maid open the door and takes them in. Riya looks at Arjun and he nods. She goes forward to the lady. "ETF... aap Mrs. Khanna hi. Right?"

The lady nods. "dekhiye hum apke beti ke kidnapping ke bare mein kuch puchne aya hu" the mother cries out. Riya consols her and makes her sit. Mr. Khanna also comes there. and sits by his wife.

Mr. Khanna: puchiye.

Arj: kya aap batha sakthe hai, actually kya hua tha?

The lady explains everything.

Riya: tho wo van me koi number nahi the? (she nods no) aur kuch notice kiya apne, wo admi ke chehra ya kuch aur?

Mom: do log bahar aye the. Aur andar ek driver bhi the. Kaafi bada admi tha. Bohot rough looking.

Arj: aur kuch. (she thinks a lot)

Mom: ha, uske haath mein kuch tattoo tha. Kuch likha tha. Language patha nahi.

Riya: apko yaad hai, wo kaisa tha.

Mom: ha thoda thoda.

Arj: Riya, uske sketch banao. (mom explains and she draws) ab wo picture Shree ko do. Shayd kuch patha chale.

She gets up to go.

Mom: aap meri beti ko wapas layenge na?

Arj: (goes close to her) zaroor. Ek baath puchna tha. Kal apne ek ladki se mile the park me? Anjali naam thi uski?

Mom: ha, Sanju se dosti bhi kiya tha usne. Badi pyari bachi thi. Aapko kaise patha?

Arj: wo mere behen hai.

Mom: acha?? Kaise hai wo?

Arj: (silent for a while) wo ab missing hai. Shayd wo bhi apke beti ke paas hai. Hum in dono ko dhund raha hai.

Mom: oh no.. wo bhi?? I hope wo do teekh hai...
