Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur’s upcoming film Son of Sardaar 2 is nearing its release date of August 1, 2024, but the film is reportedly running into distribution roadblocks. With two other strong contenders currently dominating theatres, securing sufficient screen count has become a challenge.
As per a Pinkvilla report, theatre chains, particularly PVR Inox, are finding it difficult to allocate space for Son of Sardaar 2, especially across single screens and non-national multiplexes. This comes at a time when Ahaan Panday’s Saiyaara continues to pull in audiences well into its third week. Theatre owners are reportedly reluctant to reduce its showtimes due to consistent turnout.
Meanwhile, Mahavatar Narsimha is picking up steam at the box office, further narrowing the room for new releases. With both existing titles maintaining strong traction, Son of Sardaar 2 is finding itself squeezed for space.
Releasing on the same day, Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is approaching the situation differently. The makers are said to be rolling out the film more selectively, focusing on high-performing urban centres rather than pushing for a wide nationwide launch. The film is expected to open on around 1,000 screens, aiming for gradual expansion depending on public response.
“The approach is similar to what Dharma Productions used with Kesari 2. They are relying on audience feedback to grow over the weekend. The concern lies with Son of Sardaar 2, which was targeting over 3,500 screens, but may be limited to around 2,500 due to screen-sharing constraints,” the report added.

With intense competition from ongoing hits and another new release, Son of Sardaar 2 may have to navigate a more limited launch than originally planned. Final screen counts and showcasing details will likely depend on last-minute exhibitor decisions in the days leading up to its release.
