CHAPTER-13.
I bloom like a fresh blossom-
I shy away yet yield..
But how do I hide my growing fire..?
How do I create a shield..?
Warm sunlight and chirping of birds woke Veera up..
She frowned ,suddenly shocked at her strange surroundings..She stretching her arms,when she realized she was stark naked under the blanket she slept in,and yelped out in fear..She never slept in the nude..!
She looked around frantically,and suddenly as she saw a kurta,lying beside her,her widened in remembrance..And then as a familiar yet new feeling overcome her body,she had memories of last night flashing through her mind..
Instantly she flushed hot..
She could not wipe off her mind,how tenderly he had made love to her,and yet with such passion..Her body still felt tender at the places he had kissed and nibbled,and her stomach muscles instantly twisted in knotted tension at the memories..
She moved sideways,and hugged the kurta to her bosom,loving the feel of it,and it smelled so much of him..
She caressed the fabric with her cheeks,wishing he was here beside her right then,and she could caress his chest instead..And then he would hug her tight,and kiss her senseless again,and-..
Suddenly she wondered,that why was he not here beside her..?Where was her..?!
And then she remembered that he worked for a living now,and maybe he had gone to work..
Squishing down her wish that he was here,she decided it was better this way instead..
This would save her the embarrassment of seeing him in the morning in this condition,and she would be able to get dressed in privacy again..
She did not know why,but in the morning light,she felt too naked and ashamed..Ashamed of being in this condition,but not ashamed of what had happened last night..She did not know why,but she did not feel the least bit guilty at all..
She knew once she got home,she needed to give some explanation,but she was not worried about that at the moment..What she was more worried about was how she was going to stay away from him till evening..
She winced a little as she stepped out of the bed,her body still sore from the love making,but then she blushed in remembrance again..
Falling in love was a beautiful feeling,but the best feeling was falling in love with the right man,and having him making such torrid and tender love to you..Having his arms round you to protect you..
With a sigh she quickly dressed up,to be on her way..
If she was lucky enough she might sneak into her room,and explain that she had stayed on at a friend's house..
Veera was lucky no one questioned her when she explained she was at a friend's house..Nor did her Veerji looked pissed that she had switched off her phone..
A battery down explanation had worked,and she was fine with it..
As she was more busy being alone in her room,and reliving the moments and memories..
Twice she thought of barging in on his workplace,but held herself back from doing so,at the last moment..
But she could not hide the constant silly happy grin on her face,or the beautiful glow..So she kept to her room,pleading a headache as an excuse..
Finally when it was four-thirty,she was walking towards his cottage..She wanted to see him in privacy..They had a lot to talk about now..They had to lessen the gap of six long months,and she had so much to tell him..!
She looked down at the steel container in her hand,and smiled again..
She had cooked kheer for him today,and wanted to feed it to him with her own hand..
And she had also dressed up specially for him today..
She had worn a read and back Patiala suit,and had kept her hair open..She had even bothered to put on light make up for him..She wanted him to be surprised to see her,and wanted to hear those husky sweet nothings he had whispered to her last night,yet again..
She wanted to-..
Veera stopped her wayward mind from thinking any further wild thoughts,as she was already flushing tomato red,and if these went on,he would surely know what she was thinking with just a look,with his knowing dark eyes..
Veera was still waiting for him and stared maybe hundredth time at the lock hanging from the door..
It was nearly seven thirty now,and he was still no back..
Maybe he had gotten stuck somewhere and hence..
It was nine thirty when Veera sat alert hearing a sound..
It was the woman,of that first night..Whom she had seen after she had hit her head in the forest..The woman who had told her about Baldev saving her..
"Beti tu iththe..?Inni raat gaye iththe ki kaar rahi hai,aur wo bhi akeli..?
[You here dear..?What are you doing here so late at night,and that also alone..?]"Veera felt embarrassed and stood up awkwardly not sure what to say..
"Wo-..Wo Baldev.."
"Ki Dev..?Wo kaun hai..?
[What Dev..?Who is he..?]"The woman asked clearly not getting what Veera was saying.
A small smile came on Veera's lips,as she realized Baldev must have hidden his true identity from the woman,in fear of getting known..
She looked back at the woman again..
"Nahi..Mera matlaab ki iththe jo munda rehta hai na..?Wo uss din apne bola tha na ki wo mainu bachaya tha..?Usse-..
[No..I mean,the guy who stays here..?Remember that day you told me that he had saved me..?He-..]"
"Achcha wo..?Wo to aaj dopahar hi ghaar charke chala gaya hai..!Main to yehi vekhne ayi thi ki maine thik se taala lagayi hai ya nahi..
[Okay him..?He has left the house today afternoon..!I just came to see if I had locked the door properly or not..]"
The woman went on talking to herself as she checked the lock,while Veera looked on stunned still..What did the woman just say..?She must be joking right..?!
Baldev has left this afternoon..?But why would he do that..?Why now,when..?!
"Taiji..Aap ko kaise pata ki wo-..Chala gaya..?
[Aunty..How do you know that he-..Left..?]"Veera nearly choked on the last word..
"Kaise pata matlab..?Wo khud hi to chlake aya tha mere paas..!Chabi deke gaya..!Kaha ki uska iththe pe kaam khatam ho gaya hai..
[What do you mean,how do I know..?He himself came to me..!Gave me the key..!He said his job over here is over..]"That sounded like a slap to her,and Veera nearly toppled backwards..
What was she saying..?Why would he say that his job was..Finished..?
Veera felt her knees were almost giving away,when she asked a last question to the woman..
"Usne aapko aur kuch kaha kya..?
[Did he tell you anything else..?]"Veera's voice sounded strange and choked even in her own ears,but she was in a complete different world at that moment..
She did not react the least bit when the woman shook her head,and denied him saying anything further to her..
"Shukriya ji.."Veera mumbled softly,in a strange voice,and turned to leave,the container of kheer still in her hand..
The woman,seeing her strange lost look,called on her a number of times from behind,but Veera did not have the energy to respond or turn..She only knew she had to move..Move ahead..Move on..
A strange choking feeling had settled in her heart,and she was having difficulty in breathing too..
She scratched her arms on brambles and bushes,nearly stumbled on rocks twice,but not once did she wince..She was not even seeing,where she was walking to..
Something was clawing at her insides..Continuously,endlessly,and Veera did not know how to fight back,or if to fight at all..
The words kept ringing in her ears..He had said his job was finished here..Job was finished..His JOB was finished here..
He had said-..
Veera hitched in a sharp breath,as something strange twisted in her heart..She felt someone had pierces a sharp crooked edged knife in her intestine,and was now twisting it,until her insides were torn to shreds..
But yet Veera did not wince..Nor did she cry..
THUD!THUD!THUD!
It seemed she was still seeing him chopping woods with his face covered..
"I love you Baldeva.."She had whispered looking into those eyes,and cried herself to sleep in those arms..The same hands that had handed the key over today,had caressed her whole body..
The same mouth,which had said his job was over here..Had kissed her senseless only last night..
The same man,whom she had loved and given herself to..Was now gone..
His job was done,over..His JOB was truly over..His JOB was over..
The choking heavy feeling was increasing its pressure in her heart,and she was having difficulty in breathing..
THUD!
She bumped her head hard onto a tree trunk,and fell down on the forest floor,as the tin container,fell down from her hand..Its content splattered on the ground..
And Veera felt something warm and sticky trickling down her forehead,as she stared at the kheer splattered on the ground..
The drop of something dark from her forehead fell onto the splattered kheer..It was her blood,she realized..
The kheer was destroyed..She thought numbly..She wanted to feed them to him..She had made it so lovingly for him,and it was destroyed..He would have smiled that innocent smile and thank her,and -..
And that was when her world broke apart..
"BALDEVA!!!"She screamed out into the darkened night,as sobs wreaked her body..Hot tears fell down her eyes,as she knelt down on the ground,and wept her heart out..
The sound of her sobs piercing the utter silence of the night..As she wept her heart out in loss for her dreams..She wept her heart out,as she was left alone by the man she loved once again..
And it was the stars lighting up the dark night sky,who were the only witness to her heart wrenching earth shattering painful sobs..Sobs that made you want to mourn too..Sobs that clawed at your heart and made it bleed too..Sobs that were signs of a heart broken in love..
And Veera went on sobbing for her Baldeva..Who was gone again..
