I was an innocent Delhi girl: Neena Gupta
How was your time at the National School of Drama?
When I joined NSD, it was going through a rough phase – E Alkazi had left due to the problems the union had created. For the first six months, NSD had no director. Things began to look positive when Karan took over. My term was not as happy and happening as I had expected it to be. Nonetheless, NSD deserves huge respect for what it taught me. Be it acting, dance, theory of drama – I got the opportunity to learn everything despite the difficulties we faced. I joined NSD because my friend Satish Kaushik was a part of it. When I saw Mr Alkazi mentor Satish, I knew only he could help me learn the nuances of acting.

Has Delhi influenced you?
I was an innocent Delhi girl, which is good for an actress, but worked against me when I shifted to Mumbai. Doing theatre in Delhi didn't guarantee success in Mumbai. My dreams were shattered when I found out that the industry worked in a different way and I didn't know the rules. I was great in Delhi, but was a nobody in Mumbai.

Would you want your daughter to settle in Delhi?
I tell her jokingly that she should get married to a Delhiite who owns a farmhouse as it is difficult to find sprawling houses in Mumbai. Everything is destined, I believe... People you meet and end up marrying. If she has to shift to Delhi I'm sure she will fall in love with it.

Your hubby's from Delhi...
Yes, I have found a loving husband and family in Delhi. I may not be visiting Delhi regularly, but it feels great to come back to my city and family. It is the sense of belonging that everyone has towards their janambhoomi. Just a few days ago I met Yash Chopraji who has built a house in Jalandhar. He would obviously not shift there, but that love for his birthplace can't fade.

What about Delhi addas?
Nathu's in Bengali Market used to be the only adda as I was always on a shoestring budget. Five years ago I went there and ordered everything – chaat, tikki, golgappa – more out of excitement. When we asked for the bill the owner refused to take money. I told him then 'Jab mere paas paise nahin the tab aap hume pay karne ko kehte the. Lekin aaj jab main pay kar sakti hoon toh aap accept nahin kar rahe.' Issi ko apnapan kehte hain.

You also staged performances with Satish Kaushik in DU?
We staged a play "Aadhe Adhure" in Kirori Mal College and received great applause from the students. Unfortunately, after the play got over, a fight broke and the girls were immediately shifted to the green room. We were shut there for almost half an hour. I still don't know what made the students fight, but thankfully we girls didn't get hurt. I also had rakhi brothers in Kirori Mal.

The change I would like to see in me

I would like to be a bit taller as tall girls can carry off everything really well as short girls who find it difficult to don certain attires. Also I would prefer my hair to be straight as it's easy to be managed

Gaurav Khanna: (Prem of Dil Se Diya Vachan)

I am planning on taking a break from work for this New Year's. Though I traditionally go somewhere out of Mumbai every year, this year I plan on spending some time in this wonderful city just to absorb the feel good energy that every Mumbaikar seems to ooze with at this time of the year. Their energy is simply infectious!

My Santa

Christmas is one occasion when even our celebrities don't mind shedding their starry image and going back in time to remember their good old days when decorating the X-mas tree and exchanging gifts was synonymous with the festival. Things haven't changed from then as even today they look forward to receiving gifts and they yet wait for the Santa to ring the bells. But this year round we give them a choice to decide who would they want their Santa to be and the gift they would like to receive from him.

Gaurav Khanna: Well anyone who knows the secret to sky rocketing TRPs is free to become my Santa Clause for the Christmas this year. I will then share the gift with all my friends and producers.

It was PICNIC time on the sets of DIL SE DIYA…VACHAN

Gaurav Khanna (Prem)and Neena Gupta (Dr. Kalyani) along with Vandana Joshi (Nandini ) from Zee TV's Dil Se Diya …Vachan were missing their Dilli ki sardi and decided to make the most of the sudden dip in temperature in amchi Mumbai. Filmcity, where the show's sets are located, is a vast expanse of small hilltops covered in a thick canopy of trees and the weather in the mornings is very chilly with a hint of floating mist which adds on to the romantic appeal of the place. In such weather, the demand for savouries and snacks also is the most discussed topic on the sets.

To make the most of this wonderful weather, one day Neena Ji decided to get a toaster from her home and Gaurav Khanna arranged for a barbecue stand. Soon the aromas of crisp toast laden with butter & jam, paneer and chicken tikka wafted in the air while masala chai brewed in the pot nearby. People on the sets had a blast with the sun on their back, hot snacks on their plate and the refreshing chill into beat the usual humid Mumbai air.

Gaurav Khanna says, " The weather in Mumbai this year is simply mindblowing. I always used to miss the biting cold, wearing colorful cardigans and mufflers, eating hot piping savouries and most importantly the weekend outdoor picnics after moving to Mumbai. It was Neena ji's idea to do this picnic….and trust me it brought back so many wonderful memories …!" A team that bonds together is a rarity nowadays truly in this cut-throat industry! Way to go Team Dil Se Diya…Vachan!

Dil Se Diya Vachan actors have a blast
Gaurav Khanna (Prem), Neena Gupta (Dr. Kalyani), along with Vandana Joshi (Nandini) from Zee TV's Dil Se Diya Vachan were missing the Delhi winter.

Although, Mumbai's winter isn't comparable to the Delhi winter, the weather was pleasant enough for the actors to demand their favourite Delhi snacks and savouries at their sets of Film City. That's not all, they got some home appliances and the actors had a mini party on the sets.

Our Indya source says, "To make most of the lovely weather, Neena ji got a toaster from home, while Gaurav Khanna arranged for a barbecue stand. Soon the sets were full of the aromas of toasted bread with melted butter, as well as paneer and chicken skewing on the barbeque filled the air. This was accompanied with masala chai brewing on the sets as well. The cast and crew had a blast on the sets with the sun on their back, hot snacks on their plate and the lovely Mumbai winter weather."

Gaurav Khanna said, "The weather in Mumbai this year has been incredible. I always used to miss the biting cold, wearing colorful cardigans and mufflers, eating hot piping savouries and most importantly the weekend outdoor picnics after moving to Mumbai. It was Neena ji's idea to do this picnic. It was such a brilliant idea and brought back such awesome memories."

Later on we spoke veteran actress Neena Gupta, who said, "We really enjoy shooting together and so to make it more fun we all decided to prepare some snacks and so we decided to have this picnic. Nowadays, the weather is lovely. Vandana and Gaurav are also a treat to work with. So the overall experience was so much fun."

A team that bonds together is a rarity nowadays truly in this cut-throat industry. So to see the bond transform onscreen, don't forget to watch Dil Se Diya Vachan every Monday to Friday at 7 pm only on Zee TV.

Hellooo IPL Season 4 !!!

Telly stars talk on the recent IPL Auctions, their favorite teams, and of course on the players they are rooting for!!

The DLF IPL Auction made headline news over the last two days on all channels and newspapers!! Some huge money of over 80 million dollars spent by the franchise owners with over 353 cricketers going thro' the hammer in just two days, there were some huge scenes that happened at the ITC Royal Gardenia Hotel, Bengaluru!!

While certain cricketers like Gautam Gambhir, Mahela Jayawardhane, Mutthiah Muralitharan, Robin Uthappa, Yousuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Rohit Sharma, Jacques Kallis etc ruled the roost by going for huge prices, there were certain others who were deprived of a seat in this season's IPL and were branded with the tag 'Unsold'...

With the IPL auctions getting to a close, we caught up with the emerging IPL fever and talked to few telly stars who are big-time cricket enthusiasts!!

Gaurav Khanna:

We have seen Gautam Gambhir being bought at a heft some of 10 crores whereas few world-class international players were bought at comparatively less rates. Why is it that Indian blood went for more prices?
They have played really well in the past few matches and they have proved themselves and as long as they play good they will be really heavily priced.

Who are the cricketers you are looking forward to in the coming season of IPL?
I am looking forward for Yousuf Pathan and all the players because they all are professionals and will do their best.

Cricketing stalwarts like Ganguly, Gayle, Jayasuriya, Lara did not get sold even at a low base price. What do you think about it?
I do not know much about it and hence would not like to comment and it is all the bosses' decision and we cannot question them in that matter.
Which is the team which has a good balance according to them?
I think Mumbai Indians because they retained Sachin.

Which is your personal favorite among the ten teams? Did your favorite change after the recent bidding and team change?
It is Mumbai Indians, because it is my team and I have been watching Sachin ever since I was a kid.

With the recent Lalit Modi controversies and the inclusion of two teams, do you think that IPL has lost its charm?
Anything that grows fast and when there is a lot of money involved, it is bound to create controversies. But when the match begins it hardly matters because people just want to enjoy it.

World cup is also down the lane; what are you looking forward to IPL or World Cup?
I am looking forward for the World Cup because it is the ultimate win and this time India does have a great chance I just hope they bring home the cup.

Well, the Cricketing Season is truly on, and it will only heaten up as the summer sets in!!
