Sudden Proposal

Next morning, Mrityunjay was quite upset with yesterday night's turmoil. He wanted to meet Aradhana but didn't go to the hospital as he didn't want to spread his gloom.

Aradhana was looking at the door again and again.

"Tara, today Mrityunjay didn't come."

"He might be busy mom. He is a businessman, he has work." Saying this, Tara left the hospital.

Tara convinced her mother but she was not convinced herself by what she said.
"Really, why didn't he come today??"

"Dr. Fahim, come with a team of four doctors and ICU instruments immediately."
"Now let's see my Mrityunjay, how you are not going to marry," smirked Dadaji.

After one hour Dr. Fahim, with all the required things and people, arrived at Shekhawat Mansion.

"Uncle, do you think this is going to work?? I am quite unsure," said Dr. Fahim, arranging the ECG machine.
"You just wait and watch Doctor."

In the evening when Mrityunjay arrived home, he saw an ambulance standing in the driveway. He got tensed. He rushed inside the mansion. He got more frightened seeing two doctors outside Dadaji's room. He ran towards his room.

Dadaji was surrounded by various machines. Dr. Fahim was standing near the machines, checking the readings.

"Dadaji...dadaji...Uncle what happened to him?" Tears were following from Mrityunjay's eyes.

Dr. Fahim patted his back. "He had a minor heart attack."

"Dadaji...dadaji..." He tried to talk to an unconscious Dadaji.

"Mrityunjay act like a man. He doesn't have much time to live. At this stage of life, a minor heart attack is also dangerous."
Mrityunjay was stunned hearing him.

After a few minutes, Dadaji opened his eyes.
"Mrityunjay...Mrityunjay you came..." His voice was breaking.

"Yes Dadaji...I am...I am here."

"Son, I am going to die very soon...After that no one will be there to scold you..." He said breathing heavily.

"No...Dadaji ...you are not going anywhere..." Mrityunjay took Dadaji's hand in his.

Dadaji continued, "I would have only one resentment left...and that ...you ..." He stopped mid way.

"Dadaji I will do everything, whatever you want. First you get well."

"Oh... Mrityunjay...you refused my wish yesterday...I want you to get married...to Tara."

"Ok. Dadaji ...But I can't force this on her."

"But you can ask," said Dr. Fahim.

"Ok, I will ask her tomorrow."

"Why tomorrow?? Why not today?? It's seven in the evening, you still have one hour to visit the hospital and it takes fifteen minutes to reach the hospital. You should go now and ask her."

"Now??" he was quite confused.

"What?? You want your Dadaji's wish to be fulfilled as early as possible or not??"

After hearing this line of Dr. Fahim's, he immediately left for the hospital.

As soon as he left the room, Dr. Fahim sat down on the couch.
"Sigh...Uncle what an actor you are...Sister check my BP..."

"Fahim...see I told you. Our plan will succeed, and see he agreed to get married to Tara."

At the hospital, Mrityunjay was standing outside Aradhana's room, thinking what to say and how, when the door of the room opened and Tara came out.

"Mrityunjay You!!!" She was puzzled seeing him standing there. "Come."
He gave a short smile.

"Namaste Aunty. How are you?"
"I am fine. How are you beta?"
"I am fine."

Mrityunjay was talking to Aradhana but there was a battle going on inside him - what to say and how to say?

After a few minutes of silence, Mrityunjay cleared his throat, took Aradhana's hand in his, caressed it and said, "Aunty you were worried for Tara's marriage, that what will happen to her after you are gone?"

"Yes, beta I am worried." Tara was standing near Aradhana. She caressed her shoulder.

"And what if someone wants to marry her?" he asked moving his gaze to Tara to see her reaction.

"What!!!" Tara was shocked, her eyes were wide open.

"Who is that man Mrityunjay? ...Tell me his name," asked Aradhana. She was happy with this marriage proposal.

"I."

Tara was now even more stunned. Her shocked face, raised eyebrows and awestruck eyes were looking at him in astonishment.
"Did I hear right??"
"You want to marry me...?" she asked him in complete astonishment.

"Really beta you want to marry her...I am so happy beta... Thank you..." Tears of happiness were flowing from Aradhana's eyes. Her last wish was granted, with bonus added as Mrityunjay who she dreamt of as her son-in-law.

"Yes Aunty."

"Wait Mrityunjay ..." She tried to act normal.
"We need to talk..."
"Please come with me." Saying this, Tara moved out of the room.
Mrityunjay followed her.

Outside Aradhana's ward.

"What was that Mrityunjay??" Tara asked in complete disbelief. She was standing with her arms crossed over her chest, eyebrows raised waiting for Mrityunjay's reply.

"Tara...I know you must be angry...but after you hear the reason behind this, you will see the better part of this proposal...It's just a proposal...I am not forcing you."

"Ok say," she said causally.

"Tara you know my Dadaji is the only person in my life. And he is sick."

"What happened to Dadaji? Anything big?" she asked worriedly.

"He had a heart attack today. Doctor says he will not live for many days and as you are fulfilling your mom's wish so do I want to fulfil his wish."

Tara slowly calmed down normal after hearing Mrityunjay.

He continued, "And his last wish is ..." Her eyes were fixed on his face. He floundered then said, "He wants you be to his daughter-in-law..."

Tara was completely blank, not knowing what to say and what not to.
"He wants us to get married," he added.

She sat down on a chair, her eyes were stuck on the floor, like she was searching for an answer.

He continued, "So I kept this proposal."
"Tara I am doing this for my Dadaji, don't get me wrong..."
"Tara, you told once me ...'Sometimes we should do things that our loved ones like.' And this is his last wish. After a short pause he continued.
"Your mom too wants you to get married, and I think this is her last wish which you would like to fulfil."
She was listening to him, but there was a complete silence in her mind.
