exactly my point. So, partition ended up harming us more than it benefitted us...right!!!

It didn't harm us because people's mentality is the same. Religion hardly matters. Partition didn't make any difference.

If we did not have partition, we would have far more internal strife than what we see now, so no we would not have progressed more

but we would have full control over the mushrooming of so called "terrorist training camps", over the foreign policy, over the domestic policy of radical Islam in the region that is Pakistan right now. This would have saved us billions in our defence budget.....what say???

If it was a fully effective partition, India would not have progressed as much, Muslims in current India have contributed heavily to the current economy(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muslims_of_independent_ India), contributions that would be hard/impossible to replace

Most of the people who live in India currently live over there by choice, barring a very fraction of a %ge who have been disillusioned by ones who left during partition that pasture if "greener" on the other side, perhaps we should leave the door of immigration open to them too😉

A lot of these people shelter terrorists across the border b/c they connect with them thru Islam lot more than what they connect with us thru nationalism. If there was no Pakistan, there won't be any foreign aid coming to this faction....hence they could have been a little easily controlled.......food for thought here!!!

I fully support the partition. However, the British cunningly left it incomplete to cause rifts between the two nations. Had Kashmir been properly divided, there would not have been such problems. The muslims needed their own country and they got what they deserved. Pakistan was much needed and I am proud of my ancestors who fought for their rights. Just because India and Pakistan are two separate countries does not mean there should be a rift between us. Even as separate countries we should work closely and support each other. India-Pakistan permanent friendship would be amazing.

i think 20 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago, a lot of indians would have thought that partition was a bad thing. most pakistanis would have believed the opposite. tables have turned now.

it did cost both countries huge amounts in arming themselves, money that could have been spent on other priority items. that was a huge waste for sure. but now, years after the fact, indians can be happy that they will not continue getting dragged down to least common denominator levels between the two countries. given that india is prospering more, is thriving, is enjoying the fruits of a multicultural vibrant open society, who needs all those old stories of harmony? the past in any case always looks peaceful and glorious, but how much of the harmony was for real?
