My not posting phase lasted really long 😆 I consciously stayed away after becoming a Mod. Also, there was nothing much to discuss for me. But I am back now.😆

Thanks Devashree for creating this thread and allowing us to reminisce about our nostalgic times spent here on the forum. It's always great to look back on the memories and reflect on how much we've grown and evolved as a community.

I also want to thank all the members who have been part of this community for such a long time. Your contributions, insights, and experiences have made this forum a special place for so many of us.

While we have a glorious past, we are also looking forward to creating new memories and continuing to build upon the foundation that has been established. This forum has been a source of support, knowledge, and friendship for so many of us, and I'm excited to see what the future holds.

I have realised, how important Forum Avatars and Siggies are to many of our members while going through the posts. I am happy to announce that we will be looking into ways to revive this aspect of the forum. We understand how much it means to all of you and we want to make sure that this platform remains a special place for everyone.

We will keep you updated on any developments in this regard and we appreciate your patience as we work towards this goal.

Thank you again, Devashree, and to all the members of this wonderful community.

Cheers,

Vijay

I landed up on this site while looking up for a show's story in 2010. Liked many factors here.

Old IF was like school days. Where every one, everything was special. Specially our teachers & friends. Teachers were our first Gurus, who nurtured, at times gave chance to develop our talents. Same is with previous site. We all were quite serious while discussing. Chatted our hearts out with our online community. Most of us learnt a lot. Friends of that time were special. I met some in real life too. It was a wonderful experience.

New IF is like suddenly going to college. Get familiar with new tools. Start using them. Presentation has its own charm. We got used to of new system. It was part of growing up.

In future some new version may come up. Like online 3D store, we may have 3D IF site.

But above all friends will remain the same.

Thanks devashree for this amazing topic.

Thanks Vijay for this wonderful site. Hope this community expands well.

My $0.02 on two major factors in this site's evolution.

It had its peak period between 2005-2015. This was a period when Twitter was in its infancy and Whatsapp/Instagram hadn't arrived yet, which made forums like IF the obvious go-to place for any discussion on an internet that most Indians were just discovering.

This was also a period when the likes of Hotstar/ Sonyliv/Zee5 hadn't arrived on the scene, which meant most folks had to compulsorily tune in at the time of their respective serials to watch it.

The lack of HS/SL meant you had to rely on third party streamers to put up uploads on the likes of YouTube and DailyMotion if you couldn't watch it on the telly. The copyright laws in India were very lax at this period of time- they weren't as zealous in enforcing it as they are now, and this also encouraged a breed of VM makers, photo gallery and ML/FL scenes compilers. IF often became a creative hub where folks would drop links for their uploads. This in turn encouraged discovery of the show for new users, more discussion/interaction about it for the already existing ones (WU's/analysis), and facilitated growth at unprecedented rates.

Coming back to copyright laws, post 2015, the companies started to crack down on anything even mildly looking illegal (even 20 second vids), and you could submit a DMCA to Google that would result in sites having pages removed from G. This resulted in IF's slant towards discouraging upload links and moving more towards a more "copyright-free" atmosphere. This also resulted in a good chunk of casual users moving out (also note that search engine searches for these pirated terms would no longer bring new users to IF, and "new blood" is very important for growth.)

Unfortunately, IF also has a very vigorous moderation policy that tends to treat users like school children (for example on a episode discussion thread, if the topic even slightly veers towards TRP's, another couple or another show, they crack down on it). There may be reasons for doing it, but most sensible folks who have grown up will not like being treated like kids. Most of the people who discovered IF between 2005 and 2015 have grown up now, and their attachment to the place slowly fades away with time. My best time on IF has always been on unmoderated forums- the discussion flows naturally there.

  • Were you part old IF, like pre 2015? If yes, do you miss it?

  • Do you think the quality of ITV shows has affected the discussion on IF?

more than quality i think the taste of watching show by the viewers changed and it has affected the discussions on IF.

  • Have you made life long friends on IF?

Yes, most of my friends in IF are my long friends.

  • How did IF help you in unleashing your creativity?

itv was shit then, itv was shit now. the people have changed. IF couldnt keep up with other sites where moderation is zero and technology was advanced.

Thanks devashree for this topic… oh how I miss 2011 IF

  • Were you part old IF, like pre 2015? If yes, do you miss it?

yes I joined IF in 2011 and I miss that terribly… I happen to join the most popular forum of that time… Iss pyaar ko… that craze was just crazy. There were so many threads, so many things to discuss… fights… friendship and what not… I am every indebted to IF for giving me a platform to post my stories and becoming the person I am today. Hadn’t it been IF maybe I would not have started writing at the first place.

  • Do you think the quality of ITV shows has affected the discussion on IF?

I was never into soap opera’s except t Ipk. I feel more than ITV shows it’s the people who have changed. Also I do agree with many that moderation was too strict at one point of time restricting discussion. I have heard many left due to that.

  • Have you made life long friends on IF?

yes… omg… I have made friends for life… starting from sumu, Nabila, Zoah, Manisha, Leena, Nidhi, parm, ankita I just love them and some of them are my best friend.

  • How did IF help you in unleashing your creativity?

aa I said, I wouldn’t have written stories had it not been IF. Also met with immensely talents bunch of people who has inspired me to take up writing as well as graphics…

last but not the least thanks vijay for giving me this opportunity and a great platform which definitely changed my life to some extent. Really looking forward for all the new developments… it’s like a second home to me and will always be no matter what.

  • Were you part old IF, like pre 2015? If yes, do you miss it?

Yes. I joined in year 2010 to follow DMG and MJHT.

  • Do you think the quality of ITV shows has affected the discussion on IF?

Yes. Now a days, there are hardly any discussion in ITV serial forum and people have got bored of the old wine in new bottle thing wrt Indian serials

  • Have you made life long friends on IF?

As such, I’m an introvert and I made some friends back in the day but they’re no longer there in IF

  • How did IF help you in unleashing your creativity?

I started off as a casual surfer. Became a Coolbie for 1 serial but I decided not to do it further as it was taxing.

Thank you Vijay Sir for IF 🤗

P.S I loved the Gif / Avatar thing back in the day for our Display Picture. ❤️ Can it be brought back please? 😳
