Hi Friends,
A very short ShraMan OS, a little something to cheer us up. The idea is actually Anu's (an_chau) so full credit to her for that 😊 but I have taken some creative liberties. The title is bad, I couldn't come up with a better one. Hope you all like the story. All comments and criticism welcome

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had been five days since the wedding, an uneasy calm prevailed in Shravan's room. It had been awkward at first, after Puskar and Preeti left them alone. For two people who knew each other for so long, there seemed to be nothing to talk about. The way the room was decorated made both of them uncomfortable.

No, they weren't ready for this, not after the way the wedding happened.

There had been a deafening silence in the car, but now Shravan couldn't take it any longer.

"Jo Naanaji ne kaha, woh sach tha kya ?"
"Kyon ? Tumhe lagta hai ki Naanu jhoot bolenge ?"

It had been Naanu's advise to her when they left for Malhotra house which made him restless.

"Kabhi bhi jaldbazi mein, gusse mein ya kisi ke dabaav mein aake koi faisla mat lena Suman beta. Jo pichli baar hua, usme meri galti thi. Maine tumpe dabaav dala, par is baar tumne sahi faisla liya hai aur main tum dono ke liye bohout khush hoon. Hamesha muskurati rehna"

What Shravan had done for his father, Sumo had done for Naanu. Suddenly, he felt lighter, happier than he had been in over a month. A few pieces of the puzzle fell in place. This is why she was uncomfortable with Adithya, because he was not her choice at all. His Sumo had not abandoned him. But ... what had he done !

His face fell. He had abandoned her when she needed him the most. He would make it up to her, he vowed.

"Sumo" he said softly
"Suman" she corrected him

Try as he might he couldn't get himself to call her Suman anymore. Was this her idea of a punishment? If so, she was successful. What was the whole point in being a lawyer !

"Tum bed pe so jao, main couch pe so jaonga" he said
"Kyon ? Mujhe dekke dar lagta hai kya ? Zindagi bar aise sone ka irada hai ?" saying that she went straight to bed.

How does one deal with a girl like this? He was trying to be sensitive. Oxford hadn't prepared him for this.

And Shravan Malhotra slept on the bed too. Far enough to keep from touching her yet close enough to watch her while she slept. Four nights had been spent this way, there was uneasiness but there was calm.

She hadn't argued with him at all. In fact, she only spoke when spoken to. And the chances to speak were minimal. She would leave the room before he got up in the morning and by the time he came back after dinner, she would be in bed already. But, Shravan was content, his Sumo was with him, no one could harm her now. He slept better than he had in over a month. The sound of her breathing was music to his ears. But he just wanted her to fight with him, just argue with him for once. He would give anything to have Sumo back, his Sumo.

Shravan didn't realize when he slept. The noise of an ambulance woke him up in the middle of the night. He got up slowly, moved stealthily, not wanting to wake her up. Something wasn't right, she wasn't on the bed.

Shravan was now fully awake. He turned on the lights. Where could she have gone now ? It was almost two in the morning. Was she really sleeping when he went to bed or was she pretending? Had she been doing this everyday and had he not known? How much they had drifted from each other in a month!

He was about to look for her outside the room when he saw her tiny feet behind the couch.

Curious, he walked towards the back of the couch. She was asleep, curled in a fetal position, with a photo in her hands, her mother's. Her tears had left marks on her face while drying. He saw her for what she really was, a broken and abandoned child, whose brave facade came off while she slept. And Shravan Malhotra cried, at his own folly, of not having understood her. His heart broke to see her like this. He got up and got the blanket. He positioned himself comfortably, leaning on the wall and stretching his legs. Then gradually, very delicately moved her head to his lap and covered her with the blanket. He bent down and kissed her forehead.

His Sumo would never cry again, her Shravan was back.

"Tere dukh abb mere, mere sukh abb tere
Tere yeh do naina, chand aur suraj mere
Lakh mana le duniya, sath naa yeh chhutega
Aake mere hatho me, hath naa yeh chhutega
Tere mere sapne abb ek rang hain
Jaha bhee le jaye rahe hum sang hain"
