chapter 5
After talking with maan geet felt quite comfortable and gud .She was happy that maan supported her n fought for her but she felt guilty for her abduction . But with much thinkin she went to her bedside n switched on the reading light n strted to read a novel named 'promise to return'. But when she fell asleep she was unaware of that fact.
The clock struck twelve , the big mantle clock chimed n outside it was continuously raining accompanied with thunder n lightining which was beat against the window.
Suddenly geet was awake ,her heart pounding .Had she heard footsteps or was it was it merely a product of overactive imagination?She sat up ,hands around her knees .it was still raining so perhaps only a storm .
The floorboards creaked again.She had no doubt this time they were footsteps .She got up from the bed and made her wayto the door and opened it .It was dark ."Who is there?" she called out softly.This time she heard a familiar clop-clop.She nearly sank in relief .It was only her pet cat,who appeared to have made her way to one of the bedchambers at the end of the hall.
No doubt she shuld put the cat out but the rain was pounding hard on the roof and she was cold and tiredand wanted a bed.She started to turn when she heard a sound behind her .Geet had no time to react before a dark shape was upon her..A strong, rough hand was clapsed on her mouthand an arm yanked her against a hard, smelly body .She stuggled to set herslef free but to no veil .the voice said threatiningly, "don't scream or i shall hurt u" then he paused and said , "i want the ring" Geet said, "i ... i don't have it". The voice said ,"get it ".
She said "I...".
There was clear clatter of hooves and loud indignant bleat .HER assiliants arm fell away and then shoved her so hard that her head hit the wall and pain shot through her skull as she tumbled to the ground .
The last thing she heard before darkness descended was another angry bleat.
Something cold and wet touched her face .she moved her head a little but the pain that shot thru her head caused her to moan . She heard a familiar sound . "Betty?", she whispered.
"Move." The rough male voice was certainly not her cat.
he said ,"Geet r u alright? damn it. can u here me?"
What was maan doing here,geet thot to herslf and then her eyes flew open .She weakly said,"Maan ."
"Don't speak", but she ignored and said,"no need to swear at me."
"I was not swearing at u."
He then said,"can u sit up?"
geet tried to sit up despite of her pain and said,"yes i ...i think so."
his arm came around her shoulder and she was forced to kean into his chest for a moment .She could hear his heart , strong and steady , beneath the fine linen of his shirt.
"Good girl." he said softly. He held her for a moment , his warmth envoloping her. "I am going to carry you to your bed." Before shge could protest he had scooped up in his arms.
"You cannot do this .Your arm."
"my arm will be fine"
He carried her few steps to her bed and laid her gently down.She winced as her head contacted the pillow .
He drew the cover the cover upover her and sat down next to her on the bed.
"Geet," he said gently.
She opened her eyes.He was close enough so she could see the shadow of his beard around his mouth.His eyes were dark with concern.
Then he said with an air of determination, "you r goin to stay with me tomorrow u r goin go with me and_"
Before he culd finish she spoke up,"Pray not worry abt me i know wht trouble u had but if u insist i m goin to stay in my frnds house and to not be troubled coz aftr this we shall not meet again."
she stopped and luked outside the window and maan kept staring at her.
"Fine but we will talk about that later now you should take rest" , he said and walked out of the room.
