PART 3

That evening, Kalpi went along her daily routine aimlessly, waiting for Kamla to come back. Vitthal went to pick her up from the bus stop and Kalpi knew that he would have told Kamla everything about what had happened that day. She had dinner all laid out when her parents entered the house. Kamla hugged both her children affectionately and kept the conversation very general. Kalpi heaved a sigh of relief, though her heart was not into the mundane conversation. She was eager to know if her aai had prayed for her as much as she would have for Pakhi.

Kalpi was sitting outside gazing at the stars, reminiscing about the night when she had accepted and confessed her love to Raghav. It seemed to be so long ago. Just then she heard foot-steps behind her. Kamla came and sat next to her. Kalpi smiled at her aai, but did not get one in return. "Whose prayer was accepted aai?" she asked hopefully. Kamla knew that she had to crush the nave hopes in her daughter's eyes and voice. Rubbing her hair gently she said, "Vitthoba supported me in my decision and that means you have to forget Raghav and start your life afresh".

" I will never forget Raghav. He is a part of my heart and soul. His love and sindoor are the truths of my life." The finality with which Kalpi said this, unnerved Kamla.

"You have no other choice Kalpi but to accept this option for the sake of your parents and yourself. I cannot tell your father the truth." Having said this she left Kalpi alone, who was struggling to control her tears.

Next morning, Raghav reached the office very early. He had not slept well last night and was very irritable. He had several meetings lined up, some related to his work, but some which would put his revenge in action. Sammy walked in his cabin with the private investigator that he had hired. Sammy was the only person who had clues to the workings of his mind.

Raghav still kept tabs on Sahil Kapoor and periodically got updates from the PI. He was working as an accountant in a small company. He had not been able to get another accommodation, which was largely because of Raghav's PI. The owner of the company where he worked was fully aware of Raghav's equation with Sahil Kapoor. Raghav had done a few favors to make his company successful and he owed. He made sure that Sahil worked at the office as a low level employee, taking orders and reprimand from his superiors.

Very soon, Raghav's lawyer also joined the meeting. Raghav asked him to quietly reopen the police case related to the death of his father. "It will be difficult without having new evidence." The lawyer stated. "However, we could attempt that citing your mother as the sole eyewitness. If you have any connections in the police, then it will be more helpful".

Raghav remembered ACP Khan who had previously helped him in other situations and was almost a good friend. Raghav's company had also constructed his dream house in Goa. He made a mental note of calling him personally.

The conversation then shifted to Neetu Kapoor. Raghav's mind was burning with the thought that that mean woman was creating problems for his Kalpi in her own house. She did not appreciate Kamla ma's kindness and deserved to be taught a lesson. Akash, his PI, suggested that the chawl was on Singhania land, so legally Singhanias could disallow anyone from staying at the chawl. Raghav agreed with the PI's suggestion, however, the timing of Kapoors being thrown on the street needed to coincide with the reopening of police case for the success of the entire plan.

After everyone left, Raghav sat brooding in his office. He was feeling a strange pain in his heart, knowing that Kalpi was in misery all alone. He was torn between his mother and Kalpi. His mother wanted to make the Kapoors suffer for a 1 year before bringing them to justice. " No I cannot do that. I will only make Kalpi agonize along with me in that situation. She is my wife but everyone will consider her wrong. I have to finish this now."
