Recently Toronto schools system approved establishment of black focused school. This decision was made due to high failure/ drop out rate among black students. according to people who are in favour of such decision, white teachers couldn't understand black kids and jut give up on them.

However to many this is nothing but segregation .

What do you think , are such separate schools based on race , culture , religion or language better and help full or they are nothing but to segregate people and develop intolerance among different groups of society

Shear case of biasing based on race/caste... and whoever encourages it..is blah!! people don't see educated dark colored individuals and thier value, similarly drop out percentages among fair colors. Most bizzare step... wonder how many african americans will want to enroll thier kids in all black schools.

Is it something actually going to be implemented? Or just a speech because February is Black History Month?

Now if it is for real then Blacks are going to relive segregation. As it is they have tons of problems and now this will add to their woes.

But there is a possibility that many might like the idea too. Aren't there takers for All boys, All girls, Catholic, Islamic etc. schools? So we never know.

The act is completely counter productive and regressive. I do not think it is a way for white people to segregate out black people. Over the past several years black people have been pushing for special recognition in all fields. Black students separate themselves from the rest of the student community. Black students often cite that the community does not respect them or understand their culture. There have been several attempts to introduce Ebonics in the curriculum. Instead of introspecting within their own community to understand why there is such high drop out and failure rate, they prefer to blame society and the inability to understand, respect and appreciate them. There are a lot of underprivileged communities in USA, but the black community has been vocal about blaming social and class structure for their failure. I am not at all shocked that segregation comes to play once again.

I firmly believe segregation on any grounds for any reason in any form is highly detrimental to society. Most importantly we need to begin with students to instill cooperation and harmony. However, the way society chooses to segregate itself it seems to be an idealistic view.

That's way too irreverent, but funny nevertheless 😆😆

@ post - I don't understand this whole concept of teachers not understanding students because they are a different colour/race. If that's the norm, then here in the Gulf, most educational establishments would be teacher-less!
