Chapter 5
He was about to put it on her finger when she pulled it back.
"Not so fast we should at least tell our families that we are planning on getting married. "
"Right. We should go tell them." He seemed upset.
"If it were up to you we probably wouldbe married by now." She smiled at him.
"If you want I could organise that for now, princess." He smiled back.
"Come on lets go tell our families, Uday-ji." She tired to keep a straight face whilst saying it.
"Seriously, don't tell me your going to call me that fromnow on. I prefer you calling me halkat veda."
"Uday I just wanted to see your reaction. Thats why I said it. And to me you will always be my halkat veda."
And with that they made their way to the car. In the car, Uday was on his phone making sure his family would be making their way to devgarh palace immediately and manyata was making sure that her family were all at home ready for her to tell them something important.
"Done." Manyata said. "Now we just need to tell them.Oh teri, are you going tell them.You have to tell them because I have no idea what to say. OMG. I never even thought about what we're going to say..."
"Princess, calm down. I'm here. I'll tell them. Don't worry. "
He smirked. Manyata saw this.
"Udayveer Singh don't even think about embarrassing me. Do you hear me. Or you could just forget I ever accepted your proposal."
"Princess, i promise not to do anything that will make your mad. Happy now."
"Very."
They were now parked outside the place. They got out of the car and walked in together. Their families sat in the living room looking tensed and worried.
"It looks like somebody told them that we had an accident. Cue the tears." Manyata whispered.
Uday smiled. She always seemed to say something that never ceased to surprise him.
As they entered the room everyone stood up upon seeing them.
"Manyata what's happened? Why did you ask me to make sure everyone was the parlour until you came?" asked DS.
"Yes, uday beta, you too rang me telling me, your mother and sister to arrive here and wait with everyone else"
"Dad, DS please calm. And everyone please sit down."
They sat down looking less tensed than they were before.
"I'm just going to come out and say it. I proposed to manyata and she accepted."
Suddenly the pair were swarmed by their family member who hugged.
"We are blessed to have a daughter-in-law who we have always been our daughter." Maharani anjali said.
"Yes beta, we truly are." said Maharaj giriraj.
"Thanks uncle G and aunty anjali."
They both looked at manyata and frowned.
"What did I do wrong?" She asked.
"Beta, you are our daughter please don't ever call us aunty and uncle. Call us mum and dad."
"Ok mum. Dad."
"And uday we are blessed to have a son-in-law who we have always been our son." komal said whilst brijraj squeezed his shoulder in agreement.
"Thank you mum and dad.Vaisay manyata. I must say I think your parents are going to love me more than you. "
Manyata looked upset.
"Uday, don't upset manyata." Anjali ordered.
"Dada, my future bhabi hasn't even entered our home and our mother is already taking her side. Unatti teased her brother."
Everyone laughed at unatti's remark.
"I'm so glad your going to be my future bhabi." Unatti said hugging her best friend.
"Your future bhabi. Meaning she isn't yet your bhabi and anyway she will alway be my sister first." Said jay hugging her sister. "Jiji, where your ring?" She said looking at her sister's hand.
Manyata was about to answer when uday replied,
"Well you see jay, your sister didn't think our families would accept this marriage so refused to put on the ring until we told all of you about it and had your blessing even though we've already had our roka."
The family laughed whilst manyata glared at uday. He knew she wasn't to forgive him for this easily, so he made a mental note to surprise her soon.
A few minutes later, the adult went into the office to discuss about the wedding whilst kids remained on the parlour.
"So my hone-valay jijou and meri pyaari jiji how did this happen?"
"Well it all happened when i saw uday kissing a girl in the elevator-"
"Jiji. What are you saying. I can't beleive your getting married to Uday when he was kissing another girl. Uday, how could you-"
"Jay calm down. Listen to everything and then say something."
They were all amazed by what happened just this morning.
Vijay was the first to speak.
"That wasn't very romantic uday, I tell you. Where were the candlelit dinner, roses, violinist playing in the background. You proposed to MY bhai today in that manner and didn't consider those important details. That's the worst proposal I have ever heard of and that includes the movie starring Sandra bullock called the proposal."
"Actually vijay munna, I proposed to manyata on the evening on the party we organised for her before I went to London."
Manyata gave him an icy glare. If looks could kill, he would be dead by now.
"WHAT??!!!"
"WHAT??!!!"
"WHAT??!!!"
Three voices shouted making the adults come out of the study.
"What happened? Why are you shouting?" DS questioned them
Jay, unatti and vijay just stared at manyata and uday in silence. Manyata was turning redder than a tomato. And uday was staring at the the back of the room not knowing what to do with himself.
"I have asked a question. And demand an answer right now" DS said.
Silence continued too echo in the room.
"What has happened to these kids?" Brijraj asked komal, anjali, giriraj, menaka, doctor saab and DS.
Vijay snapped out of the trance.
"Ye tum kya kaha uday. Somebody hold me I think I'm going to faint. Seemaji! Seemaji! Please fetch me a glass of water! Seemaji, now would be nice!"
The servant came as fast as her legs could carry her with a glass of water. Vijay got the glass and drunk it within seconds. He begun to choke and the adults went to him and menaka tapped his back to stop him choking.
"Vijay, you should have drunk that water slowly so you wouldnt choke on it. " Menaka explained to her son.
"What uday justsaid stopped me from breathing. I don' think choking on water could possibly have the same effect, I tell you."
"Beta uday ne kya kaha?" Brijraj was now getting impatient and angry.
Seeing brijraj getting angry he said,
"Brij mama, dont get angry. I don't think you should waste those beautiful bullet from your rifle on me."
"Tum yaha hi karay raho." Brijraj ordered him,leaving the room.
He came back with his rifle in his arm.
"Ab may bhi dekhna chahta hoo key aap kasay hamsay se bachay ga aaj. And ma saheb please don't stop me. "
Jay and unatti came out of the trance. Everyone sat down to see the unusual antics between the uncle and nephew which rarely happened. They all knew there were no bullets in this rifle except vijay; which was what made it even more fun to watch.
Vijay started running around the room worming his way around the tables, sofas and antiquesfollowed by brijraj behind with the rifle in his hand.
"Brij mama please hamay halal mat karna jaisay manyata bhai hamaray saath pichli bar kiya tha. Ham khoon dekh kar beyosh hojate hai to agar humara bera ya humay chowt lagi phir to ham mar jaigay. Aur humay abhi marna nahi. hamari zindagi abhi bhi bohot baki hai. Humay grand canyon aur sydney opera house dekhna hai aur uske baad aap hamara murder kar sakte hai. Brij mama please dont kill. I don't want to die yet. What kind of uncle are you chasing you only, innocent, fun, loving and handsome, dashing nephew with a rifle. What country was this ruled as suitable male bonding? You are acting like a neanderthal. At least they used clubs to beat other but you, you went straight for the rifle."
He saw even more anger come across brijraj's face.
"I'm sorry brij mama humay saza diji-ay lekin humay saza-e-mawt mat sunana, please. Humay maaf karna. Don't think about me. Think about my mother, NS, komal mami. I'll miss jay bhai and my manyata bhai I won't be able to live without her taunts even if I'm in heaven."
Brijraj went and sat down next to giriraj. Whilst vijay continued thinking his uncle was behind him, running and shouting.
Brijraj stuck his leg and vijay fell.
"Oh why did you do that now brij mama is going to be able to reach me and his rifle..…. . He's going to use it too kill me." He looked upto see his uncle sat on the sofa smiling.
"Kya?" said brijraj smiling.
Vijay had everyone waslaughing holding their chests in pain. They had all been laughing at the beginning of his antic.
Once everyone was able to breathe unatti and jay told everyone about how uday had proposed to manyata before he went to London and how she has not told either them.
"Seriously, was that the only reason you made all of this fuss?" brijraj asked confused.
"Dad, what are you saying she didn't tell me or unatti and we're the closest to her in this family. We're her best friends. How could she do this to us?" Jay asked hurt.
"Jay, unatti I promise never to hide anything from you again. Come on guys I know you are mad at me but you know I keep my promises. Ok you can punish me later. "
With that jay and unatti looked at each and smiled then just nodded at manyata.
What have I gotten myself into Manyata thought.
"But what I don't understand is why vijay was behaving worse than the girls." brijraj wondered out loud.
"No I wasn't."
"Yes you were."
"No I wasn't"
"Yes you were"
"Both of you be quiet now. Brijraj your worse than all these children put together sometimes." DS announced officially.
Before anybody could say anything about brijraj uday asked DS a question.
"DS could I take manyata out tonight please. I promise I will have her back at 10."
"Of course uday beta."
Manyata was giving him another one of her icy glares. She wasn't going to forgive him easily. And trying to make her forgive him ontheir first date would be hard.
