Tiger Shroff's 'Baaghi 4' continues to stumble as 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' steals the show

The initial data suggests that Baaghi 4 may end up as the lowest-earning title in its series. But, the upcoming weekdays will make it clear if the film stays consistent or not.

Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi series has usually drawn strong business at the ticket counters. After the underwhelming run of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, there was hope pinned on his latest outing. Three days in, Baaghi 4 has managed to bring in collections but not at the scale the earlier parts had set.

The film has made Rs 31.25 crore across its opening weekend. While this ensures a presence at the box office, the gap between this and the franchise’s past numbers is striking.

The Weekend Numbers

The A. Harsha-directed film opened on Friday with Rs 12 crore. Expectations of growth during the weekend were present, but the second day brought in Rs 9.25 crore, which was a fall of around 23 percent compared to the first day. On Sunday, the film recorded Rs 10 crore, taking the three-day total to Rs 31.25 crore in India.

Compared to earlier installments, the outcome is muted. Baaghi 2 had crossed Rs 73 crore in the same timeframe, and Baaghi 3 managed Rs 53.83 crore. By that yardstick, the latest entry is behind its predecessors.

Impact of Festival and Discount Strategy

The timing of Ganesh Visarjan contributed to a drop on Saturday. Anticipating a setback due to festivities, the makers introduced a 50 percent price reduction on tickets. This decision was rolled out from Saturday and stayed active on Sunday as well. The move ensured that numbers did not fall further, but even with the strategy, the climb was limited.

Trade trackers noted that despite the discounted pricing, Baaghi 4 could not push its momentum. Sunday’s collections stood marginally higher than Saturday, but not enough to show weekend growth.

Screen Count and Footfall

On the distribution front, Baaghi 4 had a wide release. In the National Capital Region, it was allotted 792 screens, and here it secured about 31 percent occupancy. Mumbai, with 549 screens, reported a turnout of close to 24 percent. Across India on Sunday, the occupancy was about 27 percent overall, with evening shows witnessing the highest turnout at roughly 37 percent.

These figures indicate that while the film was widely available, the pull at the theatres was not uniform. Regional differences in viewership patterns became evident, with some territories showing more interest than others.

Hollywood Competition With Strong Hold

At the same time, The Conjuring: Last Rites opened in India and offered stiff competition. The film began its run with Rs 18 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 17.5 crore on Saturday. What stands out is that while Baaghi 4 attributed its Saturday dip to Ganesh Visarjan, Last Rites sustained almost the same collections despite the same circumstance.

Sunday saw a decline for the Hollywood release as well, which is natural after two strong days, but it still outpaced Baaghi 4. This shows that the audience prioritised the horror title over the action sequel, even during the festival period.

The Road Ahead

The Monday test now becomes crucial. Both Baaghi 4 and The Conjuring: Last Rites will face weekday drops. The degree of fall will determine whether Baaghi 4 can stabilise at a certain level or if the slide continues. For Tiger Shroff, the film’s performance holds weight as it follows his last film’s poor reception.

For the producers, the challenge is to maintain steady returns over the next week before the next round of releases take over.
