in that book lord Rama was 1000 years earlier than Shiva...Shiva meets Parasuraam , veerbhadra weds kritika etc..
btw there is Himavan but no Parvati..Kartikeya is Shiv-Sati's son, Kali is Sati's twin sister
Harappan civilization was shown in bad light to glorify Meluha civilization
Saraswati river is in North India
not only mytho , history and geography had been twisted too

i don't have any doubt about author's creative talent..it literally takes you in different world..if he didn't use these names then the story will be just more than perfect..i loved the story but can't praise Amrish for twisting Mytho, History ,Geography to make the book sensational

because i believed the book had potential to be best seller without claiming that its story of shiva.but Mr. Tripathy didn't believe on his capacity (which he actually had) and took names from Mythos to weave own story

regarding Da-Vinci-you have no clue-there was an outrage regarding it-even in India the Church got out protests
reason being that in the book(the books brilliant-loved it-its a very intresting read) Jesus Christ has a child from one of his followers Mary Magdalene-a daughter who starts a new cult-against the Orthodox Roman Catholic faith, and has many things opposing what the Roman Catholics belive it
and unlike IOM which is a fiction story with only the names of Gods and Godesses
The Da Vinci Code is based on contraversial historical facts, and theories made by people
The Da Vinci Code is a contraversial book beacuse it questions and put forward many facts likely to irk religious groups.
IOM is a fictional story only with the names of names of Gods and Godesses and doesnt question faith or belief as such.

I read the books, AS pure fiction it is good. But if we start comparing it god s and goddess then it is all too twisted.
The writers creativity at its zenith.
Putting aside the fact that all the names are from our purnanas and they have all got mixed,
It makes a good read. I read it as a fiction not as a puranic katha.

i knw there was a hassle regarding it too, but all im trying to say is that the hassle was by a certain group of ppl who did nt take it as a fiction...n the same way with amish's book.
These books shld be read lyk fiction n shld nt be taken as something to criticize abt. N i completely agree it shld nt be compared with the purans.

I havent read the books yet, but i will surely try it whenever i can, cause i want to see how fiction differs from mytho. The title sounds facinating.. Thanks a lot for your recommendation Didlr :-)

IOM fills up the long wanting gap in Indian storytelling. History-mythological fiction. Such fictions are rampant in english literature and entertainment, and are taken purely as such.
I find IOM series brilliant. Inspired by it I read many such fictions like Kaal the time series and offcourse palace of Illusions.

Those who are fascinated by Mahabharata should most definitely read Palace of Illusions.

Shruti: IOM does take some facts from history, the cultural conflict, the growing aryan supremacy, the segmentation that was present then, offcourse meluha name for the existing civilisation which was infact meluhan civilization.
