Shazia Iqbal's Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, hit theaters this Friday. A remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal and a spiritual successor to the 2018 film Dhadak, the film earned Rs 4.31 crore net in India on its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk.
Dhadak 2 opened with an estimated Rs 4.31 crore net in India, according to trade sources. Most notably, Dhadak 2's opening is less than half of the Rs 8.71 crore earned by the original Dhadak in 2018.
Speaking about the movie and the vision behind it, Siddhant Chaturvedi told PTI, “It is a huge responsibility... A lot of the credit goes to our director, who from day one was very sure of what she wanted and how she wanted to tell the story, how the characters should be, and she didn't want to over-dramatise anything or oversimplify anything. She just wanted things to be as they are in reality.”
Review by India Forums
In a time when Bollywood is often accused of playing it safe, Dhadak 2 dares to go where few mainstream films do. It doesn't just aim to entertain, it aims to expose, to engage, and to make you think long after the credits roll.
Dhadak 2 had its fair share of hurdles before reaching the big screen. With multiple cuts, revisions, and tense back-and-forths with the CBFC, the film's journey was anything but smooth. One can't help but wonder how raw, bold, and unfiltered the original vision might have been, perhaps even more piercing without the imposed restraints. Yes, it's not perfect. Yes, it could have added more polish to certain arcs. But what it lacks in finesse, it more than makes up for in heart. In intent. In courage.
About Dhadak
Inspired by the Tamil film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ and a spiritual successor to ‘Dhadak,’ the film follows Nilesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), a law student from a marginalized community, and his romance with Vidhi (Triptii Dimri), who hails from an upper-caste family. The narrative explores the humiliation and harassment Nilesh faces from Vidhi's family, who seek to protect their honor.
