Chapter 24

A white sedan stopped in Jungle; right in front of the drugs hide out.

"we are late..Boss will kill us..Let's get in fast" the woman said flicking her streaked hair back.

"Lilly my sweetie, don't forget why we came here..first, give me a hand in taking out the gift' from the back seat..will you?" The man said, lighting up his cigar with a lighter.

"oh Walter..my honey.." she pecked him on the cheek which left a red mark from her lipstick. He quickly wiped himself.

The gift' was wrapped in a glitzy wrapping paper and it was pretty heavy. "Can I have a glass of Water, please?" Lilly said to the door man, making a pout. He eyed her from head to toe and moved away without a word.

"two people are at the door boss..they said the password correctly and they arrived in a white car as you said..but Walter and Lilly have already come hours ago..what do I do boss?" he said to someone on phone.

"you idiot..they could be police! just take them in and find out who they are..if they are from police..you know what to do.."

"Yes boss.." he disconnected the call.

"Uday..do you love me?..no wait don't answer that..you don't..then who gave you the right to question me? you just called me a cheat..what are you? Ever since I know you, you have been cheating others..how dare you question my character..just to save your false ego, you branded me something bad! Yes..i love Kabir..but not in the way your distorted mind thinks..why am i explaining you all this? I tried to be nice to you, thinking we could atleast have friendship between us, if nothing else..just let me reach home..i will go as far as possible from you..not because im scared of you..because I lo-" her monologue was interrupted by the sound of loud knocking on the door.

"Walter and Lilly..can you please open the door? We gotta show you somethin.." a womanly voice said.

Uday stared at the door for a second, then looked back at Manyata and opened the door. The woman barged in and grabbed their hands. "come with me..i'll show you something interesting.." she squealed.

In that tiny room, two people were tied to chairs and the man's eyes were blackened. The woman's face bore slap marks. They both were gagged to prevent them from speaking. Probably they were tortured severely.

"This is the real Lilly and Walter" the Door man said pointing towards Manveer. "now that you've seen them, there is no point hiding..tell me your real names OR ELSE!" he threatened.

"whats going on Uday..Real Lilly and Walter?..what are they thinking? Where in the world are we?" Manyata said through her teeth so that it could only be heard by Uday.

"how do I know? This was all started by you..so you should know whats happening.." Uday said in same manner. He was eyeing another bottle of whiskey that was on table.

The cloth gag slipped from the woman's mouth and she cried out. "we are REAL Lilly and Walter..they are imposters..why don't you believe us? Wait, we have proof!"

Uday downed the entire bottle in one swig. "Uday, we are stuck big time..please do something..QUICK..Otherwise, it'll be our turn next, to be tied to that chair" Manyata whispered.

The alcohol had an effect immediately. "What proof do you have? Show me.." he raised a finger. Manyata slapped a hand to her forehead. This man was had lost his mind.

"The package that we brought with us, that's the proof..you both have no idea whats inside it..let it be opened once and then you will see who's real and who's not" Lilly said with fire in her eyes.

"err..Walter, why don't we go and fetch the package?..come lets go" Manyata said with a nervous smile. Uday didn't budge. "come on, be fast" she dragged him and he followed. Once they were out of the door, Manyata acted as quick as lightening. She shut the double doors of the room and bolted it from outside, before anyone could realize what was happening.

"hey, why are you closing the doors?" Uday asked innocently. "I'll tell you later..now follow me..lets RUN!" she broke into a sprint and he followed as fast as he could. She could hear people calling them from behind, yelling at them to stop; thankfully they found a window in the hall way which was large enough for a person to sneak through.

Once they were out in open, Manyata's first thought was to take the car and run for life; but she decided against it. Uday was too shaky even to stand properly, let alone drive. They began to run again and stopped when they were short of breath.

"we ran very well..claps for us" Uday clapped for both of them. She rolled her eyes. They must have mixed some illegal drug in his whiskey. He plopped down on a nearby rock and Manyata was two steps away from a massive cry. They had just escaped from -once-in-a-life-time- adventure with the skin of their teeth! they had no car..and they were in midst of a forest to boot! Thankfully a wood cutter happened to passby and he accompanied them to a street side shop which had a telephone.

Manyata called the first person she could think of. One and half hour later, Kabir and Tanya arrived in Tanya's car. Uday insisted that he wouldn't climb in unless they let him drive. Somehow he was bundled into the back seat and Manyata sat beside him. He placed his head on her shoulder and fell asleep. She couldn't stop herself from feeling tender about it. She narrated everything to Kabir and he listened with apt attention.

Kabir stopped the car at the back gate of his own house and Manyata was surprised. "you both can spend the night at my house till he sobers down tomorrow morning..i don't want you to be subject of questioning glances.." Kabir said. She gave him a greatful look. She could have spent the night at her parents house which was only next door but she didn't want to put them under inconvenience; beside they need not see all this and get worried unnecessarily.

Next morning Udayveer woke up with a hazy mind and in an unfamiliar bed. Last day flooded into his memories. He vaguely remembered running away through a window..Then travelling in a car..Then nothing..

"Good morning.. finally you are awake.. if you are searching for your wife, then let me tell you, she and Kabir have left for exam hall half an hour ago..oh by the way Im Tanya.." Tanya said from the door.

Exams! Oh yes..they had forgotten all about it during their bizzarro trip yesterday.

6 days passed like 6 minutes and Uday got a lot of time to think and reflect about his behavior in the drug den's store room. He had been too harsh to her. He ought to say sorry. It was Manyata's last exam and Uday reached the college with a plan to surprise her.

Manyata was very relieved while handing the answer papers back to the examiner. She had done it! She had given the best she could. In her excitement she did not see what awaited her outside the class. When she turned in the corridor towards the stairs, a gun was pointed to her head and a hand was pressed to her mouth.

(P.S: im not feeling well and hence couldn't check the update for grammar mistakes or typos..😳please point out if there are any..)
