however, that also reflects how looks carry a certain importance in human society..

On a more serious note, sometimes people live vicariously thru their avatars.. they even lie about their age, profession etc.. It is a sad attempt to live another life / illusion of it, a life of their dreams.. It makes me sad for them..
using ash avi and bashing ash is just plain mean me finks 😡 .. why on earth would someone do that?? 😕😆

Real beauty is indeed inside, but in the shallow world we live, nobody wants to reach out to sense it.. We wouldn't be melting Glaciers to drive jags and light up man-made Vegas else!

I used Rajeev khandelwal as my first avatar.I joined IF because of the Show LRL in sab tv, which I saw by chance during world cup(Cricket) and get interested in the theme and the charector personified by Rajeev( Capt.Rajveer). I liked the ideology of the charector and the person enacted the charector(through thr media), not the looks.Later I decided to change the avatar and then think avatar is not necessary.

QT , didn't even know you had replaced mermaid with Ash in your Avi 😊. My comments were not directed to anyone in particular but was merely responding to the scenario Qwerts had presented regarding visualizing someone keeping in mind the topic of discussion being looks. For me Avi serves as personal identification or messege of some sort and when it is a picture of the most beautiful and photographed celebrity it translates unanimously into physical beauty which is not the case when we see animated or cartoon characters or something abstract in avis which is open to individual interpretations.

I don't have any issues with people using celebraties in avatar as such and in answering to Qwerts post I made an honest statement about perception and reality of first impression if VL and RL were to merge.

Btw I agree about the shallow world comment with respect to looks - how many will consider using Nana Patekar, Om Puri or Seema Biswas in their avi?

I think at a first glance we like what appeals best to us i.e. looks. This seems to be very prominent in our society. However, a person's inner beauty is very important and how one projects oneself. Beauty on its own is hollow.
