"Anand!"
I was trying to hide but it was kind of impossible to do so when you're taller than most people.
"Anand!"
I could still hear her voice and it was getting closer and I hid behind the wall and hoped that she wouldn't notice.
There were a few nurses and patients that passed that would look at me weird but it wasn't as much to cause so much attention.
"Anand!"
I cursed under my breath as the voice was getting closer.
Darn it Shraddha. Just let it be.
I closed my eyes and I felt a tugging on my hospital gown and my heart dropped at the fact that I was finally caught.
"Shraddha please don't tell..." I opened up my eyes ready to see my sister face as she gloats that I was afraid when I was shocked and left confused at a different face that was in front of me.
It was a girl with long brown hair with brown eyes that were shining in mischief and in interest. She had a smile spreading across her face as her cheeks slightly bulged out as she looked at me.
She was wearing a light pink pajama with small hearts on it.
"Hello." She said smiling.
I was staring at her and she blushed slightly.
"I can help you." She said.
I looked confused.
"Help with what?" I said confused.
She motioned her hands for me to come closer so I did.
"Help you avoid whoever is looking for you." She whispered and I drew away while she was smiling even more.
"How do you know..."
"Anand!" her voice became louder and I panicked.
The girl in questioned chuckled and she took my hand.
"Follow me!" she said.
Without any input she grabbed my hand and before I could protest she took my hand in hers and she led me away from Shraddha's voice that was becoming closer and as soon as we turned the corner and I could see Shraddha make her way to the corner that we were in.
The girl didn't stop and although despite the difference in height and weight she was a lot stronger than I thought she was.
She ran into a room and before I could protest she shut the door.
Before I could argue she was struggling to breathe, her face pale, and sweat was across her forehead and I was about to call for a nurse and she grabbed my hand.
"Dooonnn'ttt." She said in a dragged and strangled voice.
"But you're having trouble breathing." I said kneeling down in concern.
She smiled and she stuck her hand out for a minute and I looked at her.
She was able to regain her composure and I could see a small flush coming to her face before I decided to call a nurse.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
She nodded and smiled.
I sighed in relief.
"Thank you." I said slowly smiling.
"No problem...Anand is it?" she said with a little bit difficulty and I was close to leaving to get a nurse and she grabbed my shirt.
"No don't" her face became pale again.
"Okay...are you sure you don't look so well?" I said concern.
"Never mind all that. My name is Kritika but you can call me Kittu." She said reaching her hand out for mine.
I smiled and I shook her hand.
"Wow you smiled at me didn't think you could. I guess I'm lucky since I saved you." She said while chuckling.
I smiled and I looked around at the empty room and I looked back at her.
"Don't you think we will get in trouble for being here?" I said looking at her.
"They just finished emptying it out it might take us a good ten minutes before they admit someone here." She said sadly.
I looked at her confused and she smiled.
"So how old are you, you look a lot older than me?" she said creasing her forehead.
I blinked and my smile disappeared.
"Why are you interested?" I said skeptically.
She blinked and laughed.
"Because I haven't had anyone my age to play with in ages. Plus every time someone comes they eventually leave." She said sadly again.
"How long have you been here?" I asked.
She smiled and instead pointed her finger at my chest and then pointed at me.
"What is your age." She said more slowly.
I smiled.
"Since you are asking repeatedly I am 19 years old." I said slowly right back while smiling.
She smiled a lot wider.
"I am 17 so that is perfect!" she said smiling.
"Why are you here?" she said jumping to the next question.
I pointed at my stomach and she looked at me confused.
"A stomachache?" she said.
"No. I have appendicitis I have a surgery scheduled but..." I trailed.
She looked up at me and smiled.
"But you're scared? You're a lot older and bigger than me and your afraid of a little surgery?" she said confused.
"It's not a little surgery...I don't like being left unconscious not sure of what might happened." I said disturbed.
I felt something soft on my shoulder and I looked down and saw it was her hand.
"Don't worry it's not that scary. The doctors know what they are doing so there is no need to worry. Plus each time I have to undergo it I just say a small prayer and know everything is going to be alright." She said.
"Each time?" I said confused.
She released her hand from my shoulder and she smiled.
"I have undergone a lot of surgeries." She said while pointing to her heart.
"Its not so good and there hasn't been a match for me lately so I have to wait and see." She said sadly.
"Lately?" I said confused.
Kittu's smiled faltered.
"I had a transplant five years ago but it seemed that my body wasn't accepting it and I was getting sick and to the point I had to stay here...but that doesn't matter. I have a new friend to talk to." She said slightly blushing.
I wanted to touch her but I balled my hand to the side.
I barely know her and its best not to make her feel like I pity her.
Instead I gave her a small smile and touched her forehead and smiled.
"Hang in there. Plus I will pray for your safe recovery." She said.
I looked at her and thought she was kidding but she began clasping her hands together and said a small prayer before she looked up.
"You didn't...you didn't have to do that. You barely know me." I said.
She looked at me confused and looked at me skeptically.
"Why wouldn't I? I would wish nothing but safety and wellness for my friend." She said.
"Friend? We barely met in less than five minutes?" I said confused.
"So? Is there a rule saying how long one can become friends?" she said.
I looked at her and she was looking at me with a serious expression and I smiled.
I rubbed my hand in her hair, playfully messing up her hair.
"Hey!" she said touching her hand to mine, not really stopping but playing along.
"I don't...I guess I wouldn't mind being your friend." I said smiling softly.
She looked stunned and she shyly looked up as she removed my hand from her head.
She was blushing.
I looked confused.
"Are you not feeling good again?" I said concerned.
I placed my hand on her head and she looked stunned.
"Um no..no...no...no I'm fine." She said while stuttering.
I smiled.
"That's good. I'm going to need my friend when I'm done with surgery." I said smiling.
She looked stunned and she looked up and she stared at me.
"What's wrong?" I said confused.
She shook her head and she smiled.
She took her hand in mine and before I could say anything she dragged me towards the door.
"Since you're ready Anand I will go bring you to your sister so you could go to surgery. That is a very serious condition and if you're scheduled for surgery we better take you to your family fast." She said.
"Wait Kittu..." I said trying to stop her from dragging me but once again that burst of energy she had came once more.
She stopped actually and she smiled.
"You called me by my name. Let's get you to surgery fast...the sooner you finish the sooner we can play." She said pulling me with her.
I looked at her and she was eager and pouting that I was not going along with her and I smiled and I laughed.
"Okay Kittu I will go." I said smiling and I let her take me to find Shraddha.
