Anna's Side Story
"Cannot believe it..."
"It's disgusting..."
"She is always hanging around a group of guys..."
"Its eerie how similar they look to one another, just like her mother..."
"Isn't she the daughter of the woman who slept with..."
"Yeah...yeah...probably doesn't even know who her father is..."
"So disgusting...

I sat by myself in the canteen as everyone else was busy chatting with their friends.
There were some people that were laughing, chatting, and kissing.
The rest, they were busy pointing at me and whispering into one another's ears as they stared at me as if I was some strange anomaly.
I continued to ignore them but soon the whispers became inaudible and when I picked up my juice someone threw it away from the table.
"Ewww...something stinks around here..." A voice said.
I looked up and saw a girl flanked with two of her girlfriends on either side of her with a twisted smirk on her face.
"Is that right Anjali...here maybe you need this." She said and she brought out a perfume bottle and began spritzing it around the air until she got the desire affect that she wanted.
"Mmm...much better...there was something that was really foul smelling but now its cleared up." She said.
"All you did was mask the smell Anjali, its still really disgusting and dirty no matter what you do." Her other crony said while taking her hand and pressing it towards her nose.
"You're right, once something is stained it will always carry around that musk." She said and the rest started laughing.
"Then maybe you should wash yourself off. That is one way to get rid of something that is really foul and disgusting." A deep voice said.
The girls froze in their laughter and soon their smirks and twisted grins became a full fledged smile.
They turned around and chased after the voice and I looked to see him with a pissed off expression.
"Hey, Anil we..." The girls started but he ignored them and walked towards me.
I stared at him and he stood in front of me despite the shock gasps of the girls and the rest of the onlookers.
He smiled and before I knew it he bent down and stared at me in my face.
"Why are you not saying anything?" he said.
I shrugged.
"They are bitter so what is the point. It's not like they have the brains nor the outward appeal so they have to use what they have to bring someone such as myself down." I said with a smirk.
They turned to me and there were death glares directed at me and I looked away from Anil towards them.
"Maybe the smell that you were complaining about earlier was your breath, it smell like garlic and onions." I said and the girls were almost ready to head into a fight until two of Anil's friends intercepted.
"Calm down now girls, what is the point of fighting?" One of his friends's said.
"Let's make peace not war." The other said while touching one of the girls hands and lifting it upwards to kiss her hand.
I heard laughter and looked at Anil who was smiling at me and I felt myself blush but I quickly masked it by looking away.
"What do you want?"
"You skipped out eating lunch with us...are you that mad at me?" he asked while pouting.
"You are annoying." I said ignoring his question.
Instead he smiled.
"So that means you aren't. Great, I wanted to go out on a date today!" he said while smiling even more.
I looked back at him.
"Are you deaf, I said you are annoying, leave me alone." I said.
Instead he pouted and squeezed his ears with his fingers.
"I'm sorry Anna, I'm sorry for making you sad, I'm sorry...I'm sorry. I will never leave you alone ever again." He said while staring at me.
I felt my heart starting to beat faster and I could feel my face become warm.
"Who says I was sad?" I said.
I felt something touch my cheek and I looked at him as he stared at me.
"You are always sad when you are by yourself." He said sadly.
I slapped his hands away from my face.
"Don't butter me up." I said.
"I'm not...I'm sorry for leaving you by yourself and not letting you know that I had to go home early because my mother asked me to...sorry Anna." He said.
I looked at him at the side of my vision and folded my hands together.
"You promise? If you leave me alone again I will never forgive you? If you are not in my sight at least within five feet I will beat you until you are bloody pulp." I said threateningly.
He smiled and laughed a cheerful laugh causing his hazel eyes to sparkle and I could feel myself being drawn towards them even more.
He stopped laughing and stared back at me and I felt my heart stop for a few seconds before it picked up its rhythm.
He leaned down towards me and he stared at me.
"I love you Anna...I will never ever leave you..." He said while smiling causing his dimples to show on his cheeks.
"MOMMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I quickly got up with a start and saw a pair of two mischievous hazel eyes staring back at me and I looked at them confused.
Two Anil's?
I blinked my sleep filled eyes until I saw brown and crme colored ceiling of our bedroom.
I stretched but before I got the chance to fully do so the two little Anil's jumped on top of me.
No not Anil's...they were Anya and Samer...
They just happened to look so much like their father at times that it was startling.
Especially Anya when she laughed, her dimples...her dimples formed on both of her cheeks just like her father.
"Momma get up you are late." They both said.
I groaned but I rolled over...
"No momma! Get up! Get up!" they said...
The little buggers...
"Argh!!!! You guys are horrible! Hush so momma can go back to sleep." I said while pulling the blankets over but instead they came back even more this time giggling and laughing, having fun in harassing me.
"Urgh!!!" I said getting up and grabbing both of them.
They squealed.
"I won't let you go you two!" I said and began tickling them.
Soon childish squeals and laughter could be heard throughout the room.
Anya was twisting around, trying to get away from my hands while Samer was pushing her towards me so he could avoid contact.
Their was a knock on the door and all three of us looked up to see the disapproving gaze of maa.
"Its already seven in the morning and neither of you guys are ready. Anya, Samer, I asked you guys to go brush your teeth, why are you here?" she said.
She was wearing a scowl on her face, causing the lines around her mouth to show and annoyance was showing in her hazel eyes.
"Sorry dada ji we were trying to wake up momma." They both said apologetically.
"Enough of that...go get ready for school." She said while scolding them.
"Chill-lax maa, take your time you two." I said to them.
They looked back at me and smiled and they quickly rushed out passed maa who was giving them a stern expression.
I sighed.
"Let it go maa, they are just kids." I said and I went back to the covers and grabbed my pillow.
She sighed.
"You and Anil have always been too easy going." She said.
I didn't say anything.
"If you forgot, Anil was too easy going with them. I was the bad guy until age two and three for those two." I said while staring at my mass of hair that was mingled in the bed sheets.
She laughed and I looked at her.
"He was...he would give them whatever they want...even to the point when he would give them sweets even when they had to eat dinner...but he was more lenient with you then anyone else." She said.
"I didn't want you guys to get married but that idiot...that idiot said he loved you and was ready on abandoning everything to elope with you." She said.
At that I paused and jumped out of bed and yawned.
She looked at me surprise.
"You should thank me then that I talked him out of it." I said while winking at her.
"I don't know if I should..." she said.
I laughed.
"Sorry maa but I forgot that I have to go to work early so I will be getting ready I will meet you downstairs." I said while quickly giving her a hug and kissing her cheek and staring back at her.
"Don't do that when you didn't brush your teeth." She said.
I pouted.
"So mean of you, why is maa so cold to me." I said while sulking.
"It's not being cold, your breath stinks." She said.
I pouted but drew away.
"I'm getting ready so you don't have to worry about my smelly breath." I said.
"Okay." She said while chuckling.
It took me no more than 45 minutes to quickly shower, get dress, and style my hair into a bun.
I quickly put sindoor in my hair, put on my mangalsutra, and my wedding ring onto my finger.
I looked at myself in the mirror before I grabbed my bag.
I quickly went to the portrait that was in my room with Ahil smiling back at me, his stupid dimples evident in each one.
I quickly clasped my hands together and closed my eyes.
I'm off for work today. Don't get too lonely without me, I'm coming back home so wait for me. I love you...
I said quickly and released my hands and let them fall from my side.
I stared at his picture for a moment and felt tears were close in falling instead I smiled back at him.
"You said you weren't going to leave me alone ever again ...you lied. You didn't keep your promise...but this time I will forgive you." I said while sticking my tongue out at his photo.
I then turned away from his photo to head downstairs for breakfast.

I was busy doing rounds on the fifth floor, not on the usually third and fourth floor as I changed shifts with another nurse that had to attend her friend's wedding.
I quickly finished all my rounds and I could feel my body starting to lag and feel tired.
I went to the rooftop to eat my lunch as it was probably the most peaceful area within the hospital.
I opened the door to the roof and was surprised to hear childish laughter and a deeper male voice that was filled with amusement.
I looked up and saw Anand and Kittu.
What are they doing up here?
They were both holding onto something and I realized it was a kite.
"No...no...no...no don't do that it starting to fall again..."
"But...but if I don't..."
"No Anand, to the left...to the left..."
"It's to the left...it's to the left." Anand said back.
I chuckled to myself.
"No Anna it's not flying its starting to fall down..."
"Its's your fault...you said lets fly on top of her it would be good but I said let's fly down on the ground but nooo...you never listen to me."I said annoyed.
"No that isn't..." Anil stuttered.
"Here! Since you know so much you fly it!" I said annoyed and put the string holder into his hands.
"Anna...but..."
"No buts!" I said while walking away from him.
"Kittu..." Anand voice broke through my thoughts.
"Kittu...I'm sorry, we can fly it together. I'm sorry." He said.
Kittu had her hands folded together but after more coercing she finally gave in and turned back to Anand.
They continued flying their kite and instead of arguing they went back to laughing and giggling in their childish selves.
I smiled.
"It seems they solved it without me even getting involved."
I looked down at the lunchbox I had and dug into my pocket for a small notepad and pen and quickly scribbled something on it before I put it on the can.
Don't get caught next time you sneak up here. However, eat something before you come back down. -Anna.
I quietly placed it on the side of the door and quietly closed it back without disturbing them.
I went quietly back downstairs to get something from the vending machine.
I stretched.
"Ahhh...today is going to be a long day..." I said while yawning.
