Part 28:

Having returned to Mumbai, the first thing which Mayank and Nupur sorted out was to let Varun know that he was no more required to leave his own house and study in a boearding school.

It came as a confused shock for him when Mayank announced it to him. What in turn shocked Mayank and Nupur both was the fact that Varun wasn't too sure if he liked the plan too much. He had liked it there, the disciplined life, the self-suffciency which he for the first time felt at this age but couldn't quite describe it as independence; his new friends, his new sports team.

Nupur only got embarrassed when Mayank looked from Varun to Nupur, confused.

Later, Mayank took a stand for Varun, again as always and strangely so for Nupur this once that he would get to do and choose whatever he wanted to do. It was rather a completely different scenario for Mayank and it was rather a completely different one for Varun now.People have different stands and views for the same thing in life. No doubt they were still confused, a bit taken aback and a bit sad, but somehow they were trying to let that sink in when Varun came in smiling to them.

Varun had been confused too when he said all that to his parents, it was obvious for his age. He had left his friends once here, his parents too and had missed them all so much and now when he had finally made new friends, he was being asked to get all the old best people of his life back. He was confused but he voiced out his words, just to let his parents know this time clearly what he wanted and to know too what they wanted.

One thing which he was sure of was he felt like he was back to his fun life once again since he had come back.

Mayank had sent him away while he wanted to talk to Nupur about it.

He went away to play with his older friends now, who were still cordial to him. It was extremely joyful to see your best of friends miss you too while you missed them, it showed on their face. One of his more talkative friends Isha came upto him and declared to him that - now they wouldn't ever want to force him to be a part of the things that he did want to be, she wouldn't do it too if he wanted, but he shouldn't be no more be with them now. It was completely her trait to speak out the deepest feelings and the most innocent feeling of her, just like that without waiting for anyone to take over the situation. Varun looked at the others and they called it a truce too.

He was extremely happy and he came running, after his quota of games were done for the day, and went straight to his Mom.

She listened to him smiling while she couldn't help feeling still emotional over the decision they had decided to make, she just couldn't yet jerk herself up to accept it. Still she listened to Varun very calmly and was very happy that things had finally fallen into place for Varun once again as they were before.

She kept quite again, not wanting to make Varun realize that he himself had decided to let go of it all. But then, it wasn't his fault, when children took time to detach themselves, they also took time to attach themselves and Varun had got attached so soon in his new school, it must mean something to him, she consoled herself.

When Mayank was around, she decided to ask Varun once again if he really wanted to go back to his new school, she wondered if she should be authoritive again to decide for him or still she should listen to Mayank and help Varun in his choices, though and early age it was for that.

When she asked, Varun made a more confused face than he had earlier and he looked at Mayank and Nupur and declared, "May be Mom… I'll miss you'll more than my new school...my friends too…do YOU want me go back?"

Nupur hurried towards him and hugged him relieved and smiling said, "No…No…No! I want you to stay back here"….and added laughing" so that I can give you a full glass of milk everyday which I am sure you would skip every day otherwise…"She laughed and so did Mayank and Varun pulled back and said, "Mom!...Milk is very uncool you know..."

Nupur laughed and asked, "Who taught you that?"

Varun didn't answer and looked at Mayank for support; Mayank raised his hands up defensively, "Hey I have forgotten how it tastes, don't look at me!"

Varun laughed too but looked at Nupur complainigly and she said pulling his cheeks, "You can skip you milk for today….Mind you, just for TODAY! Okay?"

Varun smiled and went away before Nupur changed her mind before he announced, "Mom, I'll go to Gunjan maasi's home na tomorrow….?"

Nupur nodded in a 'yes' and off he went.

Mayank was so extremely happy after days and so was Nupur. She felt life can only be complete with your loved ones around otherwise every achievement, every progress, every dream would look incomplete - she knew it from long, only she felt it so much more now.

She looked at Mayank only to realize that Mayank he had realized it long ago. No wonder he was so mature always. He had seen such a harsh phase in his life at such an early age but hadn't ever let it shadow upon Nupur and Varun, making them feel that life really was like a fairy-tale. He had never included those bitterness in their life, or for that matter in his own too; no wonder he always seemed to have the most positive outlook, he really had the most positive outlook to life.

She decided that she now had to cook something in her mind so that he and his parents could actually remove all the differences that they had. Letting bygones be bygones and to forgive was another thing, but to change it into something more convenient and endearing was another. She was exactly looking for the second option; she just wished that she doesn't end up hurting anyone badly while in her process for the same.

When Mayank gestured her to ask what was she thinking about, she just ended up hugging him, no more questions asked then.

Mayank suddenly remembered something and walked up to Nupur who was setting up her new collection of accessories on her dressing table.

He talked to her mirror image, "Nupur, remember that day Varun had said that Riya had asked him about 'US', whether we talk to each other or whatever her question was?"

Nupur replied without looking up, "What about that?"

Mayank asked confused, "I mean, she works in my office right? How come you knew something about it and I didn't? I mean why did you hush me up then?"

Nupur smiled looking at his confused mirror image and replied, "Why are you asking about that now?"

Mayank crossed his arms and replied, "I just remembered! I had gone to apply for a project over here now and she was enquiring about you…do you know her well?"

Nupur laughed and got up from her place and winding her arms around Mayank, she said, "Mr. Sharma…you miss out on a lot, don't you?"

Mayank held her back and asked, "Really? Please explain!"

Nupur told him the entire story about what CJ had told her about Riya and what all happened minus the pang of jealousy that she had felt, flanked by a slight insecurity.

Mayank looked amused, he really had no idea what all went around him during those days; for the times he didn't work, he was worried, stressed, in his own world. He hadn't cared to notice all that, whoever Riya was trying to be for him.

Mayank replied teasingly, "You should be grateful to me, no? I could have utilized this opportunity well!"

Nupur's mouth fell open just for a microsecond before she replied, "Really! Like I did?"

Mayank could help blurting out, "You did what?"

Nupur laughed and said, "See I told you, you miss out on a lot of things around you"

Mayank gave her one of his special stern looks which she couldn't help surrendering to, "I utilized my opportunities well; of course, you see I have been promoted while you were away!"

Mayank felt a slight tinge of disappointment on missing out on her victorious moment; he had seen her planning about her steps of achievement in life where they would celebrate each of it together, whether it is hers or his. He decided he would have to plan a surprise for this particular one for now.

She took his complete attention when she told him that one of her colleages had shown interest in her,

Mayank asked smiling with gritted teeths, "So?"

Nupur replied amused at herself, "I told him that he was 10 years late!"

Mayank half smiled and asked, "No! That's not it, what if he was there in front of you before me?"

Nupur was so enjoying this moment, Mayank was extremely adorable when jealous, she acted as if considering his words and replied back, "Umm..- I don't know….may be I would have married him, you know there's a possibility!" She tried so hard to look thoughtful.

Mayank left her to herself and said a bit annoyed and sarcastically, "I didn't know it was so important just to be there before anyone else. So its just that I have been fortunate there"

"Mayank don't go green now!" she laughed and replied.

Mayank dismissed her claim and replied, "Oh am I?"

Nupur couldn't stop showing her glee when she said, "Oh I was just kidding and you know that!"

Mayank glared at her for scooping out this reaction out of him and asked indifferently as if continuing on her story, "And what if you had met me after marrying someone else?"

Nupur was amazed at him continuing her story now, se however replied dramatically, "Would you have wanted me cheat on anyone for you?"

Mayank replied laughing, "For me? Yes!"He completed pulling her to him.

Nupur laughed and said, "Ruthless you! I could never imagine you saying that" she hit him on his chest.

Mayank laughed at her and said, "What could I do, cheating never sounded so good to me!"

Nupur laughed with him.

That's how they were, some rare times - crazy stupid-lovers, now a newly transformed mature parents too, amazing friends, and one of the best people to be together - God forbid the fell apart ever.
