Kalyani Saha shares memories of Sunjay Kapur while Priya Sachdev’s lawyer labels will dispute 'wife vs wife'

On the birth anniversary of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, his close friend Kalyani Saha shared a heartfelt tribute, alongside unseen pictures of him with his wife Priya Sachdev and children. The post on Instagram celebrated Sunjay’s meticulous planning and devotion to his family, even as the legal dispute over his will continues in court.

Sunjay’s legacy, she wrote, was built around care for those he was responsible for. “For a man who planned his life meticulously and everybody else’s who he was responsible for… for their entire future… a man whose long-term goals were only to build on the happiness that Priya and he worked so hard to bring about. This beautiful blended family of camaraderie. A rare feat in the world we live in. The biggest example of what Love really looked like. With Priya. His soulmate and partner who truly was the woman behind this very successful man which he became,” Kalyani wrote.

She added, “Sunjay was a husband to Priya, setting goals of what it really means to be in a relationship. He was a dedicated father who had worked on a constitution, literally, to make sure the children will always be okay. And it is this very planning in his methodical manner that today I see crumbling as the love is fragmented. Grief brings in confusion. Loss brings in insecurities.”

Kalyani concluded her note, “But Sunjay had worked so hard to make sure that even today nobody can really question that. I want my Sunjay to rest in peace. I want him to know (someday soon) there may have been a hiccup but it’s water under that bridge. He always made ripples… all his life. But he needs to know this storm needs to pass for the calm to bring back his dearest ones… together and in harmony. I pray for his soul to rest in peace… soon. Last but not the least, thank you for giving Tahira a god brother @priyaskapur.”

The tribute comes amid a heated legal battle over Sunjay Kapur’s will. Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a suit in the Delhi High Court alleging that Priya forged their father’s will, effectively excluding them from his estate. Priya’s counsel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, countered the claims, stating that there is “no valid legal challenge” to the will dated March 21, 2025, under which Sunjay’s assets were bequeathed.

Priya Sachdev’s Lawyer Responds

During Wednesday’s hearing, Nayar noted, “I ask myself in which proceeding are we putting the Will to issue? This is not a probate proceeding. You have not challenged the execution or validity of the Will in the pleadings. There is no declaration sought for cancelling it.” He added that minor errors such as spelling mistakes or witness closeness do not invalidate a will. “Forgery has to be complete; no mistakes would be left. And this lady (Priya Kapur) is not a housewife; she is an investment banker. Would she spell her son’s name wrong?” he asked.

Nayar further stated, “A will is not judged by whose custody it remained in or when it surfaced, but by whether it bears genuine signatures and proper attestation… This is wife versus wife—obviously, the current wife would be preferred, not the estranged one. The execution of the will and the course of disclosure have been detailed. There is no basis for assuming a different narrative.”

Sunjay Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading auto parts manufacturer, passed away in June in London while playing polo. His cause of death was later confirmed as a heart attack. Sunjay was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, with whom he had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. He married Priya Sachdev in 2017, forming a blended family that remains central to the ongoing legal proceedings.
