"Kalpi!!! You are back! Oh God, I'm so happy!"
Kalpi was not prepared for this. She saw the world spin so fast as Paakhi whirl her round and round in her joy. Its only when they bumped with other passer bys that she managed to calm herself down. Yes, she laughed too as Paakhi's enthusiasm was infectious.
Three years! Three years she went away, leaving everything to struggle hard in an unknown place, with no one to help her. She went to work in another branch of Raghav's company and now she's back in Mumbai for her brother, Pakya. Finally, Pakya was tying the knot and she would never miss it in this world.
"I'm happy to see you too Paakhi! How are you and aai, baba, dada? I'm home! Yes. Feels so good!" Kalpi admitted finally as it really overwhelmed her to be back here. It was tough to return here but now she had, she will just forget the past and move on. She's not the frail Kalpi; she's the new strong and confident Kalpi. The right hand of Samar Raizada, her boss for the past three years.
"Oh everyone is just fine and so happy you are coming. I've come to pick you up as everyone's busy at the chawl. And didn't Sammy make it through?" Paakhi asked with a little frown.
"No, he is busy in urgent piled up files. If he frees himself, he'll definitely come. Then, we'll leave together again after the wedding." Kalpi knew she was lying and she hated it. Sammy sir was free, playing squash maybe. He turned down Kalpi's invitation to come down to Mumbai as he wanted no contact with Raghav. The verbal spat they had long back was still raw for him.
"What? No! You'll have to stick for at least one week! What fun will it be if you'll be here only for the ceremonies?" Paakhi dragged her and her luggage to her car.
"No, Paakhi, I need to go as fast as I came. Work, you know!" Kalpi tried to mellow everything.
"What work? I'll talk to Raghav! He'll see to it that you both get one week off."
Kalpi's heart missed a beat when she heard Raghav's name.
"Leave all this, how's work? hmmm, with Mr. Akdoo?" teased Kalpi.
"You say! Truly, Kalpi, I don't know what happened three years back among the three of you. You and Sammy sir moving to the other branch, Raghav sir becoming like a grizzly bear day by day. He is just like a maniac, I tell you. How much I tried to make him smile, he never even twitch his lips, even in his legendary smirk. I eventually gave up. He terrorizes everyone with his black moods and dangerous attitudes. Projects on projects, sacking each and every assistant I get for your ex post and needing reports on daily basis on your branch's work. Just what happened Kalpi?" asked a really anxious Paakhi.
"Why bring it up now Paakhi? It's over and done with. Weird he was since day 1, that's not because of us that he became like what you say." Kalpi tried to justify herself.
"It's only last week when you called and announced your return that I saw him react like he's got an electric jolt in his life. I think he is missing Sammy a lot! There is no other explanation for it, isn't it?"
Kalpi was unable to speak. So she just nodded and 10 minutes later, they reached the chawl. She was welcomed warmly by kamla and Vitthal. Kamla shed some happy tears when she saw her daughter after so long whereas Vitthal was quiet and held her princess's hand firmly close to his heart. Pakya came around smeared with Saffron as his haldi ceremony was just over; lifted his sister up in a huge hug and spun her around, making her laugh heartily.
"let me go dada! You've ruined my dress!" cried Kalpi to an unmindful Pakya.
"That's fair enough. You've missed my haldi." Pakya settled her down and she started to give him a merry chase around the chawl with a dollop of Haldi in her hand, while everyone looked on happily.
Suddenly Kalpi bumped into someone very hard. She nearly fell backward when strong hands held her and saved her from touching ground.
She lifted her eyes up to meet the darker ones, with a whirlpool of intense emotion welled up in there. That of none other than Raghav Singhania's.
