That evening as they were walking to the hospital, she thought now she need not leave Akshat at the kid center. But then remembered about Abhi's violent mood in the morning and decided against taking Akshat to meet him. When she entered Abhi's room he seemed to be OK. When she asked him "How are you now?" he didn't reply. She served him his dinner and he ate that also quietly. Maybe it's the effect of the tranquilizer she thought. She sat with him for a few minutes. When he didn't seem inclined to talk she got up and said "Good night. I'll see you in the morning". As she left Abhi's ward her eyes wandered around hoping to catch a glimpse of Armaan. But she wasn't so lucky.
The next morning also Abhi was very subdued and quiet. Riddhima was a bit worried about it. She thought of asking Armaan about it and went to his cabin, but it was locked.
Sr.Stella came to Riddhima and said "Erman is not eere today. He has gone to Coimbatore."
R: Coimbatore?
Sr. Stella: He goes there for 2 days every month for consultations at a private ospital. Actually he had to go yesterday morning but he got delayed. He left only in the evening.
R: Oh, OK.
She wondered why he not mentioned anything about it yesterday.
That evening Armaan returned from Coimbatore. Instead of going home, he drove straight to the hospital kid center. He knew Riddhima would be in the hospital with Abhi's dinner. Akshat was sitting quietly and watching some cartoon show on TV, when he saw Armaan enter. He ran up to him and said "Hi uncle, kaise ho aap?" When he saw Armaan slump into a chair he asked "Kya hua. Aapki tabeeyath theek nahi hai?"
A: Kuch nahi beta. Bahut thak gaya hoon. Abhi Coimbatore se laut raha hoon.
Then he held out a packet to Ahshat and said "Dekho tumhare liye kya laya hoon."
Akshat excitedly opened the packet and screamt with joy "Wow, video game? Yeh mere liye hai? Harroz ke liye?"
A: Matlab?
AK: Main ise apne saath ghar le ja sakta hoon?
A: Of course.
AK: Lekin aaj to mera Happy Birthday nahin hai. Mera birthday next month hai.
A: Yeh tumhara birthday gift nahi hai. Tumhare birthday par to main tumhe sabse badiya gift doonga.
But he saw Akshat's face fall immediately
A: Kya hua ? Tumhe pasand nahi aaya mera gift. Kal tum us ladke ke saath khelte hue itne khush the, to maine socha tumhe yeh pasand hoga.
AK: Nahi mujhe bahut pasand hai. Par main yeh nahi le sakta.
Armaan knelt down beside him, hugged him sideways and asked "Kyun nahi le sakte?"
AK: Mama gussa karegi.
Armaan kissed him on the cheek and hugged him tightly. Just then Riddhima came there to fetch Akshat. Armaan saw her enter and purposely said,"Aap ki mama kuch nahin kahegi. Lekin ek shart hai."
AK: Kaisa shart?
A: Aap apne mama ke permission ke bagair isse nahin kheloge.
AK: Promise .
Armaan kissed him once again, and was about to leave when two tiny arms went around his neck and the sweetest kiss possible was laid on his dimpled cheek. "Thank you uncle" said a chweet voice which was like music to Armaan's ears. He just closed his eyes for a few seconds. Not only to savour this blissful moment, but to stop the tears which were threatening to flow down his cheeks. He couldn't get enough of this precious moment.To Armaan, who had always yearned for love and someone to call his own, it was like the first rainfall on the parched summer soil. He also embraced him and said "You are welcome beta. Chalo main aap logonko ghar drop kar deta hoon."
Riddhima knew there was no point in refusing.
On reaching their house Akshat asked him to come in. He said "Nahin beta, bahut thak gaya hoon. Phir kabhi. Promise yaad hai na?"
AK: haan uncle, mama ke permission ke bina nahi kheloonga.
He waited in the car till Riddhima opened the house door. When Akshat waved out to him from the door, he too waved back and drove away.
Akshat looked up at Riddhima and said "Uncle bahut achche hai na?" "Haan beta bahut achche hai" she replied. She was glad to see that Armaan didn't just pamper Akshat like a favourite uncle would, but also disciplined him as a father should. She was happy to see them bonding so well but did this relationship have any future?
When he reached home Kaka was relieved to see him smiling though he looked haggard.
The next morning after debating a lot with herself, Riddhima took Akshat to meet Abhi. She was glad to see Abhi smile at him. Akshat also smiled and went and sat next to him on the bed.
Abhi: Kaise ho bachcha?
Ak: Main achcha hoon, Aap kaise ho?
Abhi: Ab zara theek hoon.
Ak: Aapko pata hai kal Armaan uncle mere liye video game lekar aaye.
Abhi: Armaan uncle?
Riddhima got nervous hearing them.
Just then Armaan entered. He saw Akshat and high fived him saying "Hi beta". Akshat gave him a broad smile and said "Hi uncle".
Before Abhi could figure out how they had got so familiar and friendly with each other, Riddhima just grabbed Akshat's hand and pulled him out of the ward saying "chalo hum bahar wait karte hai. Uncle ko check up karne do." She wanted to stop him from blurting out something more.
After a few minutes Armaan came out and told her "Mr. Modi's test results have come. Can you come into my cabin? Riddhima hesitated for a moment. Then she told Akshat "yahin chup chaap baite raho. Papa ko pareshan nahi karna." Then she followed Armaan to his cabin.
Inside Armaan's cabin:
Armaan asked her to sit and took out the sonography report. He placed it in front of her saying, "I'm afraid my suspicions were right. He has fatty liver and as you know this could be the first stage to Cirhosis. At this stage the damage to his liver is still reversible. But he has to totally give up alcohols because any further damage will make it irreversible.
R: Is that why he has not shown any significant improvement inspite of the drugs?
A: Yes, because of his liver condition some medicines are not effective for him. But now that we have the diagnosis we can give him the proper drugs. His diet also has to be strictly monitored. So here afterwards he has to take meals prepared in the hospital as per our dieticians instructions only. No more home food.
R: That's going to be difficult because he's very fussy about his food.
She looked very apprehensive.
A: Don't worry we have some couselling and yoga sessions for the patients. That will also help.
R: Does Abhi know about this?
A: Yes, I explained it to him just now. Don't worry. If he is motivated enough he'll be able to do it.
R: Armaan, I am responsible for Abhi's condition in a big way."
He could understand her concern and worry. But how could she defend Abhimanyu and take the blame on herself? She must really love him a lot, he thought and that terribly saddened him.
