PART 6

"This is not good."

"What?"

"Maan, your BP is high, you are always stressed. What is going on?"

"Come on Doc, you know me," Maan said dismissing what the doctor was saying.

"Maan I know it is difficult coming from army and adjusting here, but you are taking your new job too much seriously. Being in police is not easy, I know."

"Please Doc."

"Okay. I am just saying take it easy."

"Whatever you say," Maan replied.

"Everything else is fine. Just take care and don't stress yourself much."

Maan nodded and made his way towards the parking to take his car. As he was coming out of the hospital, while driving, he got a call on his phone.

He looked at the caller and then picked up.

"Hey Naintara, I just came out."

"Hi Maan. Can you please come back again?"

"Why? Is everything okay?"

"I have a small case in the hospital, a missing person. I can't let it go out. It will harm the hospital's reputation. Can you please come and have a look?"

"Yeah sure. I'll be there in a moment." Maan kept his mobile down and again went towards the hospital.

After entering in the hospital, he is greeted by Naintara, who takes him towards the security room where Geet is, telling him what she knows.

As soon as Maan enters, he is shocked to see Geet there.

"Geet? What are you doing here?"

Naintara interrupts before Geet says anything, "She is the one whose boyfriend is missing."

Maan looks at Geet and says, "Geet, please relax and tell me what the matter is."

Geet then looks at him, nods and begins to say everything, "My boyfriend, Dev Kapoor, had a surgery scheduled today, ACL. We came around 7.15. His surgery was scheduled at 8 with Dr. Verma today. A nurse Nandini came to the room, 401, and took the details. After that I came to grab a cup of coffee, waiting for the announcement to be made, but then there was none. I asked the nurse on reception, but they did not have them in their system."

After listening to her, Naintara looked at Maan and said, "Dr. Verma is on leave. He is out on a vacation. And the nurse Nandini, we don't have any nurse of that name."

Geet is worried, turns to Maan and says, "Maan, I am worried that something might have happened to him."

Maan thinks for a while and says, "Let me see what I can do. We can't file a missing persons' report before 24 hours."

Before he says anything further, Naintara says, "Her boyfriend might have walked out on her."

Geet gets angry listening to this but keeps her calm.

Maan then asks her, "How long have you been in this relationship?"

Geet replied, "4 months."

Naintara says, "Maybe your relation was not…you know…"

Maan looks at Naintara, then says, "Do you have any picture of your boyfriend?"

Geet looked at him and said, "Yes, I do. But they are at home." She then starts to think and starts looking in her purse. "Wait, I think I have one in my mobile." She takes out her mobile and quickly opens the picture and shows to them.

(Please imagine Geet and Dev in this. Their picture is on the sunset, where you cannot make out their faces clearly.)

All of them gave a look to each other, as if asking can you identify the faces.

Geet looks at them and understands what is going on in their minds and says, "I know you all must be thinking you can't see the face, but if you look closely you can see us."

"Geet, can you give me a description, as to how he looks?" Maan says before Geet could continue further.

Geet nods and say, "He is 6 feet, about 85 kgs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a red and white striped hoodie jacket over a grey t-shirt. He is wearing a crutch on his left leg."

Naintara interrupts and says, "Security has seen no one with this description."

Maan nods his head, turns towards Geet and says, "You wait here. I will go and search."

"Thanks a lot Maan."

Maan then leaves her there and goes to find out about Dev.

PART 7

Maan then went out of the room. First he went to look at the board where all the scheduled surgeries are written.

He looked at the name of the patients and the doctor, but could not find either Dev's or the doctor's name.

He then went towards the orthopaedic wing and was continuously asking everyone, be it ward boys or nurses.

"Have you seen a male about 6 feet tall, wearing a brace…."

"Hi, have you seen a man wearing a striped red and white jacket….."

"Have you seen a man wearing a brace…."

Geet is still there in the security room trying to figure out what to do.

Maan then reached the orthopaedic wing and asked the reception there.

"Did you see a man here in the morning, wearing a brace in his leg? He came here for a surgery."

The receptionist replied, "Sir, this wing is closed for renovation. There are no patients here. We had shifted everyone to another hospital."

"You mean to say that there is no one in this area."

The receptionist nods as a yes.

Maan then goes towards the room where Geet had said they came. He looked but found nothing.

A nurse suddenly came there and asked, "Can I help you?"

Maan looks at her and says, "Have you seen anyone here in this room in the morning for a surgery?"

The nurse says, "Surgery? No Sir. This area is under renovation, so no patient is allowed here."

Maan then asks her, "Do you know a nurse named Nandini?"

"No Sir. There is no one of this name."

"Are you sure?"

"I am the head nurse. I would know."

Maan was not even sure what is going on. He again started to search in different wings. He was looking at records in the computer, asking people about Dev, have they seen a man with the clothes that Dev was wearing. Nothing was making sense, it was like the man did not even exist.

In the security room, the security guy went out for a few minutes, leaving Geet all alone there.

Geet then begins to think something, picks up her mobile and calls Meera.

"Hey Geet, what happened? Surgery over?"

"Meera listen, Dev is missing."

"Geet, what are you talking about?"

"I haven't seen him; he is not in the hospital's computer system."

"Maybe he…."

Geet says in a firm tone, "He did NOT leave me."

"Geet…"

"I have been waiting for him. I am not going to let him be taken away from me."

Meera gets worried for her friend. She does not know what to say.

Geet again speaks, "All here are acting strange. Something suspicious is going on here."

"Geet what do you want me to do. Should I call someone?"

"No, that's not necessary. Just, please, keep calling me every half hour. If I don't answer….then come here."

She cuts her call and is looking at the book which she gave to Dev in the morning. She then remembers something. She takes a paper and a pencil and starts sketching by keeping the paper on the book. She then sees Kartar entering the room.

Geet asks Kartar, "What is going on?"

"Detective is looking."

Geet gets up and says, "I should also go and look."

Kartar stops her and says, "I can't let you walk like this in the hospital, and scaring the patients."

Maan then enters the room and asks Geet, "What does he do?"

Geet answers, "He is in insurance."

"Family?"

"I know about her mom, but she lives abroad. He put down her number in my phone. Wait, you needed evidence that is real, here I will tell you…."

Geet then takes her purse and starts looking frantically in it, in order to find her phone. As she is looking, a small plastic bottle falls from it.

Maan picks it up and sees what it is. He says, "Anti-depressants?"

Karatar looks at it and says, "That says it all."
