Hope they show us parvati sitting on shiv's lap.. It shows control over once feelings and shows deep love at the same time. shiv parvati conversations are many times done in this way. He never answers directly he explains life to her and through her to the entire world.

...With a moustache, if I may add. The first time I saw a Durga Puja, I had to re adjust my perceptions.

So frnds the birth of shiv-putra kartikey is near in dkdm. So i want to ask few things to all the knowledgeble peoples here. 1) why kartikey is not seen in any pic wid mahadev-parvati and ganpati bappa. 2) i read on twitter that after killing tarkasur kartikey didn't returned to kailash. Is it true? And why? 3) i too heard that in his temple womens are restricted to enter. If its already discused then kindly close the topic and if not discused then kindly narate us the story of veer kartikey.

1) Karthikeya is very much part of the shiv parivar and was very popular God in whole of India one whole Purana "Skanda Purana" is dedicated to him however his popularity has decreased in the North after the middle ages and that of ganesha increased hence Ganesha is more popular in the north. Story of rivalry of Karthikeya and ganesha symbolically signifies this shift in the North.

2) Receding of karthikeya towards the south indicates his reduction in popularity in the north and southward increase in popularity

3) Karthikeya worship in North is in the brahmachari form, although very rare in the North karthikeya is unmarried and elder to ganesha whereas in the south he is younger and has two wives Sri Valli and Devayani. there is very old karthikeya temple in haryana( Pehowa township) where women are not allowed.

on the whole there is a large difference in how south and North view Karthikeya, for bthe Northerners he is a Brahmachari and for southerners he is married and has two wives.

Best regards
krishna

Thanks for clarifying about the brothers. I am from South and what I know is Scanda is born after Ganesha. I was wondering how come karthikeya is coming early is DKDM. So they are following the northern version.

Hi, here's what i know :)

Originally posted by: foram.

1) why kartikey is not seen in any pic wid mahadev-parvati and ganpati bappa. - Basically that's because Karthikeya is not popular in North India. And that is because, his reign or whateveryou call was in South India. He stayed there like Ganesha stayed in North! You'll find Skanda included in all paintings or photos in South :)

2) i read on twitter that after killing tarkasur kartikey didn't returned to kailash. Is it true? And why? - No. That is not true. Karthikeya does come back the story of Karthikeya leaving kailash is a different one. He leaves because he thought Ganesha cheated and got the fruit of knowledge. On that occasion, he gets angry and leaves Kailash

3) i too heard that in his temple womens are restricted to enter. - No dear, everyone is allowed there. I think you got it confused with Ayyappa :)

He is very popular among the south In dian's... He is even called the Tamil God... This is what we beleive in South India

Once Shiva opened his third eye seeing the atrocities of Tarakasura. The sparks of the fiery seed of Shiva were unbearable; even the fire God Agni could not bear them; this fire was then transported by the river Ganges into the Saravana forest into a pond called the Saravana Poigai (located at mouths of river Ganges), where the sparks became six children. They were raised by the six Kritika or Kartika - the stars that make up the Pleiades, earning the name Karthikeya. Parvati combined these six babies into one with six faces, i.e. Shanmukha or Arumugan by hugging them. Since he was born in the Saravana he was also called 'Saravanabhava'.

On the other hand he is younger to Ganesha in the south.
