Wow, Rekha!
I miss Red's writing! ❤️ That was bang on analysis on Suman.👏

Why do you think she is so elusive to us and Shravan?

Because we all analyse.

In the process, we forget who Suman is.

She is too simple- beyond our comprehension..and Shravan's. There in comes ultimately what defines Suman's character- it is the INNOCENCE that comes across as arrogance and ego.

And for the life of her, she cannot understand what went wrong between her and Shravan. That is because she doesn't understand the complexities of the way Shravan thinks. She is too straightforward for Tedha Shravan...She is not a saint, but she is a rarity.

There is a world of difference in the way their intellect functions. Shravan has read every great book written, debated every point, knows the ways of the world.

Suman would not have spent her time on anything beyond a cook book. Her way of thinking is too simple. She just wants to make sure the people around her are happy. Indeed, she doesn't know how to say the 'I'.

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
Clare Boothe Luce

No wonder Shravan is not able to crack this puzzle that is her. Until he changes his perspective, the puzzle is only going to look more and more crooked to him! 😉😳

J,

On Shravan's need to be needed by Suman- it was not me who had mentioned it. But that is quite understandably one of his basic needs- 'PCT is your life and it is my right alone to give you what you love the most'. How else would he qualify to be called Sumo ka Shravan? 😉😆

Hmmm...Thats ofc one way of putting it but I would like to say...she is elusive becos we all have preconceived notions (some that are absolutely logical some some situational ) that differ in the way the writer interprets her.

For instance, I expected Sumo during the PCT Aditya fiasco to realise that she had mucked up with her acceptance of the deal from Aditya and her actions having caused the issue between Shravan and her. I am sure the writer also wanted to portray this which is why there was that double Sumo scene . yet, in execution, the direction, writing (?) appeared vague or too short a scene to have that desired impact becos the double Sumo scene while intending to convey that, actually remain elusive to many viewers...

My interpretation for that scene was ..her younger childish Sumo telling the older Sumo that she had no one now except Nanu and therefore keeping aside her expectations from the only one person she had allowed herself to expect from...Shravan. That scene was intending to convey the spirit of Sumo...the one who will never let the world know what's in her mind, if possible not even her own alter ego...however the real writing in that scene is a subtlety that most will miss unless they are completely clued into and many will argue including me...that it is too layered for us to accept...Here is where the famous Red's perspective comment comes into play.

I understood the scene only after a chat with Red...I will ask Red to post that explanation or defi ask her if I can post her explanation in quotes...its a beautiful one. However I still say the scene was not that well executed...or the writers could have juxtaposed it with some relevant FBs to help the scene along.

Yes...Chick I agree...an innocence that is drunk on overconfidence...😉 but not arrogance..

@underlined I am not sure I comepletely buy that point becos the Ayn Rand quote is intended to mean something else...My reading of Sumo is not that of a spiritual parasite...rather a vibrant person in love...😊 I will respond to Nith's post on this...becos I want to understand her interpretation more clearly.

@sanfan, @chicksoup

Suman is not a simple character in my opinion. She is a person with complex layers.

My 2 paisa about her,
She is like a fish whose memory is exactly one min. For such a fish the world looks anew every one minute.

She has a deep memory of her feelings. This is deep in her subconscious almost fossilised. That is why she instinctively trusts few people. Before even thinking about them. There in lies her innocence. She blindly follows some people even if it is not in her best interest. Like Naanu and Shravan. She allows herself to be emotionally blackmailed into relationships because that fossil in her heart will never let her do otherwise.

Whereas she has a very short memory for the things that people actually do. She forgets about the actual action that has taken place. Only the impact of bad events is left as a footprint in her subconscious mind. Slowly eroding away at her fossil.

Even after Shravan has insulted her so much she still believes their marriage will work. It will take a long time for her to stop loving him even if he is mean to her every minute and second.

When she bases her decision on her deep subconscious she makes the right decision. She appears really mature then. When she judged Adithya as being intrusive she thought he was not part of the fossil and hence he has no business in her personal matters.

If she relies on her short term memory it is almost like a knee jerk reaction. She appears immature and foolish. It is because she cannot for the life of her remember the events that have occurred. In that way she is the other diametric opposite of most women who can never seem to forget a thing. 😆

She cannot introspect much because she doesn't remember enough to introspect! All she remembers are vague bits and pieces. Which might be totally unrelated to the issue at hand! Like she remembered keeping younger Shravan waiting. In fact younger Shravan has made her wait for TEN long years. And she forgot that part in her introspection. It was not her turn to wait at all. Logically speaking. 😃

So she is perfect for Shravan because he might say some mean things but she forgets about such actions/words quickly. And Shravan's love is so deep that it makes up for all the bad times that he causes.

Not saying she is a basket case! 😆 She is an emotionally complex individual who has a conveniently short memory. It does not take much to keep her happy.

This is just my take to explain some discrepancies I see in her sometimes. Very sagacious and mature at one time, whereas foolish and impulsive at other times.

Who is Red ?
And chick, I agree with you completely about Sumo being simple, how true 😊, takes everything at face value, she is like a child sometimes.
"Do you really miss me ?" 🤣 What do you know Suman Tiwari 😉 If she could understand what she is to him, that will be the end of the show. Thankfully Sumo lacks that understanding.

@bold : Of course ! He has to be her "Hero"

Yes. You seem to keep going back to that double Sumo scene.

Somehow it didn't strike as odd to me because...I really don't know why.
I had not expected to connect Shravan's actions there...because I somehow felt more for her own plight. His reaction had been so devastating that she was not in a frame of mind to analyse what was going wrong with their relationship.

Yes she should have connected that especially since Aditya had said that Shravan had been reluctant to share something...Or she could have thought that Shravan finally let Aditya help her.

But he had been very clear about what had annoyed him...and she had concentrated on how her thinking had failed her. Aur main yahan soch rehi thi... By then the deed was done. She had accepted Aditya's help...If Shravan had not meant to help her, why did he release the papers in the first place? - A question only tedha Shravan can answer...because Suman can never think in his twisted way. 😉😆

The chhotti Sumo made an appearance to help her swallow the bitter pill...told her to stop living in the world of dreams...told her to be strong for herself, because Shravan made no sense to her...She had agreed to Aditya thinking it was Shravan's idea too. When it turned out it wasn't, she must have been flabbergasted. All she did had been to accept help because it came in the form of an acceptance of her capabilities- Aditya had drilled that into her mind. Who was Shravan if he couldn't see why she accepted Aditya's help, and went on to insult everything they had shared all these years.

This is not how she would react if the roles had been reversed.

"To say I love you' one must first know how to say the 'I'" -Ayn Rand

Suits Suman well from how I understand her. Because she had kind of hinted on this to Ramnath too...in relation to her self respect. She had asked him what she or anyone would be without their self respect.

But the I extends to beyond self respect. It also encompasses loving oneself...A lesson Shravan would have to teach Sumo, I hope.

Your last line describes her well, GD.👏

When it comes to Shravan she would gladly give up all the bad memories and act as if they never existed, I guess. That is because deep down, she has not forgiven herself for that incident...she will not, until she is convinced Shravan has grown beyond the reach of that.

But not at the expense of her self respect- especially when he declares war on it...had she been required to sacrifice her feelings and happiness for him when he truly needed it, she'd gladly give it all up...but not when he seems to derive some pleasure out of bullying her...because she knows that is fundamentally wrong for her and for him.😊
