Chapter 8A: ek dosti..ek nayi shuruwaat…
After a few minutes of absolute silence…..he walked to her….and held out his hand to her again….
"pyar nahi kar sakthi..shaadi nahi kar sakthi…par dhosti?…dhosti toh kar sakthi ho na?
Lets be friends Riya…."
Dhundhla jaayein jo manzilein
Ik pal ko tu nazar jhuka
Jhuk jaaye sar jahan wahin
Milta hai rab ka raasta
Teri kismat tu badal de
Rakh himmat bas chal de
Tere saathi mere kadmon ke hain nishaan

She didn't respond…she just looked at his held out hand and looked as if lost in her own thoughts….

She was confused at his sudden invitation for friendship……The Arjun sir, she knew never believed in friendship nor had any friends, in her knowledge….though Arjun sir and Rathod sir's behavior puzzled her at times, she never had the chance to get to the roots of it……She had felt a deep bonding between them lying entangled behind that presumed or rather pretended estranged relationship….else why would 2 complete strangers share so much cold vibes for no reason at all….So there was something she didn't know but never got to know……
So this proposal for friendship seemed clichd to her initially….
Was he trying a round about way to come into her life? But then, another part of her longed for grabbing that hand at once and bringing him into her life as a close dear one because she knew deep down that he would make a great friend, someone whom she wanted at this time of crisis!…..
A friend with whom she could talk about anything under the sun…..She needed that kind of a friend now….She had been dying to have such a friend for years now…..There were times in her life when she was totally lonely and didn't have a soul to listen to her rantings patiently…….
She had distanced herself from the rest of the world and was living a secluded life in a fear of being judged….but even then, she longed for a companion at times when her heart cried out but there was no one to hear her out…..Her tears were endless and her cries were silent...but the sound of her silent cries were unbearable to her….the silence and loneliness always scared her like two demons! She even feared her own shadow at such times…..
She always wished for someone who would hear her out silently without judging her…who would lend their ears to her without advicing her….Advices were the last thing she needed……it never helped her….rather it only hurt her more……She was fed up the elders in her family giving her suggestions and advices to patch up with Suraj……She had literally run away from home because of that and avoided all such possibilities of meeting who knew her and her life's problems as mush as possible!
But now, the hand which was stretched out to her direction was Arjun's……who better could be her friend….a friend who knew her, understood her and respected her…She didn't think again for she feared that she would decline him if she thought once more over that….She gave her hand and nodded….."hmmm"
Arjun was sure that she would accept his hand for friendship….he knew that she badly needed a friend now….a friend who could give her the comfort and heal her shattered heart…a friend who could be a good listener without judging her…..
"ab utto aur fresh ho jaao….maine dinner order kiya hai…..aatha hi hoga!"
Riya looked at him puzzled…..
Arjun: [understanding her unasked question] hum dono ne party mein kuch nahi khaaya….isiliye socha ke kuch order kar loom……
Riya was hungry too after all that emotional outpour and exhaustion…..Emotions and sentiments were always tiresome!….She didn't protest….she just nodded and went to her room to get changed…..

10 mins later, she stepped out and walked into the dining area where Arjun had already laid out the pizza packets…..
Her eyes opened widely at first seeing her once favorite food but the very next second she spoke up with a frown "main pizza nahi khaati sir…"
Arjun looked up taken aback by her unexpected announcement…"Kya? Mujhe toh laga ke yeh tumaari favorite hai…"
Riya: favorite tha…its been ages since I have…
Arjun cut her short "tab toh tumhe yeh poora ka poora khaana chahiye…."
Riya: [remembering something and slumped on the chair looking lost again] suraj ko pasand nahi ke main yeh sab junk food khaaoom….usska order tha ke main humesha healthy food loom….aur apne body ko….[she stopped as her voice cracked up again…there was disgust hidden in her voice as she came to that]
Arjun clenched his jaws and balled his fist in anger….how dare he controls and orders her like that??….but he spoke up in a controlled voice
"tum kabse apne pasand na pasand ko baakiyon keliye bathalne lagi Riya??….waise bhi tumaare pehchaan aur individuality kisi keliye nahi chodhne chahiye…..agar harr kisike isaab se apne aap ko bathalogi toh…."
Riya: [cutting him short] Suraj harr koyi nahi tha na Sir? wasn't he important enough in my life?? [that hurt somewhere but he controlled again!! He had been doing it quite often these days especially when it concerned Riya!] waise bhi pehchaan nahi chodhna chaaha, aur isiliye aaj main yahaan hoom sir! Warna….[she became silent and looked at him]
Arjun: [looks at her trying to read her mind and then tries to change the topic] agar tumhe yeh waaqayi mein pasand nahi hai, toh main force nahi karunga…..let me order something else….
Riya smiled weakly at Arjun's changed and controlled behavior….She knew that he was trying his best to make her feel better……She spoke up "nahi….usski zaroorat nahi…..I will eat this…."
Arjun smiles at her change of decision and sits down next to her and serves her a piece…..and takes one too….He remembers the last time they had the pizza together, the day they met for the very first time and the entire funny situation came running to his mind…a smile cropped up thinking about that encounter but it faded off soon!….
How different and funny was it? Quite opposite to the way they were having it now….He snapped out and decided to play along and make an attempt to get her to that lively form again!
Arjun had purposefully sliced the pizza into an odd number of pieces…..and now just one piece was left!
Though Riya had said that she doesn't like eating pizzas now, when she had the first bite, all her taste buds came back alive to her…..She relished it as she used to do always……She had obeyed Suraj at that point just because she didn't want to make a big issue out of it….it was tough for her to do away with her favorites and change her likes and dislikes but for the sake of the relationship, she decided to compromise and do adjustments!
But now that it was all over, why mull over it and ignore her dormant likes….So she enjoyed every bite of it but in a more subtle manner…..She didn't show out how much she enjoyed it! But Arjun was able to read that hidden joy in her face…..He felt happy and relieved a bit!
As she brought her hand forward to pick the last piece while she was munching on the last bit of the piece she already held in hand, she felt her hand on top of his hand…he was quick to pose as if he wanted it….Riya felt the touch and looked up and realized that he also wanted that piece….
She withdrew her hand immediately and mumbled a "sorry….woh maine dekha nahi.."
Arjun knew that her reaction would be this but never mind, atleast she made an attempt to take the last piece…"nahi tum le lo…..tumhe last piece bohat pasand hai na??"
He had seen her often fighting for the last piece of it whenever the trio Shree-Riya-Chotu had a pizza treat at ETF…..Their funny moments were endless and Arjun was always a silent viewer of it….From the glass cubicle, he used to see Riya fighting with them for it…..And many times, he had also heard her reasoning it "woh kya hai na? Last piece humesha tasty hota hai! aur jab competition ho toh usse jeeth ke khaane ka mazaa hi kuch aur hai guys!" she used to grin widely and snatch it from them when they were endorsed in her logics…..
Riya didn't bring her hand back…instead, she got up from her chair "nahi bas…ho gaya….aap khaa lijiye sir!"
Saying that, she walked away into the kitchen with her plate without waiting for his response….
Arjun looked at her retreating back "ek din zaroor last piece keliye mujhse ladogi Riya...yeh mera vaadha hai tumse, apne aapse!"

He finished it up just for the sake of not wasting it and walked behind her to the kitchen….
Once done with the plates, he returns first to the living room……He had settled on the sofa by the time, she comes back after closing the kitchen for the day…..
Arjun wanted to talk to her in a more casual manner and get her talking to him more freely and in a friendly way….he didn't know what to talk about….his natural instincts made him ask the obvious "ghar pe sab kaise hai??" [He regretted the question once he shot it out]
Riya: [sitting on the couch and looking up at him] hmmm…they are fine….kal baat hui thi ma aur papa se…..meri choti behen ke shaadi fix hui hai….dho hafte mein engagement hai!
Arjun: [her reply made him a bit more confident about the topic] ohhh….thats great news! You don't worry…..Rathod se baat karke leave sanction karwaana mera responsibility….ok?
Riya: [puzzled] leave?? Kyun??
Arjun: [surprised] tumhe engagement mein jaana hai na?
Riya: [sternly without looking at him] nahi….i am not going Sir….
Arjun: ziddh chodo Riya…ab itne pyar se bulaaya hai toh….mera matlab phir se unke saat relationship teek karne ka accha maukha hai na? tumhe zaroor jaana chahiye!
Riya: [posing a sad smile at him] aap aaj kal mazaak bohat karne lage ho sir! They don't want me there….isiliye phone karke bathaa rahe teh ke main galthi se bhi wahaan naa….[her words trailed off leaving the rest to his comprehension….] waise bhi accha hi hai….zaroor Suraj wahaan hoga….shaayad ek betae ke tarah….[tears rolled down her cheeks as she completed that!]
Arjun didn't know how to console her…..but he knew what he should do to make her feel better…he told to himself "tum zaroor wahaan jaavogi Riya…. Main tumhe le jaavunga!"
After a long hour of silence….Arjun got up to leave…."bohat dher hogayi hai….main nikhaltha hoom….kal office mein milenge.."
They walked out together….Riya stood at the door "bye sir…good night!"
Arjun: bye….take care!
He drived off and Riya closed the door and went in…..

From a little distance, a man who was watching this digs out his phone from his pocket and dials a number "hello saab"
Someone spoke up from the other side….in a drunken voice "haan bolo…kya khabar hai?"
Man: saab, woh aadhmi abhi abhi Riya memsaab ke ghar se nikhla hai!"
The voice on the other side spoke up [looking at his watch, it showed 11:45 PM] accha teek hai….aise hi nazar rakhna aur samay samay pe mujhe inform karthe rehna!
[On the other side, Suraj cut the call in anger "pati vratha aurat…my foot! Divorce hua nahi aur apne deewaane ke saat…..Shit! isski kheemat toh tum dono ko chukhaana padega Riya darling!"]

Unaware of the evil plans cooking up in his devilish mind, two hearts are peaceful and calm after the stormy times…..At peace due to the new found friendship…..calm hoping for a new and better begininning!
