Hmm, Krishna's attack may have been before the attack on Dwarka. The attack on DWARKA is too clearly stated in every version for it to be an interpolation.

Did Dury have the resources to co-ordinate with Shalva that too even without Bheeshma/Vidura and probably even Dhrit being aware of the plan?

I read the detailed story. Shalwa attacked Dwaraka while Rajasuya was going on. Krishna attacked Shalwa while DS was happening. I see no chances of Dury planning DS while Rajasuya was going on. Shakuni & Dury planned DS only after they returned HP. But Shalwa had already destroyed Dwaraka by then. So that cannot be a planning of Dury.

It seems that Shalva got a flying city from Shiva as a boon and used that to attack Dwaraka. Krishna destroyed that city.
@AnuMP, I believe its a spelling mistake. He probably would have wanted to write princes (with a single s). The description afterwards tallies with the word princes.

this sounds right.. Dury can time Shalva's attack.. not Krishna's response to it.. may be they took advantage of Krishna's absence.. as Krishna already left IP when Dury was being drama queen...

Yes Diala, Dury was not intelligent enough to plan such a thing. Had it been Krishna, I would have agreed.😉

Not certain about that Jamy. Because Shalwa was clearly present at Rajasuya and is shown to be angry at Shishupal's death.

Also, I believe he is seen talking to Dury about his anger.

Will post citations in the evening.

He may have attacked while the last part of the proceedings was going on. I don't believe in coincidences, like I said😆

@ Anu - How is it possible for Shalwa to attack Dwaraka, while Rajasuya was going on, if he was present during the ceremony? Can one actually slip away.

Shalwa must have been in IP as a guest, so he wouldn't have bought an army with him. In order to destroy Dwaraka, he would have had to either inform his army to meet him somewhere midway or actually go back to his kigdom and proceed towards Dwaraka with his army. We have to take into account the distance between IP and dwaraka too, right.

I was thinking maybe Krishna stayed on in IP after Rajasuya for sometime and thats when Shalwa attacks Dwaraka and that's the same time Dury plans for the DS.

When Krishna hears of the news, immediately dispatches to a battle with Shalwa, during which time the Ps and P go to HP for the ill fated DS.

Krishna himself says that Shalwa had destroyed Dwaraka fully by the time he returned from Raja suya. Had it been a plan by Duryodhana, why it is not mentioned in the book? MB has 'that wicked wretch' as much as it has 'O slayer of Madhu'... That attack & plan are not anything bigger than DS, right?

Shalwa is deffo present at Rajasuya. And Krishna did stay back for sometime afterward.
So that may explain the time lag.

What I am seeing is Shishupal's is killed, Shalwa is outraged, he talks to Dury, he takes off to attack Dwarka, Dury kicks up a tantrum but also mentions that no one has yet retaliated for Shishu's slaying, then invites YBANS over for the DS. Both attack on Dwarka and G's retaliation as well as the DS take place in the same genral time frame

Also all of this is included In Shishupala vadha parva. Why? At best it was an irritant if we take things at face value. Why is it given so much importance.
