Nith it means that when in love, if you only seek love for the peace and pleasure it gives u, such a lover is better off bypassing the hard fields where love has to toil to be rewarded and felt...Love will test you at all times. and wound you by taking you beyond yourself too at times...But is there any other way to love...after life is too short not to love for love's sake alone.

The poem is about loving more deeply, honestly, bravely...

One more question though, so does it mean that a lover who is afraid to go through this path doesn't love at all ?

I completely understand if you don't answer. I can be annoying sometimes, I know.

LOL...Not at all...It does not mean that at all...I don't think it should be necessary to seek pain in love...or that pain is the only barometer to measure love...though pain may be an accompaniment is what is hinted at. It's like music, a lot of soulful music comes the feeling of melancholy. But does that mean songs that signify happiness are any less precious?

On your specific question of a lover afraid to go through the path of pain...well...In a romantic sense, these make sense but let's accept that why should a person choose to put himself/herself through deliberate pain to enjoy love's labour...i would say it would be foolish to not be able to make a distinction of what is pain that can be endured and pain that can be avoiced.

Actually I have not read much of Khalil Gibran except for quotes like this-, everything by him that I have come across is amazing!

This one is like an ultimatum...a forewarning...a verdict.

I can understand the thought reverberating on the reader's mind.

Love's threshing floor- where the chaff would be separated from the wheat...

Only a man or woman who can bear the pain that love offers can go on to enjoy love's peace and pleasure. Pain is inevitable...as not a punishment or a test...but as the ultimate training ground...

One needs to be able to go through that threshing floor to come out fine and polished and beautiful...fear of that threshing floor is nakedness. If one is not able to get over that naked fear, better to cover that nakedness and leave.

Love's threshing floor- it is a sacred ground.

In practical terms, it simply means- if you have loved, you will have the courage. Because the pain you are bearing is for the one you love.
