The Beginning Of Our Friendship

"Tu aisa kaise kar sakti hai Veera? Tainu agar kuch ho jaata toh..." Baldev scolded Veera and the concern in his voice was clearly understood.

Veera stared at him, surprised. "Oye Baldev, main jo bhi karu, tainu ki? Maine jo kia Veerji nu beguna saabit karne ke liye kia, aur waise bhi, tu toh baat hi naa kario. Bina kuch soche samjhe Veerji nu itna maara. I mean, hadh hoti hai Baldev, tu unhe bachpan se nahi jaanta tha? Aur toh aur, tainu pata hai Veerji Gunjan didi nu kitna pyaar karte hai, aur tujhe laga ki woh aisa kar sakte hai? Pyaar vich yeh sab nahi hondaa samjha, lekin main yeh tujhe kyun das rahi hu, tu kabhi nahi samjhega." she screamed and literally poured all her anger that she had inside herself since the moment she saw her brother being humiliated by everyone.

"Veera, mainu toh--- tu---" All of a sudden, Baldev was at a loss of words. How could she think that he didn't know what love is? How could she think that he could cause extreme pain to anyone intentionally? He wondered and frustration overpowered his mind.

"Tu ki ha? Ki? Tainu sirf chot pohochana aata hai, ek bar mainu saahara de dia toh laga ki tu acha insaan hai, ek sachche dost ki tarah dekhne lagi thi tujhe, par nahi tu pehele bhi kamina tha aur aaj bhi wahi hai. Sirf khud ke baade mein sochne wala, dusro ki koi parwaah nahi." said Veera coldly and stormed away, leaving a speechless Baldev alone in the midst of a field.

As the sun was hiding itself and the day was ending, Baldev numbly walked near his jeep. Veera's words echoed in his ears as he quietly sat on the ground. All the moments they had shared appeared in his mind. As he remembered their hug, his lips unconsciously curved in a dreamy smile, which vanished in no time when he realized that perhaps Veera did not love him, she never did, it was he who misunderstood her friendship to be her love for him, and at present, he lost her as a friend as well.

Tears brimmed at the corner of his eyes and the next moment, they slowly rolled down his cheeks. Just then he felt something wet on his face. He touched it and came to know that he was crying. Baldev Singh, the lion, the young Sarpanch of Preetampura was shedding tears for a damn woman. What crap was he doing? He was astonished at this, and instantly wiping off his tears, he stood up and sat on the seat of his jeep. "Mainu ki paagalpan ka keedha lag gaya hai? Acha hua na ki woh mainu pyaar nahi karti, dil toh nahi tootega na uss bechari ka. Theek hi hua." he said to himself though couldn't get convinced enough and drove away.

Veera, at her home, was looking blankly at the sky. Everything was fine, so why wasn't she smiling? Why wasn't she happy? There was something missing - something that she couldn't understand. "Ki ho raha hai mainu? Kuch samajh hi nahi aa raha. Itni taqleef kis liye ho rahi hai?" Suddenly out of nowhere, Baldev's thoughts came in her mind. She shut her eyes angrily and forced him to get out of her mind, but her attempts failed. Instead she remembered how he supported her in time of her need.

Her phone rang the next moment. She picked it up and instantly widened her eyes. "Ki? Ki hoya usse? Main aati hu..." she rushed out of her bedroom and ran outside. Nobody saw her as it was quite late night.

Running inside the hospital, Veera went to the reception. "Baldev Singh...kitthe hai woh?"

"Room 212..." the receptionist said and directed her to go left and in no time, Veera ran towards that direction.

Veera froze at the door as he saw Baldev lying on the bed unconscious with his forehead bandaged. "Baldeva..." her voice was shaken and eyes glittered with tears. She walked closer and sat beside him. All of a sudden, she felt an urge to touch him and feel him. She forwarded her shivering hand and stroked his forehead. Caressing his cheek affectionately, she remembered how he was there for her whenever she needed a shoulder to cry on. But suddenly she remembered how he had beaten up her brother in front of everyone, she moved her hands away. "Itni kyun taqleef ho rahi hai mainu? Mainu yaha aana hi nahi chahiye tha." she exasperated and as she was about to walk away, she felt someone grabbing her wrist.

Turning back in pleasant surprise, Veera grinned to see Baldev conscious. "Tu paagal hai ki? Samhaalke jeep nahi chalaani aati tainu? Agar kuch hota jaata toh--" she started scolding him for being careless about himself. "Ab bol kaise hua yeh sab?"

"Ghar jaa raha tha woh saamne ek truck aa gai aur samhaalte samhaalte jeep per se zor se takra gai. Mainu dhakka lag gaya aur main jeep se niche gir gaya, phir patthar se sar pe zor se lagi." Baldev whined and sadly pouted. "Bohot zor ki lagi yaaarrr."

"Chup kar tu. Sach mein kamina hai tu! Jhaapar maarne ka mann ho raha hai tainu. Dhyaan se jeep chalaani aati nahi toh chalaata kyun hai kamina...bandar kahika..." Veera snapped back at him.

"Oye tainu ki farq padh raha hai...mainu jo bhi ho, jeeyu ya maru, tainu ki?" Baldev questioned her with an adorable frown on his face.

"Oye chup kar tu! Phir se aisi baat ki na toh haddiya todh dungi samjha..." Veera threatened him and in the meantime, approached a little closer, creating an awkward moment between both of them.

Baldev smirked. "Todhde..." he paused a little, "Issi laayak hu main..." his face saddened. "Ranvi nu chot deke tainu bohot dard dia na maine...Mainu maaf karde...Par tu bhi samajh naa...Uss waqt mainu sirf Gunjan dikh rahi thi...Aur ek Veerji hone ka farz nibhaa raha tha yaar..."

Veera moved backwards. "Maaf kia..." she smiled. "Tu bhi ki yaad rakkhega kis dildaar se paala padha tha!" she proudly exclaimed and all Baldev did was smiling at the attitude of hers, his Sherni.

"Par mainu ek saugan de..." Baldev sternly interrupted.
"Ki?" Veera confusedly asked.
"Agli bar se aye sab nahi chalega samjhi..." Baldev rightfully commanded.
"Oyeee... jyada haq naa jataaiyo samjha..."
"Tu das pehele...Koi khatre wali kaam nahi karegi aur agar karna bhi padhe toh mainu dasegi pehele..."
"Kyun? Tu ki mera boyfriend hai?" Veera asked and suddenly she realized what she said. Biting her tongue, she looked elsewhere.

Baldev, on other side, was feeling his heart beating really fast. For that moment, all he experienced was sheer joy and excitement. He wanted to dance like a kid. An innocent smile played on his lips. But then coming back to the reality, he tried changing the topic to distract himself. "Oye dost hu tera..itna toh haq banta hai.."

"Dost?" Veera raised her eyebrows in pleasant surprise.

Embarrassed, Baldev looked elsewhere. "Oye haan...tainu saahara dia, tu itthe aayi meri chinta vich...toh dost toh huye hum..."

"Are waah Baldeva!tu toh kaafi badaal gaya...Achanak se seedhe raaste pe aa gaya..." Veera burst into an amused laugh. Baldev couldn't help but joined her in laughing at himself. "Tu bas aise hi khush reh...aur kuch nahi chahie mainu..." he serenely smiled and thought. Suddenly jerking out of his dreamland, he wondered confusedly, "Ki ho raha hai mainu...Veera toh mainu pyaar nahi karti...phir bhi aisa ajeeb lag raha hai..."

"Ki soch raha hai Baldeva?" she shook him and asked curiously.

"Aye soch raha hu ki Baldev Singh sudhar kaise gaya..." Baldev sarcastically answered, making him and Veera laugh their hearts out.
