LOL..😆😆.

But let me tell you its not true...its not that the writers here know Shravan and Sumo more than the CVs...Any work of art/fiction...must have this quality...of inspiration...As a viewer, reader, writer, one must be inspired by that work to weave one's imagination around it. There is only so much that can be revealed in the spoken word or deed or thought process. The toughest part for a creator is to stay as true to the character traits envisaged as possible as the plot develops...In a good story, there should not be too many questions why did the character behave so and so way.

This, we cannot take away anything from the creative process. Shravan, Sumo ...indeed almost all the characters are interesting in EDKV...there is something to analyse in their deeds and words.

Even if it is not as the CVs envisaged, if they inspire people to wax eloquent, it means the creative effort has fructified and is a success... 😊

EDKV has a superb style of story telling tho it has its flaws too (i guess the medium is to blame for that tho) but personally i have enjoyed its style. If u are able to deliver even 2 mins worth in a 22 min it's a great thing...

I'm so glad that we were able to persuade you into writing this piece on semantics, Indrani! As you well know, I had been struggling with the reasons for Shravan to accept the marriage. Reading this, I begin to see how the marriage is really Shravan's choice, his desire - a reality that he doesn't want to accept, and is desperate to hide under the glare of a rude and uncaring exterior.

His despair and disillusionment now makes all the more sense. Imagine having to "find" reasons to get married to the person you have been hopelessly in love with for the better part of your wise years. And even then while you find your reason, you do so with a heart shattered by the belief (however mistaken here) that he was just a compromise for her. She was NOT choosing him.

We have heard Sumo say that she is going to do whatever it takes to make the marriage work. And Shravan's promise to his Dad that Sumo will not walk the Nirmala route also portends that he will also do all it takes to make sure their marriage doesn't break. Their paths might be different - Sumo's more positive, while Shravan's seems more cave-man-ish. (Make her toe the line? Yeah right! She'll have you eating out of her hand with just a few smiles, IF she decides to get cute with you. But with Sumo, you never know what gets her back up! Anyway, totally digressing here! 😆) So while their paths might seem different, their goal is really the same - not letting go of each other.

We see the deep rift between SS...but a chasm always evoke the distance between two points of axis as well as embodies the connection between these axis...Chasm of what Shravan feels for Sumo and how it is stated, chasm between his intentions and how the circumstances play out...yet, in evoking this gulf what becomes obvious is both his actions and intentions are stated to bridge this chasm

Quoting Indrani:

Ten years before...a friendship started because of a challenge ...can you complete this puzzle of a cube...in one a half minutes...Someone had rose to that challenge...Yesterday, it was the other half who did not hold back ...and took the plunge...to answer Kaun Sumo? The girl who loved...

I said this in a post somewhere that Shravan Sassy Malhotra yesterday was very smug in the belief that he made Sumo toe his line, bend to his will. It'll take some time, but he'll realize soon enough that she really signed for one reason and one reason only - her love for him and the faith that she has in him. Nothing else would have induced his Sumo to sign on the dotted line yesterday. Once he gets that... 😃

You know, it sounds so simple when you guys - you, Rekha, and Glassdoor - explain it. J You guys gave me one big DUH! Moment today - thank you!

Yes, Anu...she did not sign because there was no way out, she did not sign on the dotted line because she was helpless...she signed because she believed in love, love for him. Likewise, the lawyer did not go through this charade merely to score few brownie points...he did not even let his father come to know of his decision...He could have said a no to the marriage itself,, yet went ahead on this course...as he had no option ...because all his choices lead to her and springs from her😳😃
Thank you Anu...and accepting the thanks on everyone's behalf😆

My dearest sister... A big bear hug for you... I love you so much for writing this... And you know that already!! 😳
🤗
This is awesomeness at a different level... What analysis, such insights... The Chasm.. Such an appropriate title...

The word play, these two people, the intertwining of their lives n fates n also of the Friday's n yesterday's episodes...simply magnificent.. And when you describe it like this... Uncluttered, bang on ...beautiful... 😳
I have nothing more to say on this coz I'm not fit (for the lack of a better word) enough to write more on this brilliance...
I did understand correct though, I take that as a compliment to me!! 😉 I wrote to you about my thoughts on this...n the thinking is similar but I couldn't articulate it so well..
And yes, I know how the tedha Shravan has affected you... Me too!! And I love him only except when he spits shit... Otherwise the tedha Shravan is love..

Thank you Rosh...🤗 And yes..you did figure it out correctly😃
Yes, Shravan tedha or seddha has affected us...though when he spouts those meanies...one feels like giving him a hard whack...
But, there is always a chasm in those words he speaks and what is implied by his silences

J, you actually understood the real meaning of semantics which implies relationships between signs, signifier and signified...and an unending chain of signification. Meaning is never stable and more so, it is never finite...SO, if you were moving from link to link to link...it only meant you have captured the spirit of smenatics or post-structralism quite well😆😉

So just capturing a few lines 😉 for those like me who are more aware of Semantic web than the semantics of the lines

  • I will not be happy with any girl => Dad, mind it. Do not say later that my marital issues are because Sumo is my wife. So buzz off.
  • I will not let another Nirmala Ahuja => Dad, whatever tricks you try in future - I wiill not let Sumo go away. She is in my life for good.
  • Chota Sa Kaam => Sumo, we are in love from time immemorial. And we will continue to be till death do us apart. Wedding is just a miniscule moment in the larger picture.
  • Pati- Patni => It takes two to tango. Sumo, come join me in the dance 😃
  • It is easy to get married but difficult to get out of => Hey client , you do not know Pushpa. I know what kind of roller coaster ride my life is going to be 😆. I have to be on my toes all the time lest I be thrown out tangentially.

This is the chasm which I really believe that the lawyer will not be able to or even willing to bridge...he will just let this chasm be manifest in his life eternally...

As usual, J...your pithy statemnets elucidate what I couldnt do in a whole long essay...You are a marvel😆

👏Wow, Indrani!
Beautiful!

The poem just so well describes Shravan and Suman...

The one dialogue that sounded odd to me- Sumo ne promise kiya hai ki shaaadi ke baad hum jo chahte hei woh kar sakte hai.

At first I wondered who was this hum?😕 Shravan and Suman?

But then it dawned on me- it was Suman Vs the Rest of the world...😉..with Shravan in it.😆 I found that a very cute statement. He was ganging up against her with her family.

And Suman agreed for this marriage, trusting her sixth sense that told her Shravan must still feel something for her. How true! Also how tragic that he would swear she was not the reason! Ramnath hinted on the same, but Suman's optimism refuses to take a beating. But the way he ditched her twice- once at the court and then at the bidaai- I wonder how unshaken that optimism still would be!

No rights and wrongs when it comes to analysing the two- when one does not exist without the other.

And here are the reasons I fell in love with this pair.

"You're beautiful, but you're empty...One couldn't die for you. Of course, an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than all of you together, since she's the one I've watered. Since she's the one I put under glass, since she's the one I sheltered behind the screen. Since she's the one for whom I killed the caterpillars (except the two or three butterflies). Since she's the one I listened to when she complained, or when she boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing at all. Since she's my rose."

"You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed."

"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important."

"In those days, I didn't understand anything. I should have judged her according to her actions, not her words. She perfumed my planet and lit up my life. I should never have run away! I ought to have realized the tenderness underlying her silly pretensions. Flowers are so contadictory! But I was too young to know how to love her."

"Of course, I love you,' the flower said to him. 'If you were not aware of it, it was my fault."

This is what makes a love story perfect for me.
