WISH YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS !!
Part 9
The Armaan, who used to avoid visiting Abhi when Riddhima was in his room, now waited for Riddima to arrive before entering Abhi's ward.Of course! It was only to meet Akshat he assured himself. Akshat who was sitting on the bed, stood on it seeing Armaan and opened his arms saying "Uncle". Armaan went and hugged him. "Hi beta" he said and kissed his cheek and then turned to check Abhi.
Abhi: You seem to have become very close to my son, doctor.
A: Yes, he's a charmer and very sweet talker too.
Abhi: Actually both me and Riddhima are quite reserved, I don't know who he has taken after. He can talk non-stop.
Armaan smiled and looked at Riddhima from the corner of his eye and she also did the same. When their eyes met, riddhima immediately lowered hers. This exchange did not go unnoticed by Abhi.
Abhi: He tells me he's going to spend the day with you tomorrow? Please don't let him take undue advantage of your kindness. Do you have children of your own doctor?
Armaan hesitated for a moment before shaking his head.
A: I'm still a bachelor. Haven't been able to find a female who is prepared to tolerate me day-in and day-out.
He chuckled as he finished Abhi's check up. He picked up the chart to write down instructions for the nurse and the turned towards Akshat. He caught his hand and said "Chalo mere saath." Akshat eagerly jumped off the bed and left with him.
Suddenly Abhi asked Riddhima "Kya tum Dr. Armaan ko pehle se jaanti ho?" Riddhima was taken aback. She didn't know what to say. But then thought it better to give half the truth at least. She said "Haan, unhone bhi Sanjeevani mein intership kiya tha." And before Abhi could question her any further, she asked him "How are your yoga sessions going on?"
Abhi: Aaj humein Sudarshan kriya sikhaya. I'm really liking it very much. It seems next week they have a 3 days camp at their center in Coimbatore. I would like to attend that.
R: You better ask Dr. Armaan first.
Abhi: Of course I will.
R: OK I'll make a move now.
Abhi: Now that I'm taking hospital food you come once a day only. I'm busy with yoga, group sessions etc. here.
Riddhima couldn't believe her ears. Even when she had told him about eating only hospital food, he had accepted it without much protest. The counselling is really helping, she thought to herself.
She went to look for Akshat. The nurse told her that he was with Dr. Armaan in his cabin. She knocked and went in. Akshat was sitting on Armaan's lap and both of them were roaring with laughter. When she raised her eyebrows at them questioningly, Armaan gave Akshat a wink and both of them said together, "woh hamara secret hai". She just smiled and held out her hand to her son saying "Chalo ab ghar chaltein hai."
Ak: Uncle aap mujhe kal lene aaoge na?
A: Of course beta.
AK: Kitne baje?
Armaan looking towards Riddhima "Nau baje theek rahega?" When she nodded he said to Akshat "kal tum breakfast, lunch, dinner sab mere saath karoge. Ok?" Then he turned towards Riddhima and said "You could also join us". Riddhima shook her head and said "I have some work to catch up with". That settled, she and Akshat went home.
On the way they stopped at a sweet shop to pick up some ladoos fo Armaan, to be sent with Akshat the next day. She tried to question Akshat about their plans for the next day but he adamantly refused to divulge. Riddhima couldn't believe her son keeping any secrets from her but she let him as it seemed to make him excited.
As she put him to bed that night she wondered if she was doing the right thing by allowing him to get so close to Armaan? On one hand she felt that this was the least she could do for Armaan after having deprived him of so much, leaving his life barren. On the other hand she worried how it would affect Akshat when they had to leave from here as the new medication seemed to be acting well on Abhi. Then she thought it better to leave thing to fate. How much ever one plans and thinks, whatever will be, will be. As od now she atleast had the satisfaction of making the two most important people in her life, happy.
Akshat was up 6 o'clock the next morning and was shaking her awake, "mama jaldi utho. Armaan uncle aathe honge. Mujhe tayyar hona hai." She had thought she could sleep in late today as she didn't have to rush to the hospital with Abhi's breakfast. She slightly opened her eyes and looked at the alarm clock. When she saw it was just six, she told akshu "Abhi bahot time hai uncle ke aane mein. So jao.". He closed his eyes for hardly five minutes and again started "mama utho na". At last fed up with his pestering she woke up. Brushing, bathing, choosing clothes, dresssing, drinking milk was all done in a jiffy without any fuss today. She realized how much he must be missing a father figure. This only added to her guilt. She switched on his favourite cartoon show and went for her bath. Its was just seven yet. When she came out she saw him peeping out of the window instead of watching the TV. She called out to him, "Akshu yahan shanti se bait kar TV dekho. Ab uncle ko aane mein time hain". But he was impatient. Every five minutes he would keep asking "mama ab kya time hua hai?"
She heaved a sigh of relief when yelled "uncle" excitedly and ran to the door spotting Armaan's car. He had packed some indoor games and bat-ball the previous night in a bag. He held the door open before Armaan could ring the bell and picking up the bag asked "Chale?" Riddhima shouted "Akshu, uncle ko andar to aane do.". Armaan just smiled seeing his excitement and said "why don't you also come?' She shook her head and asked "can I get you some coffee?". No, I think we'll get going. I'll call you and let you know what time we'll be coming back. But don't expect him back till after dinner" he said. She smiled and nodded. Riddhima put the packet of ladoos in Akshat's bag and told him in his ears to give it to Armaan when they reached his house. When Armaan said "chale" to Akshat he just ran out just yelling "bye mama". Riddhima felt a little hurt. But suddenly he turned and came back running. Pulled her down by her hand, put his arms around her neck, kissed her on both her cheeks and said "Love you mama. Aap ko akele darr tho nahi lagega?" She couldn't stop her tears then. But she quickly wiped them off and said "nahi beta aap jao. Have a nice time." She waved out to them and closed the door.
It was only an hour since they had left and she was already missing him. Though she had started working six months after his birth, her consultaion hours were limited to few hours in the morning and few hours in the evening. And now in Munnar she was with him 24x7. The house seemed too quiet without his incessant chatter. She wished she had accepted Armaan's offer and joined them. But she didn't want to get too close to Armaan. As it is she felt herself being drawn to too much for her comfort. She had to keep reminding herself she was a married woman.
She decided to tackle the house and cupboard cleaning immediately. But with no disturbance of any sort it got done quickly. She was in no mood to cook. So left for the hospital. Abhi enquired about Akshat and they talked for sometime. Abhi was very enthusiastic about the yoga kriyas. She asked him how he found the hospital food. He said it was Ok and that he had no choice. Riddhima's conscience was a little lighter now, seeing Abhi like this.
When she went back home she felt very lonely and thought of calling up to check how Akshu was doing. When she called on Armaan's cell, he saw her number and immediately handed the phone to Akshat saying "tumhari mama". Akshat sounded super excited. "Mama aapko pata hai Kaka ne meri favourite aloo parath banaya tha breakfast ke liye aur ab lunch mein meri favourite paneer ki sabzi. Maine roti bhi khayi aur chawal bhi. Aur ab Armaan uncle mere liye ice-cream laye hain. Meri favourite choco chip flavour.." Riddhima was very happy for her son. "To bahut enjoy kar rahe ho!" she said. "Aap bhi aati to aur maza aata." He replied. She felt very touched. He the went on to describe how he and uncle had played cricket and other indoor games. She hung up and decided to make a sandwich for herself. She had just settled down for a nap when the doorbell rang. She was surprised to see Armaan and Akshu there when she opened the door."Arrey tum to raat ko aane wale the na?" she asked allowing them to enter the house.
AK: Nahin main apneliye kapde lene aaya hoon. Uncle mujhe waterfall par leker jaane wale hain. To mere kapne bheeg jayenge na. Is liye doosre kapde lene aaye hai.
He rushed in. Riddhima asked Armaan to sit down and went in to see to Akshu. He had already picked up a set of clothes for himself. She fetched a plastic bag to put them in and also added a towel as they entered the hall. Armaan took the bag from her. Suddenly Akshat pulled her hand and said "Mama aap bhi chalo na." She said "Nahi Akshu aap jao. Aur sambhalke. Jyaada der paani mein nahi rehna warna sardi lag jayegi."
AK: Pleeeeaaaaaaaase mama.
A: Woh itna keh raha to chalo na.
Actually Riddhima needed no second invitation to join them, after spending such a lonely morning. But she was afraid of the feelings which took over whenever Armaan was around.
