PART V
-That Night-
Dadi was pondering on how to get Anjali to believe her, when she heard a knock on the door. She looked up to see Khushi standing there; fear etched on her face.
Dadi smiled. "Come in bitiya..."
She came in with a glass of milk. "Th-This is for you Dadiji..." Khushi said, handing the glass to her.
Dadi frowned. "Bitiya, in this condition you should not be moving about so much. Go to your room and relax. You should have just asked Hari Prakash to send it to me..."
Khushi's mouth fell open in shock. "Dadiji, you-"
Dadi silenced her. "I wronged you a lot. Forgive me."
"Arey Dadiji...! You are som much older to me! Please don't embarass me!" Khushi exclaimed, shocked.
Dadi smiled. "Everyone makes mistakes. Now you go and sleep."
"Ji Dadiji..." Khushi said, and left.
Dadi had her milk, and looked up to see Anjali walking in with a black, sleek box in her hand.
"Bitiya, I-"
"Don't say anything Dadi. I thought of what you said... You are right. He is a bad man." Anjali whispered.
Dadi looked at her, as Anjali opened the sleek, black box which was actually a laptop. Anjali hit a few buttons and turned it towards Dadi. Confused, Dadi looked at the screen. Her blood boiled at what she saw... Shyam changing the meds...Shyam fiddling with the circuits... Shyam laying the glass pieced on a doormat on which Anjali stepped on few moments later...
-Sometime Later-
"Damaadji, come with me..." Dadi said. She walked to the car, and Shyam followed puzzled. As soon as they had entered the car, Mohan drove on; Dadi had already instructed him on where to take her. The car stopped abruptly, making Shyam curious. Where was he? He got out, and his blood froze as he took in the familiar surroundings...
"Recognized it Damaadji?" Dadi asked from behind him. She saw a lady wearing a green saree walk past; when she saw Shyam, she gave him a cold stare, and asked, "Why are you here again? You cheated the Guptas, Khushi bitiya and your wife..."
"V-Vimlaji, I-" Vimla noticed Dadi, and mumbling an apology to Dadi, walked away.
"Dadiji, I-" Shyam started.
"ENOUGH!" Dadi said, holding her hand up. "DONOT weave more lies. I know it all. And I am warning you...You ever come near my family again, I will show you the devil in me. And Don't even think of laying a hand on my grandson's pregnant wife, and also come nowhere near my granddaughter."
Shyam was pissed and infuriated. "Old Hag! You cannot do anything to me! I will finish you off right now!" Shyam snarled, bringing his hands closer to Dadi. "It won't be difficult. Took care of Shashiji, and of my own daughter...Now its your-" He was cut of be firm hand planting itself across its face. Heat rose.
He looked up and his eyes widened at the sight. "SHE WAS only MY daughter!" Anjali screamed into his face. "NO WAY COULD SHE EVER BE YOURS!" She lifted her hand to slap him again, and Shyam felt another band of heatwave across his face.
Anjali stood there in front of him. Arnav stood behind her, with a calming hand on her shoulder. Both were surrounded by police, who took a screaming Shyam into custody.
"Its all over now Di." Arnav whispered.
"Forgive me Arnav" Dadi said pleadingly.
"Lets go home..." Anjali said.
-RM-
Everyone was rejoicing...Shyam was gone. Dadi would now stay here; Arnav was happy. His family was complete again...!
"Arnav?" Dadi called him, and beckoned him to follow her.
Arnav obeyed. "No need to tell Khushi bitiya..." Dadi said, as soon as they were out of earshot.
"What?" Arnav asked.
"About Garima..." Dadi said.
Arnav nodded in agreement.
Some secrets are best left buried...
-9 Months Later...A Sunday Morning...-
Taking Dadi's support, Khushi came down the staircase, trying not to wince at the pain her lower back gave her; a small frown on her face would have the entire house attending to her. As she settled comfortably on to the sofa, Payal handed her a glass of milk.
As soon as Khushi brought the glass to her lips, she felt a pain rip through her stomach, making her drop the glass. The sound of shattering glass was followed by Khushi's piercing scream.
"Khushi Bitiya!" Dadi and Nani said at the same time.
Payal rushed to her side, taking her head in her lap. "Khushi! It'll be okay...It'll be okay...!" Khushi's screaming did not cease.
"Akash! Call the doctor!" Payal screamed as loudly as she could. Akash rushed out from his bedroom and looked down at the hall. Grasping the scene, he immediately took his phone out.
Arnav was finally glad to be back home...He would see Khushi, his refreshing air, after a tiring day at office. Smiling, he parked the car and walked towards the house. It was when he was a few meters away from the door, when he heard her screams. Fear gripped Arnav, as his walk turned into a sprint and he stormed into RM.
What he saw terrified him... Khushi was lying in Payal's lap and screaming in agony; her pale yellow kurta was beginning to stain in blood. Nani looking at Akash who was talking on the phone; probably to the Doctor, and Di was fanning Khushi's face. Dadi tried to wipe the sweat off of Khushi's face, as she writhed in pain while Mamiji was peeking over Payal's shoulder, looking at the Phatti Saadi anxiously... He ran to Khushi, and gathered her in his arms; Payal let her go without a word. Trying to stay strong through her screams, he nuzzled his cheek into her hair, murmuring soothing words as he walked out of the house with her in his arms.
The rest of the family took cue and followed him. Arnav set her in his SUV with Anjali at the back. The rest of the family followed with Akash.
Hospital-
"Push Mrs Raizada..." the mid-wife instructed. "Try harder"
Khushi's screams had ceased, but not the pain...Past six hours of labour pain had made her used to the pain. She was aware of nothing except the body-numbing pain and Arnav's feather touch on her hands.
She was breathing hard, murmuring his name all the while as he comforted her. The rest of the family was outside. The pain became too intense, and soon, Khushi blacked out.
Arnav panicked as he felt Khushi go limp, but the doctor assured him that there was no danger.
"But why was she bleeding so much? And why hasn't she delivered yet? Is it because she hasn't had her meds properly? That must be it, cuz she is so careless..." he ranted. The doctor watched him amused.
"Mr Raziada, she had her delivery a week before the expected date. I'm sorry, but you have to leave now..." she said apologetically.
Arnav walked out reluctantly. He began pacing up and down the corridor, oblivious to his family's eyes. He heard the room open, and rushed to the nurse who walked out, followed by the doctor. "How is she doctor? and my child?"
The doctor smiled. "She is fine Mr Raizada. And no child..." the doctor whispered.
Arnav's face went pale, and he heard his family gasp. Anjali had already began crying. "No child? What...Why?"
The doctor smiled wider. "Don't worry. Its not child, its children. Congrats Mr Raizada. You are the father of two lovely twin girls!"
