Perfect up date.

Simply loved Arjun's apology to Sam.

Also, you left it open for Samarat to tell his family or not about his past.

Glad to that dadji and Arjun will meet. It was my fondest wish for that to happen.

Loved it!👏

Wow, seriously the way you've written Arjun and his lines...I could so picture that scene in the office when he came clean to Sam and family.

You really have a way with words and have done a superb job of keeping the essence of the show in each act and scene you've written 👏

Can't wait to read the next installment!

Aww thanks ... I am waiting for your "dheere dheere" update, lol.

Thanks Pippa!!
Once I started writing, I realized this behind the scenes story might be longer than i expected. I won't change the LOVE confession scene ... but i may add to it ... considering we only got a couple minutes ... so perhaps yeah i will try and work out what would have happened after the hug.

Act 5 - Bridging Divides

Scene 1

Neil was the first to break silence, "I don't trust him at all!"

"He was speaking the truth," replied Sam and Samrat in unison, surprising each other.

Piyali simply looked at her husband with a searching gaze, and he knew it was time for his truth, "Look, I have known about Radhika's innocence in all this for a while. Long time ago, when Nandini used to work here, some things had happened, which made her leave the company... and for me to not trust her anymore. Partly it is my fault too. I should have said something earlier, but...I don't know why I didn't."

All eyes were now on an anxious Samrat, waiting for him to piece this revenge puzzle together. "Piyali, remember, you were on a sabbatical leave since Manya wasn't keeping well... anyway, Nandini was handling a lot of your responsibilities. She and I had become very good friends during her tenure here, particularly when we were working on the Dabur contract together."

"Samrat, I don't want to dig old skeletons from the closet - it doesn't matter to me anymore..." replied Piyali imploring him to not reveal everything at this point.

He cut her off and continued, "Honestly, I didn't realize when our equation changed ... and though nothing had happened ... I knew I could never betray you Piyali, and I loved our family. I told Nandini the same, but she couldn't face reality and went down a self-destructive path. I still considered her to be a good friend so I tried to set things right in her life - but eventually I had to cut all ties considering how emotionally unstable she had become, and how it would have affected our marriage. The reason I blame myself is because I never realized the impact this matter would have had on Arjun, considering he was around the same age as Sam."

"It still doesn't give him the right to hurt another person," retorted Neil.

"I know, but, he's not at complete fault either. And on this, I shall trust Radhika's judgment! A day before their wedding party, she confided in me that Arjun was being manipulated by Nandini and wasn't fully aware of her schemes. We are all humans, Neil ... we all make mistakes."

"Pa is right ..." Sam said in a remorseful tone. Guilt overwhelmed her as she thought of all the insults she had hurled at her friend. Did she even deserve a friend like Radhika?! "I read Radhika's letter when I went to Arjun's home earlier. That stupid girl is sacrificing everything just so her obsessed, selfish friend can have a perfect life. Except it would be a perfect lie! I don't love Arjun - I mean I thought I did, but I was more in love with the idea of being in love. Everything after his marriage was only because I wanted to make Radhika suffer! Oh, how am I ever going to face her?"

Piyali had quite enough of this truth and revelation for today. And she was tired of being the mute spectator. "I have had enough of all this. Look, what's done is done. Neither of us can change the past. But, we can move forward with our life and set things right. I can't believe I am actually agreeing with Arjun, but he did have a point!"

"Aunty is right. Sam, its Chashni - how can she not forgive you?! I promise everything will be OK, just trust me," added Neil kneeling beside Sam.

Nodding her head in agreement, Sam simply clasped his hand for support. "Oh my God!", finally realization dawned on her. "He loves her! And she loves him," she said staring into Neil's eyes.

"She doesn't deserve him."

"Just as I don't deserve you..."

"Don't say that Sammy...ever. Anyway, it doesn't matter if I don't like or trust Arjun... He is Chashni's husband and none of us can change that fact... and quite frankly, she deserves to be with the person she loves. "

Sam simply smiled at that squeezing Neil's hand.

"Marriage is a bond that no outsider can break" concluded Samrat looking at his wife.

With a slight smile, Piyali got up saying, "It's getting late. Let's go home - I think there has been enough drama for today. Neil, will you be joining us for dinner?!"

"Umm... no, Maa is waiting for me. But... uhh, if it's ok with you, can we all meet for breakfast?"

Piyali and Samrat nodded yes in agreement with a knowing smile. At last, their daughter had picked the perfect man for herself.

Scene 2

(Next day)

It was a little before noon when Radhika, Mala and Ankush had left for mandir. Though home to many shrines, the Mishra trio was actually headed to the temple about 30km outside Rishikesh. Mala had noted it would be a good change for Radhika to take in the fresh air of countryside. Also, unbeknownst to her daughter, it was the perfect set up for Arjun to visit Dilip and Papa-ji at home.

The clean air of Rishikesh was almost calming for Radhika. It was a pleasant change than the confines of her home, however not enough to make her forget about Arjun-Sir. Oh how she had grabbed the pen and paper last night to write anything coherent. One would laugh knowing all she could do with that paper was fold it into a funnel cone so it looked like a peanut bag. If her writing career didn't work out, perhaps she could try her luck as a peanut vendor. The last thought actually made her smile, albeit wryly.

Here she was, at the temple, asking God above for strength to cope with the reality of her life. Radhika may have signed the divorce papers, but in her heart, she considered only Arjun-Sir as her husband. No paper could ever break a bond so pure, and it didn't matter if she had to live in solitude for the rest of her life.

That is all she asked for herself. It seemed most of her prayers were for: love and contentment in Arjun-Sir's life. Surprisingly that is what Mala was praying for too, except in her daughter's life, as the elder lady knew faith in God can make everything possible. It was high time for fate to play its part and give Radhika the true love she deserved.

---------------------------------

Scene 3

This was Arjun's first visit to her family home. While there were no extravagances in their humble living, there was a sense of comfort and familial feel, which Arjun had always longed for in his life. He noticed their family portrait laid atop the console table, similar to the one his wife had brought with her when she moved into their home.

Upon his arrival, the elder Mishra men had offered him lunch before daring to discuss anything. After all, their family motto was pehle peth pooja phir kaam dooja. The way Radhika's Papa and Dada-ji had eyed Arjun while eating, the latter knew their subsequent conversation would be an episode of good cop versus bad cop.

It had been an hour already at Radhika's home, and Arjun was relieved with the phone call asking Dilip to return to his shop. For the past 30 minutes, he was being grilled by her Papa on the sanctity of marriage. He didn't disagree with the older fellow, but it seemed he couldn't get in any word to speak. So out of respect, Arjun simply stayed quiet and agreed to all his musings.

"Don't worry about Dilip ... he just want Choti's life to be sorted."

"Me too... that's why I am here. Look Dada-ji..."

With a knowing smile, the elder gentleman raised his hand stopping Arjun mid-sentence.

"Arjun I am not interested in what happened or how it happened or why..."

"But... I want to start new, on an honest footing. This time I want to do it the right way."

"Do you like Barfi or Jalebi?!

"Sorry?"

"Beta, what do you want?" asked Dada-ji amusingly.

"I don't ..."

"We have a saying in our family..."

"To start something new, start with something sweet", completed Arjun with a smile.

"Exactly... so what do you want?"

Thinking back to his younger years, Arjun replied "I like Barfi." After a brief pause, he softly added, "And I want Radhika to be happy."

"But, why?"

"Because she deserves everything and much more this life has to offer."

"And will you be able to provide her 'everything and much more this life has to offer'?"

"I am not her worthy, Dada-ji"

"You are her husband..." he replied, observing the wedding ring Arjun was still wearing.

Arjun simply nodded at that.

"You can spare me the past details ... they don't interest me ... and forget about this 'worthiness'! If you were given one chance only, without any expectations, what would your heart choose?"

"Radhika", he responded earnestly. "She has always been my one truth in life".

Arjun walked over to where Dada-ji was sitting and knelt down taking the latter's hand in his, "Can you entrust Radhika's hand in mine? This marriage will never force her into giving up any of her dreams or aspirations. I promise to take care of her for the rest of my life."

With a mischievous smile, Dada-ji disentangled his hand from Arjun's "Beta you are holding the wrong hand." He continued, "For whatever it's worth, you have my blessings."

"Do you think she will accept me after everything?" He really needed to know that; his mind kept replaying all the awful things he had said and done, wondering if Radhika should even forgive him, let alone accept him as her husband.

"You know Choti won't agree so easily - she is very stubborn. And I worry because I know she will never betray any relation, no matter how much it hurts her. Arjun, you need to resolve the matter that is holding her back. Until then, Choti won't agree to anything."

"Does she love me?" he asked with eager eyes.

"Do you love her?"

With an honest gaze searching wise, puckish eyes, Arjun nodded in agreement.

"Then have faith... God can make everything possible."

----------------------------------------------

Scene 4

"So..."

"So?"

"You still want to get married ASAP?"

"Yeah... I mean when I thought I was in love - I was ready to be married in a week's time. And now that I am in love ... why not tomorrow."

"It's only been a few hours since our engagement. I know our families would be happy if we exchange the garlands right now... but Sammy, don't you want a big wedding anymore?!"

"When I didn't know the worth of love, celebrations and grandeur held a greater meaning than marriage itself, and now that I realize what true love is, these extravagances have no meaning at all. I just care for you, Neil... so, what do you say?"

Neil laughed at his fiance's musings, "I say, yes!"

The best friends turned lovers hugged each other; their families were already busy preparing for an impromptu wedding the following day.

"There is one thing I need to do before our wedding..."

"Chashni?"

"Yeah... I mean she sacrificed so much for me, least I could do is fulfill the other half of her promise."

Neil raised his eyebrow questioningly.

"Her letter ... to Arjun... I mean she wanted him to be happy too."

"Yaar Sammy... not again with Arjun! How about we try contacting her parents or Dada-ji in Rishikesh instead?!"

"Seriously, Idiot... that is what I am trying to say, if you only let me complete my sentence. Maybe we can try and work something out. Also, like it or not, Arjun and Radhika are married - If not for my sake, for Chashni at least, you will need to trust Arjun a bit," she repeated his own words from last night.

"I can try, but no guarantee. And how can you be so forgiving after everything?"

"That's not the point. I mean ... I was going down the same path as Nandini-di just out of spite. You were there, Neil - I tried to break up a marriage, and that too of Radhika! If Arjun can't be forgiven or trusted, then I deserve the same. Especially after all the awful things I said to Chashni! The entire office witnessed my disgusting actions," she sighed.

Neil took both her hands in his, "Sam, I promise you - we will make things right with Chashni... we will contact her family this evening... believe me, it will be ok!"

"Will she ever forgive me?"

With a playful smile, he added "Of course ... she is Chashni... Queen of Forgiveness!!"
