PART 11

Hospital corridor

Nupur sitting alone near the doctors chamber. She dialled the phone a few times and cut it angrily.

' pata nahin yeh mayank kahaan gaya. jaantha hain ki aaj doctor e saath appointment hain. Jee tho kartha hain ki us laptop ko goli maar doon, aisa chipkaa rehtha hain ki laptop nahin koi pyaari si girlfriend ho' and stopped her mind running in leaps and bounds ,' kahin sach mein koi...' she hit her head,' chup kar nupur. Kya kya sochthi rehthi ho'

She looked around to see a few couples sitting and waiting, there were a few women with their mothers .

' dekha , koi akela nahin aatha yahaan' and her eyes fell on a mother –daughter pair,' waise gunjan ko bulaathi tho aajaathi' and she turned her eyes away. nurse came and called her.

"main kya baad mein jaa sakthi hoon. mere husband nahin aaye abhi tak."

"phir se appointment lena padega, wait karsakthe ho tho karo aur do ganta" She said impatiently

The mother of the mother daughter pair came nearer and told nupur," tum beta hamare appointment ke time pe chalejaana. Exchange karthe hain, kyun sister?" the nurse grumbled ," kya sister, thoda adjust karo na. Abhi humko jaane do aur hamare number par is ladki ko jaane do." She followed the nurse calling her daughter and turned back to nupur, gave a friendly wave and smile and disappeared.

Nupurs eyes turned moist and she sat staring at the door of the doctors chamber into which the lady had walked in suddenly missing one other lady whom she hardly remembered and hardly ever thought of but somehow seemd all important.

"Nupur" mayank came panting and shook her. She turned to him and saw him through a haze of tears," kya hua? Tum ro kyun rahe ho?"

Her resentment at mayank coming late resurfaced as soon a she realised that he was in front of her," jaldi aagaye?"

"sorry nupur, kaam karthe karthe time ka pata nahin chala."

The nurse came out and called nupur. MN got up and just as they entered in, the lady smiled at them walking out behind her daughter.

" yeh dekho" the doctor proclaimed showing something on the scan screen.

"kahaan?" nupur squinted while mayan pretended that he knew what he was seeing.

"yahaan" she pointed to something , nupur stared at it with curiosity , her expressions changing to one of doubt.

"wahin hain kya?" she looked at mayank and saw th doubt mirrored in his eyes.

The doctor smiled understandingly," its ok. Next time achha sa dekhega" she said turning to nupur as nupur got down from the stool, " sab teek hain. tumhaara weight ka khyal rakhna bas."

"kyun kam hain?"

"kam hain? jitna tum khaa rahin ho uske hisaaf se tho..." mayan started scolding her

"nahin, actually weight teek hain. na kam hain na zyaada", doctor looked at mayank," tablets sab.."

"ji doctor. Aur mujhe koi tests ..." nupur looked at him frustrated at his stubbornness.

"doctor kya baap banne ke sadma itna bura hota hain?" he had his typical frown

Smiling, the doctor said," if you insist, tho leejiye" handing him some forms," yeh sab aapke liye"

Mayank picked them up looking relieved and thanking the doctor, the two of them left.

Car

Nupur looking pukish and mayank driving spoke up

"thank god ke sab tests ka result normal tha."

"mayank, tum normal ho , itna pareshaan kyun horahe ho? aur tum kal aake apna results nahin lesakthe the? Mujhe us canteen mein itna dher tak bitaake chalegaye. Kitna badhboo tha wahaan machalighar ki tarah."

"tumhe tho fish pasand hain"

She glanced at him angrily," tumhe na mayank mera koi khayal nahin hain. aaj bhi late aaye.."

"dekho nupur," he cut her short," last time main kehrahaan hoon, mujhe kaam khatam karna hain tho main karoonga. Tum wahin baar baar kyun complain karrahin ho? aur main aaya na time pe?"

Both were quiet, nupur fuming and mayank annoyed at her repeated complaints. Nupurs mobile rang.

"haan gunjan bol...haan sab teek hi hain...haan tumhaare JIJU pahunchgaye TIME PE" she looked at mayan as she said these stressing," achha wo chod yeh bolo, wahaan ka kya haal hain? ...aur samrat ne kya kahaan?...wo paagal hain kya?...waise mujhse poochon tho saare ke saare mard paagal hain uday bhaiyya ko chodke...chal teek hain. good night. Tu zyaada soch mat sab teek hojaayega" she smiled and cut the call.

After waiting a few seconds for her to erupt, mayank sighed and asked," kya hua?"

"kuch nahin."

"bolona nupur. Itna bhi kya gussa? Okay meri galthi hain, sorry." He held one of his ears with his hand showing his dimples and weakening her anger.

"kyun tumhe nahin pata?" he shook his head,"wahin gunjan ke honewaali saasumaa ne samrat ko france bhulaya tha na tho usne mana kardiya. Aur aaj unhonein phone bhi kiya tho unse samrat ne teek se baat nahin ki. Saare ke saare..."

"samrat ke mom ne ...kab? tumne mujhe bataya kyun nahin?"

"arre , tumhe tho samrat sab kuch pehle bata deta haina. Aur waise bhi main batana chaahoo tho kab batathi ?" nupur replied acidly but catching his thoughtful expressions," kya hua mayank?

He shook his head thinking how samrat hadn't told him at all. Waise main bhi busy tha but mayank sharma itna busy? Tumhaari wife ka appointment bhoolne jitna? Aur tumhaari best friend se baat kiye hue kitne din hogaya hain? Us din ke baad tho mile bhi nahin' he remembered the day in samrats cabin.

"mayank kya hua? ghar aagaya hain" nupurs concerned voice made his heart contract

"wo samrat se bohot din se nahin mila "

"by god mayank, tum usko itna miss kar rahe ho? " she burst out laughing,"roz tho milthe ho college mein , wo kaunsa doosre desh mein rehtha hain?" and got out of the car. He sat watching her as she had a smile on her face wondering why he was so worried all the time. Sudden scream brought him out of his thoughts.

MN house- nupur hugging shilpa tight and screaming out loud

MAA... aap kab aayi?

Shilpa ," mera kaan nupur. Itna chillaogi tho main abhi se deaf hojaaoongi aur tumhaare bachhe ki rone ki awaaz nahin sun paaoongi." nupur still held her," chodo , koi kya apne saas o itne pyaar se pakadtha hain?"

"wo bhi teek hi hain. mujhe aapse itna gussa hain main bata nahin sakthi! aaj tho mujhe apni maa ki itni buri tarah se yaad aarahin thi ki... " nupur replied her heart in her eyes maing shilpa glance at her guiltily.

"sorry beta . lekin is baar sachha promise hain," she stroked nupurs cheeks , cutting her short apologetically and held her hand to her ear reminding nupur of mayank," main apna contract khatam kardoongi aur yahaan rehne aajaaoongi. Bas 4-5 mahine aur. " nupur smiled," mera bhi dil hi nahin lagtha hain kaam mein aajkal. Lekin main isse naaraz hoon" she said turning to mayank who was smiling next to nupur.

"maa, tum bhi?" and still smiling mayank gave his mother a hug which though pretending to be angry, she returned back. He felt his worries lessen, his heart lighten at her holding him.

"chodo Mr mayank sharma. Yaad bhi hain ki ek bichaari si boodi maa hain tumhari? Kya karthe rehthe ho itna kuch?" she asked him ruffling his hair , he by habit moving back and frowning at her.

(All of them walking to the sofa) nupur started," kya krtha hain? yeh poocheye ki kya nahin kartha ? maa aapko pata bhi hain aap kiske maa ho? SUPERMAN ki " ticking on her fingers," college mein professor hain, apne USwaale company ka documentation, apna hi kuch project khatam karrahaan hain taaki wo doosra start karsakhe , kuch business jiske baare muhe tho kuch bhi samaj nahin aatha aur gunjan ke shaadi ke tayaariyaan. Haan kuch aage padne ke liye paper work bhi complete kardiya hain isne." She said involuntary bitterness creeping in," bas ." not saying in words that he had no time for her but her last look at him said as much.

shilpa turned from one to the other her sharp concerned watchful eyes understanding the underlying tensions between them. Mayank looked on uncomfortably ," maa..." but his phone rang and he went out receiving it," hello . hi michelle!"

shilpa looked at nupur questioningly." Wo? Mayank ki USwaali aunty hain!"

"aunty?"

"mayank ki boss. actually daadi ki umar ki hain tho safe hain " she grinned

Shilpa laughed at her but caught the slight wistfulness in nupur.

"nupur , achhi lagrahin ho! ab bolo tumhe kuch khaane ka mann hain? main kal raat tak hoon yahaan " she hugged her again, making nupur thank her own mother for sending a replacement.

fiza please let me know too- im getting all muddled up in mayanks thoughts!😃

can always count on mayank's mom to play cupid for mayur so im excited for her entry 😃...plus i love her anyways!..mayank understands everything in his head but why is he so slow to act on those thoughts and fix things when he's wrong?...sure nupur is a nautanki but it wouldnt hurt for him to show at least some concern or care towards her...of course inside he cares for her but when he knows shes insecure about this whole baby thing, he should provide her with affection...i think he just needs to talk his fears out...usually samrat helps him with that but since theyre not talking right now, i hope he does so with his mom 😊
