Do you believe our society is oriented mainly on the basis of looks? Preference is given to good-looking people over others? Why do you think we are very much look oriented?

I am sorry if this has been posted before. I did a search on this topic, but I couldn't find anything, hence I am posting it...

Well to go by looks is in our basic instict 😉

which may not necessarily be the standards people consciously have in their mind 😊

yeahh I completely agree with the two comments above

It is really difficult to prevent yourself from judging people based on their looks when you first see them! I always make certain remarks to myself when I see a person, but then at the same time I have this feeling go through him that what I am doing is wrong and what if this person is in fact good... and imagine how they might percieve me...

There's a reason why they say first impressions are important.. well a lot is based on looks and the way you present yourself in public...

However, the idea of judging ppl by their looks can only be justified to a certain extent...

If you are unwilling to get to know someone because they might be "ugly" or "not-decent".. that in my opinion is not justified.. because they may jsut have a heart of gold..

so i think that for first impressions look is plays a significant role...However, it shouldn't later on... because in the end.. a person should be judged based on their personality...beliefs..ideals..morals...etc.

^Yup, looks do matter a lot in our society. I really liked the bus example, and I could completely relate to it.

Sometimes I wonder to myself the way girls go to the extent of perfecting their outside look, but from the inside it's a totally different picture.

Yeah, I have no right to state that, but frankly perfecting your exterior look won't change your innear beauty will it? Yet, girls go to so much of extent to perfect their exterior look. Why not give that much importance to the inner side as well?

Another question to raise is the whole being skinny thing categorized as pretty. It's completely wrong, yet so many people go with it. Girls starve themselves for days in a row just to stay skinny & look "pretty".

Besides the most common tendency most girls in school resort to is pressurizing girls, who aren't into perfecting their look to change their look. They will go about saying "oh you should put this - seriously you will look so pretty" or something like "That girl is so not fashionable. Just look at her outfit. She is wearing a baggy pant for god's sake!".

The former works wonders, since most people immediately accept it. I have seen simple girls transform within seconds and turn extremely beauty consious and totally miss out on their studies.

At IF itself you will catch countless polls asking the prettiest actress on television. The main question to raise is is all this really necessary? Should we all really give so much importance to the exterior look of a person? Be this much beauty consious? Especially teenagers do you think it's right for them to be this beauty consious & to worry about fashion at such a young age?

Looks are important to a certain extent. I do not consider myself a shallow person. However, I cannot deny perception and instincts. Sometimes unwittingly I may tend to ignore people regarding due to the way they look.

Looks are not just about facial features and appearance. I think attitude and personality are a great contributing factor. Someone who feels good about themselves, eventually looks good despite their shortcomings. Someone who feels low about themselves looks bad despite being real beauties. Then there is the way a person carries themselves. Politeness, a grace in manners, the way they speak can make a person look better or worse.

So in society looks are important. Not in bodily appearance but in a whole package of how you present mind and body.

Looks matter a lot( in the inital stage or for the first impression)😊..this is the reality
Looks donot matter (in the long run) 😊..this is also reality...

Why do we give preference to good looking people to others????
Depends on the post we are looking for...say we donot mind how our Boring Compulsory Subject Lecturer looks like...say we donot mind how our company CEO looks like...(exceptions like Armaan Suri of JJKN are there😉).....but it does mind how the front office executive of a Company looks..it does matter..however...good looks do matter...but good looking people without any brains...👎🏼
Some things are not chosen on the basis of looks..like choosing friends..choosing the person we want to marry (really😆😆😆)!!!
Cheers,
Mythili

it depend to person to person

on personal level, looks matter nope not to me

i find thoughts make a person beautiful

i feel more attracted towards a person

who has beautiful thoughts

i enjoy the company of people who

hold good thoughts n can disscuss any topic under bush

looks comes n go inner beauty matters

we all want someone who is there for us

in middle night telling us that everything will

be just fine not someone who attracts attention of

other n side line you 😃

good looks are always important. Even when people change in their nature or character and behavoir... their looks still brighten up the day... so I think good looks are veri important......

Now a loving and caring nature.. can supplement or supercede good looks at times... but thata more a matter of chance.. people are too selfish these days for this supercession to happen... 😊

For me good looks are mainly with intense eyes and captivating smile...For me they sometimes convey a lot and thats good enough..sometimes instant killers....😊.. This criteria is only for girls... not for males or kids...

The inner beauty crap is long since dead... All i see around as I read the eyes, is selfish even trade of emotions....
