Sharing her own experience, Smriti recalled working through two pregnancies during the original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi shoot. “I worked through two pregnancies on this very set with a female producer. I was determined to make her show a success. It was my choice, and I can’t expect others to make their decisions based on my work ethic. If I don’t turn up to work, 120 people don’t get paid that day. It’s unfair to them. My approach to work is rooted in accountability and discipline,” she said.

I just hate this notion that since we have been doing this or working this way for years, we should continue doing the same.

Sure you all have made lots of sacrifices, but whats so wrong with trying to make industry functional for the future generations so that women can work even after getting married or having a kid.
Someone has to speak up to make a change. I dont know about DP other demands but proper hours and regular schedule is something anyone would want, let alone a new parent. All these women should be supporting her instead of going around making this ridiculous remarks.

The issue is that if the female lead is working 12 hours or so, the male lead, supporting characters, set dada, cameraman, and just about everyone else on set is also working the same amount of time in television/shows. No one gets to say, "I've finished my scenes, so I can leave for the day."

In Bollywood, Akshay Kumar and many other male stars have been working 8 hour shifts for years, and no one lectures them about work ethics. So, why is the long sermon about working hours/work ethics reserved only for female co-stars? A female lead should be allowed to request or demand an 8-hour shift as well. At the end of the day, if her hours aren’t acceptable to the producer, she’s not forcing anything—she’s being upfront about her demands. If it’s not acceptable to you as a producer, hire someone who will accept your terms. Why turn it into a public debate?
