This topic was inspired from the 'Should government ban internet sites'. It just got me thinking.

The internet has a wealth of information. It facilitates cultural and intellectual exchange and enriches our lives. At the same time it has plenty of content that can be sexual, violent or offensive in nature.

1) Does the internet have content that is harmful to society or is this subjective preference?

2) Is there a need to censor/control such content and why?

3) If it should be censored who should do it, when, how and why - parents, schools, businesses, government? Or is censorship and control more of personal responsibility.

4) Should government be involved in anyway when it comes to controlling and censoring content on the internet how and why?

Well see I totally agree to the topic and the views presented yet and so I got to just add that Internet like Science is a boon and yet has proven disaster.

Its Science that gave us to communicate even if we are at far ends of the world and science too gave people of Japan generations of physically challenged people.

Similarly..internet enables me to know much..enhance knowledge but yes there are stuff that I should be secure about.
Now its impossible or next to that to censor all stuff and check everything being uploaded on the net but yes you can always keep away from that.
It depends on the kind of mentality you have the way you direct it to!

Nice topic RTH as always👏👏👏

Blocked things are of more interest to the folks....why draw their attention by blocking them....

say for instance...i make it a point to read the banned books and banned films...did'nt miss reading Lajja...watching WATER...😆

lol. nice line. almost makes it sound like one is doing something important😆

At the same time it has plenty of content that can be sexual, violent or offensive in nature.

how's some of this bad? that's like 90% of the reason most of the world gets on the net from what one hears😆

mostly parents and businesses, the only two people/ entities that have their dog in the game.😊

4) Should government be involved in anyway when it comes to controlling and censoring content on the internet how and why?

only when it comes to areas of national defense interests. not for so-called cultural reasons. 😊

No, absolutely not.

Governments can go get lost! - havent they got more important things to do for goodness sake?????😕

I understand the dilemma, closing websited fro example that incite racism, terrorism etc are all antisocial, but to ban them drives them underground and that makes them twice as dangerous...and attractive.

I cant stand Big Brother attitudes from governments so the answer from me is a fat resounding NO!

😡 M 😡
