A/N: Thank you everyone for their feedback regarding the last chapter! So many people commented, and told me they liked that chapter, so thank youuuu! :] I would have posted this earlier, but I had to go out of town, and all my new chapters were left in my hard drive. Oh btw, I'll need some help with the whole wedding sequence so anyone willing to help me out with that? Anyways, enjoy! :)
"Hey Angie," Shilpa jumped up and sat on her car's hood beside Anjali.
"Hello beautiful," Anjali winked playfully while giving her a sideways hug "Out of detention so quickly?"
"Beautiful? You feeling okay?" Shilpa laughed.
"Oh please, you know you're pretty, and I'm perfectly fine. Thank you for your concern." Anjali muttered the last part sarcastically.
"It's a nice day, isn't it?" Shilpa stared up at the sky.
"Is that your way of trying to hold a conversation?" Anjali's eyebrows jumped up to her hairline.
Shilpa laughed again, "Maybe."
Anjali shook her head and mumbled something that sounded like 'hopeless'.
"Hey beauties," Rahul greeted them as he seated himself beside Shilpa.
"Hey. Umm, what do you want me to call you back? I mean I can't obviously call you handsome, I mean just look at yourself." Shilpa pretended to be in deep thought.
"So mean." Rahul narrowed his eyes pouting.
"Aww, the puppy's back." Anjali reached over to mess with his hair.
"Don't touch the hair!" Rahul exclaimed leaning backwards.
"Muskaan was right," Shilpa commented amused "You are more conscious than a girl."
"Totally." Anjali nodded her head in agreement.
"Ugh. Don't talk about her. She is so annoying. I don't see how you guys are able to deal..." Rahul's head snapped up in sudden realization "Wait, she talks about me?"
Anjali and Shilpa exchanged glances, and winked at each other before turning to Rahul and grinning widely, "Of course. She tells us a lot of things about you."
"Really?" Rahul looked surprised.
"Yeah," Shilpa spoke "She tells us what she hates about you."
"It's a long list." Anjali interjected.
"She tells us what things about you are tolerable."
"Not many things, apparently." Anjali inserted her side comment.
"She talks about how she feels about you." Shilpa spoke her voice fading at the end.
"What?!" Rahul almost yelled.
Shilpa and Anjali nodded, smiling innocently at him.
"Hey guys!" Armaan interrupted.
"ARMAAN!" Shilpa, Anjali...and Rahul yelled at the same time.
"Geez! Some people woke up on the wrong side of the bed!" Armaan stepped back a few steps.
"Yeah, whatever." Rahul muttered obviously irritated by Armaan's presence.
"Hey, guys!" Atul waved cheerily "Guess what?"
Anjali, Shilpa, Armaan, and Rahul gave him blank looks.
"Okay, okay, I'll tell you. I...got a new plant!" Atul looked visibly excited.
"Oh, umm, congratulations?" Shilpa's statement sounded more like a question.
"I know, right! I'm so happy, and I've decided to name it, Anjali. It's really pretty too." Atul beamed.
"That's so sweet, Atul." Shilpa cooed.
"Yeah, that is, umm, nice." Rahul blinked unsure of what to say.
Shilpa slapped him arm lightly, "Don't be mean."
"That's great, Champ" Armaan managed to sound normal "Anjali is so lucky to have a guy like you."
Anjali glared at the now smirking Armaan, and was about to say something, but she was interrupted by Atul.
"Yeah, and Shilpa's really lucky to have a guy like you." Atul answered honestly.
Rahul, and Anjali burst into laughter and high-fived the confused Atul.
"That...that...is the first time," Rahul spoke between laughs "You've said something...so...so...awesome!"
"Thanks, Rahul." Atul looked genuinely pleased unaware of what he was causing, but fortunately Muskaan interrupted before anyone could do or say something else.
"Hey, guys!" Muskaan chirped happily "Ready to go?"
"You got lucky," Armaan muttered lamely to an oblivious Atul.
"Lucky? Me? Really? Did I win a lottery?" Atul's eyes were shining brightly. He was ignored, as politely as you can get ignored by your 5 best friends.
ooooooo
"Okay, so I'm going to get right down to business." Anjali stated firmly staring at the duo sitting in front of her.
"Angie!" Rahul looked horrified "You can't just say it like that."
"Like what?" Anjali looked ticked off by the interruption.
"Like that!" Rahul replied.
"Can we...?" Muskaan tried only to be directly cut off by Rahul
"You can't just directly start talking about the topic. You've gotta casually bring it up. You can't just go like 'Okay, I'm going to get right down to business'."
"And why can't she?" Atul looked angry at Rahul for speaking to Anjali in such a tone.
"Can't we just...?" Muskaan tried to solve the fight between the three people in front of her.
"She just can't!" Rahul disputed.
"Oh yes, I can." Anjali threw back.
"Can't you people...?" Muskaan looked pissed off.
"You can," Rahul agreed "But you shouldn't. There are much better ways to do such stuff. You've got to build up to the topic. You can't be so straight forward and blunt about it."
"Why do I have to always start with some other topic, huh?" Anjali looked annoyed.
"You just do or else..." Rahul stated matter-of-factly before being very politely cut off by Muskaan.
"MOVING ON," Muskaan shouted and everybody in the cafe stared at her.
Armaan and Shilpa tried to stifle laughter as they observed their friends, but they almost laughed out loud when Muskaan shouted. Almost. Muskaan was never the one to solve fights between the groups. Most of the time she caused them rather than acting as a peacemaker.
"Nothing to stare at, go back to your business, people." Muskaan stated simply standing up. She was almost positive that they were going to get kicked out very soon at this rate.
"Anyways, as I was saying" Rahul started again staring directly at Anjali.
Muskaan very kindly slapped the back of Rahul's head much to Anjali's happiness. Rahul shut up. He knew he should never mess with Muskaan when she was angry.
"Okay, so as I was saying, we all think you should get married." Anjali spoke throwing a glare at Rahul, meanwhile.
"What?!" Armaan pretended to be mad.
"Not me." Atul cowered scared at Armaan's sudden outburst. Armaan had seemed perfectly happy a few minutes ago.
"You don't?" Anjali stared at Atul with her best pout face.
"I...I mean I do" Atul smiled at Anjali and then quickly backtracked as soon as he looked at Armaan "I mean I don't!"
"Decide, please." Muskaan mumbled while eating her oh-so-fresh muffin.
"Shut up and don't interrupt! Why is it that whenever I see you, you're eating something ." Rahul grumbled.
"What relation does my food have with all this? And why do you care what I do?" Muskaan spoke between bites.
"Didn't I tell you to be quiet? Are you hard of hearing?" Rahul looked ticked off for reasons nobody was aware of.
"What did I do? Huh? Maine do words kya kahay tum toh pagal ho gai." Muskaan shot back.
"Ok, look guys, calm down." Shilpa spoke confused at whatever was going on. "I know you guys want us to be married, and I'll think about it as soon as Mr. Armaan here does a bit of explaining."
"Hey!" Armaan looked cross "You can't just tell them like that, didn't I tell you to just act along?"
"Act along to what? I have no idea what's going on between these four, and I'm sure neither do you. I have much better things to do than watch four people fight over things like...like...whatever they were fighting about."
Armaan gasped dramatically, and uttered "Shilpa! How could you?"
"How could I what?" Shilpa looked confused.
"How could you be so mean?" Armaan shook his head disappointed.
"How was I...I wasn't..." Shilpa struggled to find the right words.
"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Shilpa. How could you be so mean? To your best friends of all people; I didn't expect this from you, Shilpa, not from you." Armaan was staring at her as if she'd told him to go jump off a cliff.
"Are you feeling okay?" Shilpa asked touching his head "I think you might be coming down with something."
Armaan squirmed away from her touch and snapped "I'm perfectly fine."
"Okay, just trying to help." Shilpa shifted away.
A heavy silence fell over our six protagonists, only to be broken by Atul who looked very, very confused.
"Does anyone think they can tell what is going on?!" Atul whisper-screamed. (A/N: Don't look at me like you don't know what whisper-screamed is! You know, the thing that you do, when you want to scream, but you don't want to make noise. So you scream in whisper form.)
"Well," Anjali looked hesitant.
"Um, actually..." Muskaan looked guilty.
"Look," Rahul started but snapped his mouth shut, because he suddenly realized he wasn't aware of what was going on either.
"We, personally," Shilpa spoke pointing between her and Armaan "Would love to tell you what's going on. Sadly, we don't know, or at least I don't know. Armaan, on the other hand..."
"Is completely unaware of what's going on as well." Armaan finished her sentence throwing in a glare...just for, you know, good measure.
"Funny." Atul deadpanned at Armaan "If you didn't know what was going on, you would be demanding the information in a much more abusive way."
"Me?" Armaan gestured to himself "Abusive? No."
"Him? Abusive? Yes." Shilpa pretended to speak to Atul all the while ignoring the glares from Armaan.
"This is tiring," Muskaan commented sipping her ice cap.
"Okay, fine, I'll explain." Anjali gave in sighing heavily "I wanted to talk to Armaan and Shilpa and convince them to get married."
"Aha!" Armaan declared as if he'd just discovered the evil villain's secret plan.
"What 'aha'?" Shilpa snapped irritated.
"I was just..." Armaan broke off unsure of what to say next.
"No, he was totally planning something too. He told me to just follow through. Follow through, what exactly? That he didn't find important to specify." Shilpa revealed much to Armaan's annoyance.
"You couldn't keep your mouth shut, could you?" Armaan snapped back.
"Okay, now that the truth is out," Atul spoke signalling an end to any fight that was going on "What was your plan?"
"My plan was..." Armaan hesitated before sighing loudly and explaining "My plan was to listen to Angie or Rahul's reasoning to get married to her." He gestured at Shilpa with his thumb and continued with his eyes lowered "Then I was going to agree to whatever reasons you guys had said, 'cause I was dead sure those reasons would be good. Don't ask why I was going to agree, okay? I have my reason. Then I was going to propose..."
"You were going to propose to her!?" Muskaan looked stunned.
"Oh. My. God. You were going to propose to her, like, out of the blue!?" Anjali yelled a little bit loudly.
"You can't propose like that!" Rahul remarked aware that he was acting like a girl.
"No!" Armaan paused to see if anyone was going to interrupt him or now, and then continued when he was satisfied with everyone's expressions "I wasn't going to propose to her. I was going to propose the idea of getting married. I gave this idea a lot of thought, and I think we should get married."
"I know that! But why?!" Shilpa asked her tone surprised, and not angry like Armaan had expected.
"Well, if you think about the idea, it could really be beneficial to both of you." Rahul smirked as he started to see Armaan's point of view.
"How? I really don't like the idea of spending my entire life with someone I hate." Shilpa felt angry at Armaan for suggesting the idea, forgetting all her previous ideas.
"Well, for one, we could ask the 'rents for our own separate house or apartment, obviously since I'm still in high school and don't earn. We could make up something like we want to start anew. We want to start fresh, and we think buying a separate place would be the best way. Secondly, we won't have to share a room when we get our own place; we could live in separate rooms. Thirdly, we'll have freedom. We could do whatever we want with no interference. I won't interfere in your life, and vice versa. Fourthly, you fully admitted to me about not believing in love. Well, if you don't then you won't have a problem with marriage. We could be totally career-oriented. I'm sure you've got your whole life planned out, which university to attend, which college to attend, and you've got no place for love in it, do you?" Armaan finished his lecture quite proudly.
"Well, I didn't expect him to break into a monologue, but he does have quite a few good points, Shilpa." Anjali carefully observed the emotions that were passing across Shilpa's face.
"Well, you're right, but I..." Shilpa broke off not sure what she wanted exactly. She could marry him just like he said, but it didn't feel right.
"But what?" Rahul leaned forward eagerly.
Armaan looked at her face carefully, and if he wasn't mistaken he saw the emotion of fear run across her face. It was gone as quickly as it came, but it had been there.
"Are you scared?" Armaan couldn't help but blurt out.
"What?" Shilpa looked incredibly surprised.
"Scared of commitment?" Armaan smirked "Or scared of how your future will turn out with me?"
"A little bit of both, though a lot more of the second one." Shilpa lied. She hadn't even thought about how her future would turn out with him. She was a lot more scared of commitment. What if it turned out to be like that?
Armaan couldn't help, but feel a little bit dejected at her statement. Nevertheless, he kept a straight face and waited for her to make the decision.
'Okay, Shilpa, focus! Armaan's a nice guy. He maybe a player, but he has a good heart.' A voice inside of her scolded her.
'Things aren't always what they seem.' Another voice argued.
Shilpa was torn between the options; should she say yes? Or should she say no?
'Take the risk.' A familiar voice spoke, and before she could make sense of what was going on she complied with what Armaan said.
"I'll do it." Shilpa spoke without realizing it.
"You will?" Armaan eyes were wide with happiness "Yes! Thank you."
"Congratulations." Rahul, Muskaan, Anjali, and Atul chorused in unison while grinning from ear-to-ear.
'That's it.' Shilpa thought 'There's no going back, now.'
Rahul, and Muskaan's jaws touched the floor when the door of the cafe opened, and a girl walked in.
Anjali who was sitting at the head of the table (A/N: The shorter side of the table) turned her head towards the door, and her eyes fell out. Armaan and Shilpa noticed their weird expressions, and turned around to take a look at who entered.
Armaan's entire body froze. The person who had entered the cafe was very familiar. Everything about her was familiar. Those were the same silky black locks, except they were shorter than he remembered them. They were the same green eyes, the same angular nose, and the same rosy lips. It was the same person that he had fallen for. The same person that had stolen his heart, and then crushed it into a million piece; it was the same girl - Maya.
A/N: How's that for a cliff hanger? 😛 I know, that it's a short update, but the next chapter WILL be up tomorrow so you won't have to wait long. Commeny, comment, and comment! :)) Oh, and are there any "10 things I hate about you" starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, or "Drive me Crazy" starring Melissa Joan Hart, and Adrian Grenier fans out there? Any fans willing to obsess over those two FANTASTIC movies with me? Any one?
