Chapter One:</font>
London, England:Kripa stood in the line, her daughter, Sia, right next to her, as she waited to check her in into her summer camp, where she would be spending the next month.
***********
Fifty feet away, Angad stood in a similar line, waiting to sign in his daughter, Sur, into the camp.
***********
"Next!" screamed the man behind the desk, and Sia and Kripa walked towards him, where he asked her what her name was.
"Kripa. Kripa Sharma, and this is my daughter. Sia. Sia Sharma" she answered.
"Oh yes. I've been meaning to ask, there was no name filled out in the father's spot. You need to fill that out" stated the man, a serious grim on his face.
At that, Kripa looked at him shocked, as memories flooded back to her of Sia's father. With a cold, mean look, she replied
"Her father's dead."Sia looked at her mom, shocked, but before she could say anything, her mother glared at her, indicating that she shut up.
*************
On the other side, Angad and Sur started to move forward towards the desk.
"Your names?" asked the man, peering at them from behind his glasses.
"Angad Khanna and Sur. Sur Khanna" he responded.
"Well Mr. Khanna. There isn't a name listed for her mother, so could you please fill that out?"Instantaneously, Angad's grip on his daughter's hand tightened, and, giving her an apologetic look, he replied
"Her mother wants nothing to do with her. There's no need to have her name listed here."Sur felt tears well up in her eyes as her father said this, but she squeezed his hand back, indicating to him that she was fine.
*************
Sia and Kripa moved away from the desk after completing all the formalities and stood by the entrance to the camp, to say their final good byes.
"Mom. Why did you tell that man that my father is dead?" she questioned, her eyes blazing with questions.
"You know that he's not.""Sia Sharma. You are a child, so please don't get involved in this. Baby, you're going to be leaving me for a month. I'm going to miss you so much" said Kripa, as she changed the topic swiftly, not wanting to deal with questions about her ex-husband.
"Mooooom. I'm only gone for a month. I'll be back home soon." Then, giving her mother a quick hug and waving her a goodbye, Sia left and went into camp.
Kripa however, stood behind, watching her daughter leave, and floating in memories of her former husband. Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought about the man she had once loved, no the man she still loved with all her heart.
*********
Angad picked up his daughter, swinging her around, before he finally hugged her really tight.
"Sur. Dadi and me are going to miss you so much! I'll tell your Anjali Bua to come visit you soon" he said, planting a big kiss on his daughter's cheek.
"Dad. Why did you say mom didn't want me anymore?" she questioned, her eyes flooding with tears.
"Sur. You know better than to bring up your mom. We've discussed this before, and I don't want to hear another word about your mother." Stated Angad, his voice firm and a steely look on his face.
"But dad…" Sur continued, before Angad interrupted
"No. We're not continuing this discussion, dear." Sur then slipped out of her father's hands, hugging him tight, and walked away, her camp bag slung over her shoulder.
Angad was left there standing, watching his daughter walk away, and thinking about the time how another woman had walked away similarly, the other woman, the love of his life.
***********
Inside camp, Sia and Sur were standing in line to get room assignments. But will they meet so soon?Well, that was the first chapter, moreso of an introduction of the characters. Please comment and tell me if I should continue this. Otherwise, I may have to end up discontinuing this.
